The Canadian Colorado LT and Tacoma TRD Sport are not equivalent packages with different badges. Chevrolet places several daily comfort features into LT, while Toyota combines a six-foot bed with its sport-oriented suspension and appearance treatment. Both can serve as family pickups, but they ask you to prioritize different things before moving up the option ladder.
This comparison selects the 2026 Colorado LT Crew Cab 4WD and the 2026 Tacoma TRD Sport Double Cab with the non-hybrid 2.4-litre turbo gasoline engine, eight-speed automatic and six-foot bed. It is not the Toyota manual, Sport+, Sport Premium or hybrid. Verified Canadian 2026 specifications are used because exact later-year equipment was not established; announced or dealer-listed 2027 trucks must be checked separately, not assumed unchanged.
LT includes comfort items that change the quote
Chevrolet’s exact Canadian LT 4WD configuration, style 477789, lists heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar adjustment, dual-zone automatic climate control and a tilt-and-telescoping column. Remote start, an auto-dimming mirror and the EZ-Lift and Lower StowFlex tailgate are included. Its centre and driver displays measure 11.3 and 11 inches respectively. Chevrolet Canada LT standard equipment.
For a buyer who shares the truck or spends long stretches behind the wheel, seat adjustment is worth testing before appearance packages. Set the pedals and steering reach comfortably, then assess lumbar support. Separate climate settings can also matter if the passenger routinely prefers a different temperature. These features do not prove comfort, but they help identify which trucks are worth a longer test drive.
The tailgate storage arrangement is another reason to inspect the actual truck. Consider what you would keep there, how often you would need access and what the manufacturer permits. Do not count a storage compartment as additional payload or assume it replaces the security of a properly installed toolbox. Its value depends on whether it solves a recurring task.
TRD Sport is not automatically Sport Premium
Toyota’s TRD Sport adds sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, a hood scoop, a 12.3-inch driver display and automatic air conditioning to the SR5 foundation. The standard eight-inch centre display and heated front seats remain. Power front seats, a heated steering wheel and a trailer brake controller are Sport+ additions; the 14-inch centre screen, ventilated seats and dual-zone climate belong to Sport Premium. Toyota Canada’s grade descriptions.
That is a useful trim trap to catch early. A shopper attracted by the Sport badge may expect all the equipment shown on a Sport Premium in the showroom. Instead, ask for the exact grade and package on the quotation. If power seating or dual-zone climate is essential, the Toyota being compared may need to change—and so will the meaningful price comparison.
Sport-tuned suspension is not evidence of a better ride or greater off-road ability. Drive over patched pavement and an ordinary parking entrance with the usual passengers aboard. Record the tires and wheels fitted to the demonstration vehicle. A response that feels appealing to the driver during a brief trip may not be the one rear-seat passengers prefer over a longer journey.
The bed may matter more than either equipment bundle
The selected Toyota is explicitly the six-foot-bed automatic Sport. Chevrolet’s Canadian builder identifies the Colorado as Crew Cab Short Box. Before weighing the convenience features, measure the cargo you need to carry with the tailgate closed and any permanent equipment that occupies the bed. Also check the complete truck against your parking and loading spaces; midsize does not mean identical dimensions.
The selected Chevrolet uses TurboMax with an eight-speed automatic and a single-speed Autotrac case. Do not mistake that last specification for low range. Learn the appropriate use of each truck’s drive settings from the owner’s instructions rather than interpreting a trim badge as a capability guarantee.
Price the equipment step, not just TRD Sport
Toyota Canada’s configurator, checked October 31, 2026 in Ontario, gives these MSRP-plus-package totals for the 2026 Tacoma gas Double Cab 4×4, eight-speed automatic and six-foot bed: TRD Sport C$51,975, Sport+ C$56,374 and Sport Premium C$60,531. Sport+ costs C$4,399 more than Sport; Sport Premium adds C$8,556. Those differences buy complete packages, not just a power seat or climate control. Delivery, dealer and regulatory fees, taxes, licensing, registration, insurance, added accessories and protection plans are extra. These are not all-in purchase prices.
If power seating is essential, compare the LT against the Toyota grade you would actually order rather than crediting the basic Sport with Sport+ equipment. If dual-zone climate is essential, the Toyota step is different again. Toyota’s package prices alone do not establish a Chevrolet saving. An equipment requirement can therefore change which two vehicles belong on your shortlist.
Use our vehicle quote comparison guide to keep the selected packages, required accessories and borrowing costs visible. Ask for installed winter-tire and bed-accessory quotes for each actual configuration; the preferred truck should fit the annual budget as well as the cargo.
Choose a configuration, not a slogan
Start with Colorado LT if the included seating, climate and tailgate conveniences address your priorities. Start with Tacoma TRD Sport if its longer-bed configuration and sport-trim arrangement are the attraction, while keeping the higher-package features separate. For either truck, confirm actual payload, towing equipment and configuration-specific limits with passengers and accessories included. Compare complete written Canadian quotes; this article assigns neither a capacity advantage nor a price winner from a model-range headline.
