The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid GR SPORT AWD adds Gazoo Racing styling and hardware to Toyota’s new-generation compact SUV. It is a five-seat plug-in hybrid with 324 system horsepower. The GR SPORT has its own range, equipment and towing specifications, so SE and XSE figures should not be substituted for this trim.

RAV4 plug-in hybrid models in Canada
The Canadian PHEV choices are SE, XSE, XSE with Technology Package and GR SPORT. All have AWD. The regular RAV4 Hybrid lineup is separate and includes LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Woodland, Limited and XSE configurations. A regular hybrid cannot be plugged in; a PHEV can use externally charged battery energy before continuing with its gasoline-electric system.
2026 RAV4 GR SPORT engine specifications

The sixth-generation plug-in hybrid system combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, electric motors, a lithium-ion traction battery and an eCVT. Output is 324 combined system horsepower. Toyota’s Canadian summary lists battery capacity at 22.7 kWh. The horsepower figure describes the combined system, so the engine and motor outputs should not be added independently.
Electric range and fuel economy
The current Canadian product summary lists GR SPORT electric range at 79 km, compared with 89 km for SE and 85 km for XSE. An early 80-km launch estimate and the later “up to 89 km” range headline describe different references; neither should replace the trim-specific GR SPORT figure.
Toyota lists GR SPORT gasoline consumption at 5.7 L/100 km city, 7.2 highway and 6.4 combined, plus a combined electricity-equivalent figure of 2.9 Le/100 km. The latter includes electricity expressed as a gasoline equivalent and is not a promise of 2.9 litres of actual gasoline per 100 km. Battery temperature, charging frequency, weather and use affect consumption and electric range.
RAV4 GR SPORT charging equipment
GR SPORT uses J1772 AC charging. Toyota’s current Canadian features page estimates approximately 3.5 hours from 10% to 100% using a 7-kW Level 2 charger under ideal conditions. The product-summary table gives a three-hour minimum estimate. Allow for charging conditions and consult the actual vehicle’s instructions.
DC fast charging and the higher 11-kW AC arrangement are associated with the XSE Technology Package on the current Canadian features page. They are not GR SPORT equipment. Earlier launch information differs from the current trim specification, making the exact connector and vehicle documentation especially important before selecting charging equipment.
Towing and payload

Toyota’s Canadian summary leaves the GR SPORT towing rating blank. The 3,500-lb rating listed for SE and XSE should not be assigned to GR SPORT. Confirm towing permission in the applicable owner’s manual before fitting a hitch. The summary lists GR SPORT comparison payload at 578 kg (1,274 lb); the completed vehicle’s load label determines its actual allowance for passengers, luggage and accessories.
Safety and driver assistance
Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 is standard, including pre-collision assistance, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, lane tracing, automatic high beams and proactive driving assistance. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and Safe Exit Alert are included. GR SPORT also has the panoramic-view camera, while front and rear parking assistance with automatic braking is listed in the Canadian summary.
Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist, Front Cross Traffic Alert and Advanced Park are XSE Technology Package equipment. They should not be described as GR SPORT features. These assistance systems have operating limits and require attentive use.
RAV4 GR SPORT interior and five seats

GR SPORT has two rows and five seats, with synthetic-suede and SofTex upholstery, red stitching and GR details. Its equipment includes a heated GR steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, wireless phone charging and an auto-dimming mirror with garage-door opener. Toyota lists 951 litres of cargo capacity; check usable space with the rear seats occupied for the loads you actually carry.

RAV4 GR SPORT infotainment

The centre screen measures 12.9 inches, while the digital driver display measures 12.3 inches. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provide smartphone integration. GR SPORT uses the six-speaker audio system; XSE’s nine-speaker JBL setup should not be assumed. Toyota Multimedia includes connected-service features, with availability, trials and subscriptions dependent on the service and vehicle.
GR SPORT exterior equipment
The trim features unique 20-inch wheels, red-painted brake calipers, a rear spoiler, distinct bumpers and sport-tuned suspension with dedicated dampers. These are hardware and appearance specifications. The Canadian summary lists 191 mm of ground clearance for GR SPORT, different from SE and XSE.
2026 RAV4 GR SPORT Canadian pricing
Toyota’s March 2026 announcement lists GR SPORT MSRP at $57,500 CAD and estimated vehicle price at $61,158. The estimated price includes freight/PDI, A/C charge and specified maximum fees, excluding taxes, licence, insurance and registration. PHEV SE starts at $48,750 MSRP, XSE at $56,400 and XSE Technology at $59,350. Compare a current written quote with the equipment and fee treatment shown.
Competition and buying considerations
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid and Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid are relevant compact-SUV alternatives. Compare charging equipment, electric range, passenger layout, cargo space and Canadian price. A regular RAV4 Hybrid is also worth comparing if routine charging is impractical. Buyers needing towing or DC charging should examine the appropriate PHEV trim rather than selecting GR SPORT on appearance alone. Browse our other SUV reviews for more choices.
