The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 pairs purpose-built off-road hardware with a well-equipped five-seat cabin. A 3.0-litre Duramax diesel is standard, while a 6.2-litre V8 is available. Locking differentials, Multimatic dampers and a factory suspension lift distinguish it from the rest of the Silverado range.
There is more to the Silverado ZR2 than its appearance. Its standard technology, towing rating and fuel consumption differ from other trims. This guide covers the Crew Cab short-bed 4WD configuration using Canadian manufacturer information. All prices are in CAD.
Available Silverado models
The Silverado 1500 lineup includes WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country and ZR2. Cab, bed and engine choices vary by trim. The ZR2 reference configuration is a Crew Cab with a short bed and four-wheel drive.
Trail Boss models also have a factory lift, but ZR2 adds its own suspension hardware and selectable locking differentials. High Country focuses on luxury equipment. The optional ZR2 Bison Edition adds AEV protection and styling to the ZR2; it is a package rather than the standard truck. Silverado HD ZR2 belongs to a separate heavy-duty range.
Engines and transmission

The standard 3.0-litre Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six produces 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet specifies 3,750 rpm for peak horsepower and 2,750 rpm for peak torque. A ten-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Precision Shift is included.
The optional 6.2-litre EcoTec3 V8 produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It also uses a ten-speed automatic. The larger gasoline engine changes fuel costs and the applicable trailering specification, so comparisons should use the actual engine being ordered.
The ZR2 engine choices differ from the broader Silverado lineup. The TurboMax four-cylinder and 5.3-litre V8 offered on other trims are not listed as ZR2 engine options in the researched configurator.
Suspension and off-road equipment
Standard ZR2 hardware includes a two-inch factory suspension lift and Multimatic DSSV dampers. The truck also has driver-selectable front and rear full-locking differentials. These are different from the automatic locking rear differential found on several other Silverado configurations.
A two-speed Autotrac transfer case offers 2WD High, Auto 4WD, 4WD High and 4WD Low settings. Hill Descent Control and underbody skid plates are included. The front bumper has an off-road cut, and the truck uses 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires on 18-inch wheels.
The optional Bison package adds AEV equipment, including rocker protection and hot-stamped boron-steel skid protection. Buyers should inspect its complete package list rather than assume that every ZR2 has the Bison hardware.
Towing capacity and payload

The Chevrolet configurator lists 8,700 lb of maximum trailering for the standard diesel Crew Cab short-bed ZR2 4WD checked for this article. The Silverado family’s larger maximum towing claim applies to a different configuration and should not be used as the ZR2 rating.
A Trailering Package, integrated trailer brake controller, Hitch Guidance and Hitch View are included. The in-vehicle Trailering App provides functions such as a checklist, light sequencing and maintenance reminders. HD Surround Vision and trailer-camera provisions support additional views when the required auxiliary cameras are fitted.
Payload is specific to the completed truck. Check the door-jamb label and VIN-specific trailering information before matching a trailer. Passengers, accessories, cargo and tongue weight all consume carrying capacity. The published maximum does not establish the remaining payload of a loaded ZR2.
ZR2 fuel economy
Natural Resources Canada publishes a dedicated Silverado 4WD ZR2 diesel entry: 11.6 L/100 km city, 10.5 highway and 11.1 combined. These figures are higher than the regular diesel Silverado 4WD entry. Using the ordinary truck’s fuel rating would understate the ZR2’s certified consumption.
The ZR2 with the 6.2-litre V8 is rated at 17.1 L/100 km city, 14.1 highway and 15.7 combined. The guide lists premium gasoline for that engine. Actual consumption changes with load, towing, weather, terrain and other conditions.
Interior and seating

Front bucket seats and a three-person rear bench give the Silverado ZR2 seating for five. The reference interior uses Jet Black/Graystone perforated leather-appointed front seating. Both front seats have ten-way power adjustment, and the driver gets memory settings.
Heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats and a heated steering wheel are listed as standard equipment. Dual-zone automatic climate control and rear air vents serve the cabin. A power tilt-and-telescoping steering column and remote start are also included.
The rear bench folds in a 60/40 split. Seatback storage, full-width underseat storage and a folding centre armrest provide places for smaller items. The front console includes cupholders, removable storage and wireless phone charging. A power sliding rear window and rear defogger are standard.
Chevrolet’s equipment descriptions sometimes carry historical availability notes. Confirm the final window sticker for the particular truck, especially if an advertised vehicle differs from the current build-and-price configuration.

Infotainment and displays

A 13.4-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Premium touchscreen is standard, with Google built-in compatibility and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 12.3-inch digital Driver Information Centre handles vehicle information. The ZR2 also includes a multi-colour 15-inch head-up display.
A seven-speaker Bose system with a Richbass woofer provides audio. USB connections are available in the dashboard, centre console and rear console area. Standard 120-volt outlets in the cabin and pickup bed can supply compatible equipment within their rated limits.
The included Technology Package brings a Rear Camera Mirror, which can display a camera view in place of the conventional mirror reflection. Connected apps, navigation, Wi-Fi and subscription entertainment depend on compatible devices, coverage and the applicable service plan.
Safety and driver assistance
Chevy Safety Assist includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and IntelliBeam automatic high beams.
The Silverado ZR2 also lists adaptive cruise control, Front and Rear Park Assist, HD Surround Vision and a Bed View Camera. Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Rear Pedestrian Alert and a vibrating Safety Alert Seat add assistance around the vehicle.
Six airbags, stability control with trailer sway control, Hill Start Assist and tire-pressure monitoring are included. Teen Driver, a rear-seat reminder and rear seat-belt indicators provide further safety functions. Assistance systems have operating limits and require an attentive driver.
Pickup bed and exterior
The ZR2 includes a Chevytec spray-on bedliner, fixed cargo tie-downs, cargo-bed LED lighting and a CornerStep rear bumper. Its Multi-Flex Tailgate offers six configurations for access and loading. The reference truck has a short bed, so buyers should check its dimensions against the items they need to carry.
LED headlamps, fog lamps and tail lamps are listed, along with heated power-folding mirrors, rain-sensing wipers and red recovery hooks. The standard wheels combine a machined face, black spokes and Oxide Gold accents. An optional Dark Appearance Package changes selected exterior details.
Pricing and optional packages
Chevrolet’s Ontario configurator listed the diesel Silverado ZR2 at $93,299 before fees. Freight of $2,700, a $100 air-conditioning charge, $699 dealer fees, $22 OMVIC and $22.50 tire handling brought the displayed total to $96,842.50 before HST.
A conditional $10,000 non-stackable cash delivery allowance reduced the displayed net price to $86,842.50. That is a dated incentive example, not a permanent base price. The engine-selection page showed approximately $99,063 for the V8 version including displayed fees, before additional options and taxes.
The builder listed the ZR2 Bison Edition at $9,840, Dark Appearance Package at $250 and Interior Convenience Package at $1,260. Accessories and package dependencies can change the final total. Compare a written quote using the same engine, options and incentive eligibility.
Competition
The GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X is a close alternative with related off-road hardware and a different premium cabin. Ford F-150 Raptor emphasizes its own high-performance off-road package. Ram 1500 Rebel offers another approach to an off-road pickup, while Ram RHO occupies a more performance-focused position.
Compare the actual engine, fuel rating, payload label, towing equipment and final purchase price. Within Chevrolet’s range, LT Trail Boss may suit buyers wanting a factory lift at a lower price, while High Country prioritizes premium interior details.

Frequently asked questions
Does the 2026 Silverado ZR2 come standard with a V8?
No. The 3.0-litre Duramax diesel is standard, producing 305 hp and 495 lb-ft. The 420-hp 6.2-litre V8 is optional. Both pair with a ten-speed automatic.
What is the towing capacity of the Silverado 1500 ZR2?
The diesel Crew Cab short-bed ZR2 4WD example in this article lists 8,700 lb. Use the exact truck’s trailering information and payload label rather than the broader Silverado lineup maximum.
Does the ZR2 use the same fuel-economy rating as a regular Silverado?
NRCan lists separate ZR2 ratings. The diesel ZR2 is rated at 11.1 L/100 km combined, and the 6.2-litre ZR2 at 15.7 L/100 km combined. Using the regular diesel Silverado’s lower figure would misrepresent this trim.
