The 2026 Ford Expedition Platinum MAX combines three-row seating with the extended body of Ford’s largest SUV. Its main advantage is luggage space: families can keep the third row in use and still have substantially more cargo room than in the standard-length Expedition. Platinum adds leather seating, a panoramic roof and an extensive collection of comfort and trailer-assistance features.
This guide covers the Canadian-market Expedition Platinum MAX. The walkaround below shows the vehicle’s design and cabin, while the specifications distinguish standard equipment from available upgrades.

Models and trims

The 2026 lineup includes Active, Platinum, Tremor and King Ranch in the standard body. The longer MAX is offered as Active MAX, Platinum MAX and King Ranch MAX. Tremor is the off-road-focused alternative; Platinum MAX is aimed at buyers who want the additional luggage space and a more extensively equipped cabin.
Engine and transmission
Platinum MAX has a standard twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6, a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission and Intelligent 4WD. Ford lists 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque for the standard engine. A high-output 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 is available, with 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft. Ford’s advertised output figures use premium fuel; the optional engine should not be assumed to be fitted to every Platinum MAX.
The chassis uses independent rear suspension. Continuously Controlled Damping is available, rather than an automatic inclusion on every Platinum build. Engine and suspension upgrades depend on the selected package.
Towing and payload
The Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package is standard on Platinum MAX. Ford’s 2026 towing guide lists a maximum conventional trailer rating of 9,000 lb, approximately 4,082 kg, for Expedition MAX when properly equipped. The 9,600-lb figure advertised for the Expedition range applies to eligible standard-length models and should not be substituted for the MAX rating.
Trailer equipment includes an integrated trailer-brake controller, while Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist are standard on this trim. The towing guide distinguishes weight-carrying from weight-distributing hitch limits. Passengers, luggage, accessories and trailer tongue weight all use vehicle payload, so the door-jamb payload label and the towing instructions for the actual vehicle determine how much it can carry and tow together.
Fuel economy
Natural Resources Canada’s 2026 guide lists the Expedition 4WD with the 3.5-litre engine and 10-speed automatic at 15.3 L/100 km city, 10.8 highway and 13.3 combined. These are the government’s model-level ratings, rather than a separate rating for every Platinum MAX option combination. Ford’s 2026 website also displays an estimated 15.4/10.7/13.3 figure; the combined value is the same, but the city and highway estimates differ slightly.
A larger trailer, winter temperatures and additional load can increase consumption. Buyers choosing the high-output engine should also account for its fuel recommendation when estimating operating costs.
Interior and seating

The Expedition Platinum MAX is a seven-seater as standard, with two front seats, two second-row captain’s chairs and a three-seat third-row bench. An available second-row bench increases capacity to eight. This matters when comparing listings: MAX describes the longer body, not a guarantee of eight seats.
Standard comfort equipment includes leather-trimmed front seats with heating and ventilation, a 10-way power driver’s seat, an eight-way power passenger seat and driver memory. Heated second-row seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals and a panoramic Vista Roof are also included. Multi-contour front seats are available; massage should not be described as standard without checking the package.
The second-row seats use Ford’s tip-and-slide arrangement to provide third-row access. The third row has a 40/20/40 split with PowerFold and Power Recline functions. Platinum MAX also includes the Flex Powered Console, which can move to change the space between the front and second rows. Two 110-volt, 400-watt outlets serve the console and cargo area.

Cargo space and exterior dimensions

Ford lists MAX cargo volumes of approximately 1,059 litres behind the third row, 2,392 litres behind the second row and 3,485 litres with the rear rows folded, using its published measurement method. The standard-length model has about 648 litres behind the third row, making the MAX’s additional rear luggage space a meaningful difference when all seats are occupied.
The MAX body is approximately 5,631 mm long, 2,402 mm wide including mirrors and 1,978 mm high. Those dimensions are worth checking against a garage opening and available parking space. The split tailgate separates the powered upper liftgate from the lower section, providing a different loading arrangement from a conventional one-piece liftgate.
Infotainment and connected features

Ford Digital Experience combines a 24-inch panoramic display with a 13.2-inch centre touchscreen. The panoramic screen presents information across the dashboard, while the centre screen handles the main interactive controls. The system brings Google services into the vehicle and supports compatible smartphone integration.
A 10-speaker B&O sound system is standard. The B&O Unleashed system with 22 speakers is an available upgrade, so it should not be attributed to every Platinum MAX. USB-C connections, a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot and SiriusXM with 360L are also part of the technology offering. Connected services require the applicable activation, account and data plan; included trials do not provide permanent service.
Safety and driver assistance
Platinum MAX includes Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0. Its equipment includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centring, predictive speed assistance, lane-keeping assistance, driver alert, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and cross-traffic alert. Pre-Collision Assist adds automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning and related braking support.
A 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, automatic high beams and reverse braking assistance are standard. These features help address visibility and parking in a vehicle of this size, though their coverage depends on operating conditions.
BlueCruise equipment is listed with a 90-day trial on the model’s standard-equipment page. Longer service plans are available. The hardware and trial should be distinguished from a permanently included subscription; operation is limited to supported roads and requires driver attention.
Wheels and available upgrades
The standard Platinum MAX wheel is a 20-inch Ebony-painted, bright-machined aluminum design with P275/60R20 tires. Larger wheel choices and appearance packages can change the vehicle’s look and replacement-tire costs. Power-deployable running boards, the higher-output engine, upgraded audio and additional luxury equipment should be checked individually on the build sheet.
Pricing
Ford’s Canadian model page displayed a starting price of $99,695 CAD for the 2026 Expedition Platinum MAX. Ford’s disclosure says its displayed starting price is based on MSRP and includes destination and delivery, air-conditioning tax, applicable levies and displayed adjustments or incentives. It excludes sales tax, options, dealer fees and certain other charges.
Optional packages can move the configured price considerably above that starting point. A qualifying configuration may also attract luxury tax, depending on its taxable value and eligibility. An itemized dealer quote is the clearest way to compare vehicles with different engines, seat layouts and packages.
Competition
The closest alternatives are the Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon XL and Jeep Grand Wagoneer L. Each offers an extended three-row body, so the useful comparison is cargo room with the third row occupied, the chosen seat arrangement, included cabin equipment and the towing rating of the actual build. The Lincoln Navigator L is another extended-body option for buyers considering a higher luxury budget.
Within Ford’s own lineup, Active MAX is worth comparing if the extra luggage space is the priority. Platinum MAX makes more sense when its standard cabin and technology equipment are features the buyer will use. The standard-length Platinum remains an alternative when overall length matters more than maximum rear cargo volume.
Is Platinum MAX the right configuration?
The 2026 Ford Expedition Platinum MAX offers a clear combination: extended luggage space, seven seats as standard, an available eight-seat layout and substantial equipped towing capacity. The key decisions are the second-row arrangement, standard or high-output engine, and which comfort packages justify their cost. Comparing those items directly makes the difference between similarly named Platinum MAX listings much easier to understand.
