Models and Configurations

Ram’s 2026 lineup includes Tradesman, Express, Black Express, Big Horn, Warlock, Sport, Rebel, Backcountry, Laramie, Limited, Longhorn, Tungsten and RHO, plus a separately listed Black Express Dealer Special. These names cover different packages and equipment levels. Black Express is not the same as a Laramie Night Edition, and the Dealer Special should not be assumed to offer every option in the regular Black Express configurator.

Black Express is offered as a Quad Cab 4×4 with a 6-foot-4-inch box or a Crew Cab 4×4 with a 5-foot-7-inch box. Crew Cab provides more rear-seat space, while Quad Cab pairs its shorter passenger compartment with a longer cargo box. Ram’s Black Express package description lists Mopar black tubular side steps for Crew Cab; its model comparison explicitly excludes those steps from Quad Cab.

Engine Specifications

The standard engine is the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with eTorque, rated at 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. It uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. eTorque is a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, not a plug-in powertrain or a promise of electric-only operation. The selected Quad Cab build uses the V6, four-wheel drive and a standard 3.21 rear axle ratio; a 3.55 ratio appears as an available option.

Ram also advertises the available 3.0-litre standard-output Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six for Black Express configurations, producing 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft. Availability depends on the cab and order combination. The 540-horsepower high-output Hurricane belongs to other grades and should not be assigned to Black Express from a general Ram engine banner. Likewise, the return of the HEMI to the wider 2026 lineup does not establish it as an available engine in every Black Express build.

Towing and Payload

For the base Quad Cab V6 configuration, Ram’s Canadian model comparison lists towing capacity of 2,935 kg, approximately 6,470 lb, and payload of 803 kg, approximately 1,770 lb. Its gross vehicle weight rating is 3,084 kg, or 6,800 lb. These figures describe the listed base configuration, rather than every Black Express engine, axle ratio or cab combination.

An integrated trailer brake controller is optional in the selected regular Black Express builder, listed at C$495. Trailer Tow Group II and Trailer Tow Group packages are also offered. A different Hurricane configuration can have a different trailer rating; the entire Ram range’s advertised maximum is not the rating of this base V6 truck. Check the actual towing specification and payload label after accounting for passengers, cargo, accessories and trailer tongue weight.

Fuel Economy

Ram’s Canadian specification table lists the base V6 configuration at 12.1 L/100 km city, 9.7 highway and 11.0 combined, using regular gasoline. These are manufacturer-published figures. The 2026 Natural Resources Canada guide consulted did not provide a corresponding 3.6-litre Ram 1500 entry, so an older model year’s V6 result has not been relabelled as a 2026 rating.

For the standard-output 3.0-litre Hurricane Ram 1500 4×4, NRCan lists 13.2 L/100 km city, 9.9 highway and 11.7 combined on regular gasoline. That entry is a powertrain reference, not a measured result for the vehicle in the video. The high-output engine’s premium-fuel figures do not apply to this standard-output configuration.

Exterior, Interior and Seating

The Black Express package includes a steel sport hood, black 20-inch wheels, black grille treatment, body-colour bumpers and LED fog lamps. The selected Quad Cab build lists 275/55R20 all-season tires. The name refers to the appearance treatment rather than requiring black paint; several body colours are available.

The upgraded interior has black cloth high-back front bucket seats, a full-length floor console and a seven-inch gauge-cluster display. With two front bucket seats and a three-person rear bench, seating capacity is five. Ram’s Canadian specification table confirms five seats for Black Express; the six-seat capacity of a bench-equipped Tradesman or Warlock should not be copied into this package.

The cabin has manual front-seat adjustment and air conditioning rather than the heated, ventilated and massaging leather seating promoted on higher grades. The rear seat folds to create interior storage space. Crew Cab also adds Ram’s second-row in-floor storage. Choose the cab for passenger and storage requirements as well as box length, since those two dimensions change together.

Infotainment

The selected Canadian Black Express build includes Uconnect 5 with an 8.4-inch touchscreen. Phone integration, Bluetooth and USB connectivity support media and communication, with a six-speaker audio system listed in the model comparison. The seven-inch instrument display is separate from the central touchscreen. Package documentation also lists SiriusXM with a trial period; confirm the delivered truck’s included service terms.

The large 12-inch and 14.4-inch screens, front-passenger display and premium audio systems advertised elsewhere in the Ram lineup should not be listed as standard Black Express equipment. Its interior package emphasizes the bucket seats, console and gauge display, rather than duplicating a luxury-grade cabin.

Safety Features

The Canadian model comparison lists adaptive distance control with traffic stop-and-go, Active Lane Management, Forward Collision Warning-Plus with collision mitigation and blind-spot warning. Tradesman-based equipment includes rear cross-path detection and trailer detection. Front and rear ParkSense sensors, LED headlights, tire-pressure monitoring and electronic stability control are also listed for Black Express.

Protection includes front airbags, front-seat side airbags and curtain airbags for both rows, plus rear child safety locks. The availability of these functions does not establish a crash-test rating. Ram’s hands-free assistance and surround-camera features offered on more expensive grades should not be credited to Black Express without confirmation on the actual build.

Pricing in Canadian Dollars

The Ontario configurator listed the regular Black Express Quad Cab V6 build at a C$65,045 base price with no added options. A C$6,500 consumer-cash discount reduced the estimated amount to C$58,545 with sales tax unchecked. The separate Black Express Dealer Special appeared from C$56,400. These are different listed configurations, not interchangeable descriptions of one price.

The discount is time-sensitive and may change or depend on the purchase arrangement. Crew Cab, engine upgrades, paint and trailer equipment alter the amount. Request an itemized Canadian-dollar quotation showing freight treatment, dealer charges, taxes, registration and any incentive eligibility. An advertised cash amount should not be presented as an undiscounted MSRP or a complete drive-away price.

Competition and Package Choice

Ford F-150 STX, Chevrolet Silverado Custom and GMC Sierra Elevation are relevant alternatives for buyers comparing full-size trucks with appearance upgrades. Compare equivalent four-wheel-drive cabs, engines and cargo boxes before judging price. Ram Warlock is another option within the lineup for buyers prioritizing skid plates, all-terrain tires and an electronic locking rear axle.

Black Express offers a clear combination: black exterior details, bucket seats and a console at the lower end of the Ram range. The key decisions are Quad Cab versus Crew Cab, V6 versus an eligible Hurricane configuration, and the towing equipment required for the intended trailer. Those choices matter more to the specification than the package’s black trim alone.

Frequently asked questions

Does Black Express mean the truck must have black paint?

No. Black Express refers to the appearance package, including black wheels and grille details. Multiple body colours are available.

Does the Ram 1500 Black Express seat six?

No. Its front bucket seats and full-length console combine with a three-person rear bench for five seats. The six-seat arrangement of a bench-equipped Ram trim does not apply.

Is the high-output Hurricane engine offered in Black Express?

The available Hurricane described for eligible Black Express configurations is the standard-output version with 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft. The 540-horsepower high-output engine belongs to other grades. Availability depends on the cab and order combination.
