The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 combines a factory-raised suspension and four-wheel-drive hardware with a five-seat leather-trimmed cabin. Its standard Duramax diesel, Rancho shocks and two-speed transfer case distinguish it from the more road-oriented Sierra trims, while heated and ventilated front seats and a large infotainment screen keep the equipment list extensive.
This guide explains the AT4 featured in our video, including available engines, towing considerations, seating, safety equipment, fuel economy and CAD pricing. AT4 and AT4X are different trims with different specifications.

Models and configurations
The 2026 Sierra 1500 range includes Pro, Pro Graphite, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X and Denali Ultimate. Engine, cab and bed availability vary across these models. AT4 is a Crew Cab with standard four-wheel drive and a choice of short or standard bed.
AT4 seats five using front bucket seats and a rear bench. It is separate from the Sierra HD AT4 and the electric Sierra EV. Specifications from either of those trucks should not be substituted for this light-duty Sierra 1500.
Engine specifications

The standard 3.0-litre Duramax turbocharged inline-six diesel produces 305 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 495 lb-ft of torque at 2,750 rpm. It uses a ten-speed automatic transmission with a console-mounted electronic selector and steering-column paddle controls.
The optional 6.2-litre EcoTec3 gasoline V8 produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque and also uses a ten-speed automatic. This engine requires its own fuel-cost comparison against the diesel. The TurboMax four-cylinder and 5.3-litre V8 offered elsewhere in the Sierra range are not the AT4’s engine choices.
Suspension and four-wheel-drive equipment
AT4 includes a two-inch factory suspension lift, Rancho monotube shocks, a two-speed Autotrac transfer case, underbody skid plates and an automatic locking rear differential. Hill Descent Control, red recovery hooks and all-terrain tires are also part of its equipment.
The AT4X adds different hardware, including Multimatic DSSV dampers and front and rear electronic locking differentials. Those AT4X features should not be described as standard on the AT4. The AT4 configuration checked for this article uses 20-inch polished aluminum wheels with grey accents and 275/60R20 all-terrain tires.
Towing and payload
GMC advertises a maximum available AT4 tow rating of 9,000 lb, or 4,082 kg. The diesel Crew Cab short-bed configuration checked in the configurator lists 8,700 lb. These figures depend on configuration and do not mean every AT4 has the same towing limit.
The truck includes an integrated trailer brake controller, Hitch Guidance, Hitch View and an in-vehicle trailering app. The app supports functions such as checklists, trailer light checks and maintenance reminders; some functions require additional sensors or equipment.
For payload, use the loading label on the individual truck. Passengers, bed cargo, accessories and trailer tongue weight all count toward that allowance. The much higher maximum towing figures advertised for the overall Sierra lineup apply to particular configurations and should not be applied automatically to the lifted AT4. Verify gross vehicle, axle, hitch and combined-weight limits before selecting a trailer.
Fuel economy
Natural Resources Canada’s 2026 guide lists the Sierra 4WD with the 3.0-litre diesel at 10.7 L/100 km city, 9.3 highway and 10.1 combined. It separately lists the diesel Sierra 4WD with mud-terrain tires at 11.0 city, 9.9 highway and 10.5 combined. These entries describe specific certification configurations, so match the truck’s EnerGuide label and tire specification when comparing fuel use.
For the 6.2-litre V8, the guide lists the general Sierra 4WD rating at 16.0 city, 12.1 highway and 14.3 combined, with a separate mud-terrain-tire entry of 17.1 city, 14.0 highway and 15.7 combined. The V8 ratings use premium gasoline. AT4X has its own ratings and is not interchangeable with AT4.
Towing, cargo, cold weather, idling and replacement tires can change actual consumption. Diesel ownership also involves diesel exhaust fluid and the maintenance requirements in the owner’s manual.
Interior and seating

The AT4 cabin combines Jet Black trim with Kalahari accents and perforated leather front seating surfaces. The front bucket seats have ten-way power adjustment, heating and ventilation. Heated rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control are included.
Driver memory settings, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering column, remote start and rear air vents add convenience. The rear bench splits 60/40 and folds to create room for items inside the cab. Storage is distributed between the centre console and the rear seating area, with premium floor liners helping protect the cabin.
Bed and cargo practicality

GMC lists 1,781 litres of cargo-bed volume for the short bed and 2,030 litres for the standard bed. Bed volume measures space rather than the weight the truck can carry. Choose the bed length around the equipment you regularly transport, then check its effect on overall truck length and parking requirements.
The MultiPro tailgate provides several opening and step arrangements, while fixed tie-down points help secure cargo. Follow the tailgate and hitch instructions before lowering an inner gate near installed trailering equipment. Bed covers, steps and other accessories can add convenience but also add weight and cost.
Infotainment and optional technology

A 13.4-inch GMC Premium Infotainment touchscreen is paired with a 12.3-inch digital Driver Information Centre. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support compatible phones, while Google built-in functionality depends on the applicable account, data connection and service plan.
AT4’s standard equipment list includes a seven-speaker Bose system with a Richbass woofer, wireless charging, USB connections and household-style power outlets in the instrument panel and pickup bed. Wi-Fi capability and satellite-radio trials have separate service terms.
The $1,820 Technology Package adds the Rear Camera Mirror, head-up display and Bed View Camera. These are optional, rather than features every AT4 receives. The configurator also lists an AT4 Preferred Package at $445 for the power sliding rear window and Universal Home Remote, and an AT4 Premium Package at $1,825 that adds high-clearance steps to those features. Package requirements and pricing can change.
Safety features on AT4

GMC Pro Safety includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and IntelliBeam automatic high beams.
The selected AT4’s standard equipment also includes adaptive cruise control, HD Surround Vision, front and rear parking assistance, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Rear Pedestrian Alert and the Safety Alert Seat. Six airbags, stability and traction control, trailer sway control, tire-pressure monitoring with Tire Fill Alert and Rear Seat Reminder are included.
Surround-view and trailer-camera functions depend on the cameras and accessories installed. Driver assistance does not replace checking the surroundings or supervising the vehicle, and camera performance can be affected by dirt, snow and visibility.
Pricing in CAD
The Ontario diesel Crew Cab short-bed AT4 configuration lists a standard vehicle price of $86,799. Its displayed charges are $2,700 freight, $100 air conditioning, $699 dealer fees, $22 OMVIC and $22.50 tire handling, producing a total of $90,342.50 before sales tax and optional equipment.
The configurator also displays a $10,000 non-stackable cash delivery allowance, reducing that example to $80,342.50 before tax. This is a conditional, time-sensitive offer rather than a permanent MSRP reduction. Check current eligibility, payment-method restrictions and the final dealer quotation before relying on it.
Competition
Compare the Sierra AT4 with the Chevrolet Silverado LT Trail Boss, Ford F-150 Tremor, Ram 1500 Rebel and Toyota Tundra TRD-oriented configurations. A useful comparison includes the exact engine, cab, bed, tires, towing limit and final price, rather than each lineup’s highest advertised rating.
AT4’s distinguishing combination is a standard light-duty diesel, factory lift and a well-equipped five-seat cabin. AT4X is worth comparing when its more extensive suspension and differential hardware is a priority. Buyers who mainly need load capacity should compare the individual loading labels and towing specifications before deciding whether a lifted configuration suits their requirements.
