2026 Ford Ranger Lariat vs. Maverick Lariat: Specs & Features

The 2026 Ford Ranger Lariat versus Maverick Lariat comparison starts with two very different kinds of pickup. Ranger is a midsize, body-on-frame truck with a larger cargo box and substantially more trailer capacity. Maverick is a compact, unibody pickup that offers a hybrid powertrain alongside a turbocharged gas engine. Both seat five and add comfort and technology through the Lariat trim.

This specifications guide covers the Canadian versions, their equipment, fuel consumption, towing requirements and CAD pricing. It accompanies our walkaround video.

Where Lariat Fits in Each Lineup

The Ranger range comprises XL, XLT, Lariat and Raptor. Lariat adds equipment and upgraded cabin materials to the regular Ranger platform; Raptor has its own engine and suspension specification. Ranger Lariat comes as a four-door SuperCrew with standard 4×4. Its available 2.7-litre engine should not be confused with the Raptor’s 3.0-litre V6.

Maverick offers XL, XLT, Lobo, Lariat and Tremor. Lariat has all-wheel drive with either the 2.5-litre hybrid or 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine. Lobo is the sport-oriented alternative, while Tremor adds specialized off-road equipment. Their fuel and towing figures should not be substituted for those of a Lariat.

Engines and Transmissions

Ranger Lariat’s standard 2.3-litre turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder produces 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The optional 2.7-litre twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 produces 315 horsepower and 400 lb-ft. Both use a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

Maverick Lariat’s 2.5-litre full hybrid pairs a gasoline engine with an electric motor and a power-split electric continuously variable transmission. It does not require plugging in. The available 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder produces 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque and uses an eight-speed automatic. Both Lariat choices have AWD, but their fuel consumption and transmission designs differ.

Towing, Payload and Cargo Boxes

Ranger Lariat can tow up to 7,500 lb with the required Trailer Tow Package, with either its 2.3-litre or 2.7-litre engine. The separate Advanced Towing Package adds trailer assistance equipment. A high published tow rating does not mean the necessary package is standard.

Ford lists Ranger 4×4 payload maxima of 1,763 lb with the 2.3-litre engine and 1,513 lb with the 2.7-litre V6. These are configuration ceilings, rather than the guaranteed payload of every optioned Lariat. People, accessories, cargo and trailer tongue weight all consume payload; the actual truck’s door label and towing guide govern its limits.

Maverick Lariat has a standard 2,000-lb towing limit and a hitch receiver with four-pin connector. The optional 4K Tow Package increases the properly equipped truck’s maximum to 4,000 lb. Ford offers the package with AWD hybrid and EcoBoost configurations. The Canadian hybrid Lariat builder listed it at $1,000. The range-wide 1,500-lb maximum payload is also subject to configuration and the vehicle’s label.

Ranger’s box measures 1,514 mm long and provides 1,232.6 litres of cargo volume. Maverick’s FLEXBED measures 1,382 mm long, approximately 4.5 feet, and uses a multi-position tailgate and storage features to help secure different loads. The Lariat builder includes a Tough Bed spray-in liner and locking bed rails. Box length is a useful difference when comparing equipment that must fit with the tailgate closed.

Fuel Economy

The 2026 Natural Resources Canada ratings, in L/100 km city / highway / combined, distinguish the engines and the Maverick Lariat hybrid specifically:

  • Ranger 4×4, 2.3-litre EcoBoost: 12.2 / 9.9 / 11.2.
  • Ranger 4×4, 2.7-litre EcoBoost: 13.0 / 10.0 / 11.6.
  • Maverick Lariat hybrid AWD: 6.0 / 7.3 / 6.6.
  • Maverick EcoBoost AWD: 10.6 / 7.8 / 9.4.

These entries are rated for regular gasoline. Ford’s published maximum engine output can depend on fuel and test conditions. Consumption ratings are standardized estimates; towing, load, winter temperatures and tire choices change actual use. The 5.9-L/100-km city figure advertised for some Maverick hybrid configurations is not the Lariat AWD figure above.

Interior and Seating

Both trucks use front bucket seats and a rear bench to accommodate five occupants. For 2026, Ford’s Canadian Ranger Lariat equipment list specifies ActiveX-trimmed seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, ambient lighting, rain-sensing wipers and an auto-dimming mirror. Describing the upholstery as leather simply because an older Lariat used leather would be misleading.

Maverick Lariat also uses ActiveX upholstery, with Smoked Truffle among its interior choices. Its equipment includes heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, a six-way manually adjustable passenger seat, a heated steering wheel and dual-zone climate control. The rear seat provides storage beneath its flip-up cushion. A power moonroof is optional.

Infotainment and Convenience

Ranger Lariat has a 12-inch centre touchscreen, a 12-inch instrument display and SYNC 4A. Its B&O audio system has 10 speakers, including a subwoofer. Wireless phone charging and 400-watt Pro Power Onboard are available through the Convenience Package; they should not be assumed to be standard on every 2026 Lariat.

Maverick Lariat combines a 13.2-inch centre touchscreen with an eight-inch instrument display and SYNC 4. Its standard B&O system has eight speakers. The equipment list includes 110-volt, 400-watt outlets in the rear console and bed, Intelligent Access and remote-start capability. Screen size, speaker count and available electrical outlets offer concrete differences between the two cabins.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Ranger Lariat includes Ford Co-Pilot360 technology with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert and trailer coverage. Its equipment list also includes adaptive cruise control with speed-sign recognition and front parking sensors. Available towing technology must be matched to the installed package rather than inferred from the Lariat name.

Maverick Lariat’s standard Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 equipment includes adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage. Ford also lists intersection assistance, exit warning, front and rear parking sensors, reverse brake assistance and rear cross-traffic braking. These systems support an attentive driver and operate within their stated limits.

Pricing in CAD

Ford’s Canadian Ranger Lariat model page displayed a starting price of $58,290. Its starting-price disclosure includes destination/delivery, applicable air-conditioning and green levies, and any current adjustments or incentives, while excluding options, retailer charges, licensing and sales taxes.

Ford’s Canadian Maverick builder displayed $47,695 for the EcoBoost Lariat. Selecting the hybrid produced a base MSRP of $47,100 plus $2,595 in listed fees, or $49,695 before paint and other options. The automatically selected $600 paint made that example $50,295. Dealer charges and sales taxes require a separate quote, and incentives can change. These are starting/configuration references, not the price of the trucks shown in the video.

Competition and Which Specification Fits

Ranger Lariat competes with well-equipped versions of the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. Compare their required towing packages, actual payload labels, cab layouts and included safety equipment. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is a more direct compact-pickup alternative to Maverick, although its engine choices and box design differ.

For this Ranger Lariat versus Maverick Lariat comparison, the measurable priorities are clear: Ranger offers the larger box and higher towing ceiling. Maverick offers a much lower rated fuel-consumption figure with the hybrid and a lower starting price. A buyer who needs 4,000-lb towing from a Maverick must add the correct package; a buyer who needs Ranger’s 7,500-lb rating must also specify the required equipment.
