The redesigned 2025 Ford Expedition Platinum MAX is most compelling when you need luggage space behind an occupied third row. Its longer body adds useful cargo room, while the Platinum cabin brings leather-trimmed seating, a panoramic roof and power running boards. The optional Platinum Ultimate Package adds more equipment and the high-output engine, but it is not part of every Platinum MAX.
This guide covers the Canadian 2025 Platinum MAX featured in our video, including the two engine specifications, seven- versus eight-seat configurations, towing limits and historical Canadian prices. The standard-wheelbase Expedition’s headline towing figure is kept separate from the MAX.

Models available
The 2025 lineup includes Active, Platinum, Tremor and King Ranch. Active, Platinum and King Ranch are offered in regular and MAX lengths; Tremor is the off-road-oriented regular-length choice. MAX describes the extended body, not a higher equipment grade or the more powerful engine.
Platinum starts with a 400-hp engine. The Stealth Performance and Platinum Ultimate packages bring the 440-hp high-output version. That distinction matters when comparing advertisements: a Platinum with an appearance or comfort option should not automatically be treated as a high-output model. Ford Canada’s 2025 Expedition specifications.
Engine and transmission
The standard twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 produces 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. The available high-output version produces 440 hp and 510 lb-ft. A ten-speed automatic and four-wheel drive are used on the Canadian configurations discussed here.
Choose the package for the equipment you want rather than assuming the extra horsepower increases the MAX towing ceiling. The October Ultimate reference label identifies the high-output engine, but the video description does not establish which package is installed on its Platinum MAX. Both engine specifications are therefore explained instead of assigning the higher one to the reviewed vehicle.
Towing and load limits
Ford Canada lists a maximum of 9,000 lb, approximately 4,082 kg, for a properly equipped 2025 Expedition MAX 4×4. The regular-length Expedition’s available 9,600-lb maximum does not apply to MAX. The Canadian table specifies a 3.73 axle and 15,600-lb gross combined weight rating for the MAX entry. 2025 Canadian Expedition towing selector.
The guide identifies the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package as standard and requires an aftermarket weight-distributing hitch for trailers over 7,000 lb. Passengers, cargo and tongue weight still have to fit within the individual vehicle’s limits. A family occupying all three rows should check the loading label with the actual luggage and trailer load, not assume the headline maximum remains available regardless of what is carried.
Fuel economy
Natural Resources Canada’s 2025 Expedition 4WD rating is 15.4 L/100 km city, 10.7 highway and 13.3 combined. The Canadian MAX factory labels checked here carry the same figures. These are standardized ratings rather than consumption measured in the video. NRCan’s 2025 data.
At 20,000 km a year, 13.3 L/100 km represents about 2,660 litres. Multiply that by your expected gasoline price for an annual planning figure. Winter idling, repeated short trips and towing can make the actual result higher. Include that operating budget alongside the additional purchase price of the MAX body and any premium packages.
Interior, seating and cargo
Platinum’s standard second-row captain’s chairs create a seven-seat layout. An eight-seat Canadian Platinum MAX record lists a power-folding second-row bench as an $800 option. If eight seats are essential, confirm the bench on the actual vehicle; MAX length alone does not guarantee the additional seat. Canadian eight-passenger build record.
The Canadian Platinum equipment list includes front-seat heating and ventilation, leather in the first two rows, tri-zone climate control, a panoramic roof, power running boards and wireless phone charging. Try third-row access with the front and second-row seats adjusted for the people who will use them. A large exterior does not remove the need to check child-seat fit and access.
Ford quotes optimized MAX cargo volumes of 37.4 cu. ft. behind the third row with those seats fully upright, 84.5 behind the second row with those seats fully forward and 123.1 behind the first row, approximately 1,059, 2,393 and 3,486 litres. The corresponding regular-length third-row figure, also with the seats fully upright, is 22.9 cu. ft., about 648 litres. These published optimized measurements are useful for comparison, but measure your own luggage with the seats in their normal positions. Ford Canada’s 2025 body and cargo details; Ford’s 2025 technical specifications explain the seat positions.
MAX is approximately 30 cm longer than the regular body. Check garage length, door clearance and the space needed to use the rear opening before deciding the extra cargo volume is worth it. This is especially important when the SUV shares a garage with storage or a second vehicle.
Split Gate and everyday use
The redesigned rear opening has powered upper and lower sections. Ford rates the lower gate for up to 500 lb, approximately 227 kg, when used as the described seat or loading platform. The available Cargo Tailgate Manager is a separate accessory feature with a 35-lb, approximately 16-kg, shelf/table capacity; its rating is not the lower gate’s rating.
These arrangements can be useful for loading or organizing a stop, but test whether you can comfortably reach everyday items across the lowered gate. Ask for a demonstration of any fitted Cargo Tailgate Manager rather than assuming it accompanies every Platinum.
Infotainment and driver assistance
The new dashboard combines a 24-inch panoramic instrument display with a 13.2-inch central touchscreen and Ford Digital Experience. The Canadian Platinum record includes B&O audio, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control with collision warning and post-collision braking. The wider displays do not change the need to set up navigation and connected accounts while safely parked.
BlueCruise-equipped hardware and an active service plan are separate considerations. The October Ultimate label lists a one-year plan. Confirm its remaining term on a used example, and remember that hands-free assistance still requires an attentive driver. Do not value an expired trial as permanent equipment.
Pricing in CAD
The following original Canadian factory records compare MAX 4×4 configurations. Amounts include the named equipment group or package but exclude destination, the $100 air-conditioning excise tax, other selected options and sales taxes. They were checked on October 28, 2026; the historical label dates differ. This is not a current offer or the video SUV’s confirmed as-tested price.
| 2025 MAX configuration | Historical MSRP (CAD) | Label date | Main distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Active 202A | $90,870 | July 24, 2025 | $85,620 base plus $5,250 group; reference has ActiveX, seven seats, six-speaker audio and group-specific 20-inch wheels. |
| Platinum 600A | $99,550 | October 2, 2025 | Base amount before Ultimate; leather-trimmed cabin, panoramic roof and power running boards. |
| King Ranch 400A | $108,540 | February 12, 2025 | Mesa Del Rio leather treatment and 22-inch Sinister Bronze wheels; regular-output V6. |
| Platinum 600A + Ultimate | $114,495 | October 2, 2025 | $99,550 plus $14,945; high-output V6, 24-inch wheels and upgraded seating/Driver’s Package. |
The October Platinum Ultimate example totals $117,190 after $2,595 destination and $100 excise, before sales taxes or other applicable charges. The February King Ranch label has a different $2,395 destination charge. Keep those dates and fee bases visible instead of subtracting two complete dealer totals and calling the result a trim upgrade price.
Competition and choosing a version
A Chevrolet Suburban or GMC Yukon XL is a useful size comparison when cargo space behind the third row is the priority. Within the Expedition family, first decide whether you need MAX length, then choose the passenger layout and equipment. Ultimate’s engine and wheel changes should be weighed separately from the Platinum’s existing comfort features.
