2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV GT: Specs, Range & Canadian Pricing

The 2025 Mazda CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid GT is the two-row choice for buyers who want plug-in capability and a more extensively equipped cabin. The key distinction is that GT adds comfort and convenience equipment over PHEV GS-L; it does not introduce a stronger plug-in powertrain.

Models available

Canada’s 2025 plug-in lineup has GS-L and GT versions, both with five seats, all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic. The inline-six mild-hybrid CX-70 is a different powertrain, even when its trim name looks similar. Canadian 2025 PHEV specifications.

Powertrain

The plug-in system combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with an electric motor and a 17.8-kWh battery. Mazda specifies 323 hp on 93-octane fuel or 319 hp on 87-octane, with 369 lb-ft in either case; premium is recommended. These are system ratings, not numbers to add to the individual engine or motor outputs. PHEV powertrain ratings.

Electric range and charging

Mazda lists 42 km of electric range. Its charging references are 20–80%, not empty-to-full: 6.4 hours at 120 V/15 A or 1.3 hours at 240 V/30 A, under specified 20°C conditions. Cold weather can also cause the engine to run with a charged battery. Range and charging conditions.

Fuel economy

The Canadian specification lists 9.9 L/100 km city, 8.7 highway and 9.4 combined for gasoline-only operation, plus 4.2 Le/100 km for electricity-and-gasoline energy consumption. The latter is an energy-equivalent measure, not a promise to burn 4.2 litres of gasoline every 100 km. Canadian consumption figures.

To estimate running costs, separate your likely plugged-in driving from longer gasoline-powered travel. Include both electricity and fuel in the budget. Buying the GT equipment package does not, by itself, establish lower energy use than GS-L.

Check the VIN for outstanding recalls: Transport Canada recall 2025447 addresses an incorrect fuel-level display on certain 2025 CX-70s that could lead to running out of fuel and stalling. For affected vehicles awaiting repair, Mazda advises refuelling before the gauge reaches ¼; dealers update the body control module software. Confirm applicability and repair status with Mazda. This example is not a complete recall list.

Towing and cargo

The PHEV’s published towing limit is 3,500 lb (1,588 kg), not the 5,000-lb maximum advertised for certain inline-six CX-70 configurations. Mazda Canada PHEV capability. Use the exact vehicle’s towing instructions and approved equipment before attaching a trailer.

For the GT’s panoramic-roof configuration, Mazda lists SAE cargo volumes of 1,122 litres behind the second row and 2,132 litres behind the front seats. These are the panoramic-roof figures, not the slightly larger values listed for the regular moonroof. Test your usual luggage and bulky items against the opening and seat layout rather than relying on litres alone. Mazda Canada’s 2025 PHEV cargo specifications.

What GT adds

Compared with PHEV GS-L, GT adds Nappa leather, driver memory, an upgraded power passenger seat, front-seat ventilation and heated rear seating. It also brings 21-inch wheels, a panoramic moonroof and a hands-free liftgate. Garnet Red upholstery is a separately priced colour choice, not the only GT interior. Technology and driver assistance

The GT equipment walk lists Bose audio, wireless phone integration, a 360-degree camera and a head-up display. GT equipment walk. Ask for a demonstration with your phone and check any connected-service terms before delivery. Do not assume a previously registered vehicle still has an unused trial.

Cameras and assistance systems supplement the driver rather than replacing attention. Their operating limits vary with weather, lighting and traffic conditions.
