The 2026 Ford F-150 STX and 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom are often compared as appearance-oriented steps above work-truck trims. The most useful difference is inside: Ford lists front buckets and a console, while Chevrolet lists a 40/20/40 front bench. Decide how you will use that space before choosing the wheels you prefer.
This Canadian specification comparison was checked October 30, 2026. It covers ordinary STX and Custom, not STX FX4, Lobo or Custom Trail Boss. It is not a firsthand back-to-back road test.
Front-seat layout can decide the shortlist
Ford lists cloth front buckets with a flow-through console on STX. Chevrolet lists a 40/20/40 split bench with covered armrest storage and a ten-way power driver’s seat including lumbar control on Custom. Sources: Ford Canada STX interior; Chevrolet Canada Custom equipment.
If you need the additional front seating position, inspect the Chevrolet layout and confirm it meets your actual passenger requirements. If you prefer a permanent console, try the Ford’s storage and reach. Do not assume that two trucks with similar exterior intentions have the same cabin function.
Cab choice matters as much as the front seats. Ford lists STX SuperCab with a 6.5-foot bed, or SuperCrew with a 5.5- or 6.5-foot bed; its flat rear load floor is specifically listed for SuperCrew. Compare the actual Chevrolet cab and bed on the quote, then try rear access with your regular passengers and check storage with every required seat occupied.
Included conveniences matter more than a wheel photograph
Custom lists remote start, a Trailering Package and an EZ Lift power-lock/release tailgate. It has 20-inch silver-painted wheels. STX highlights 18-inch black wheels and a 12-inch centre touchscreen. Sources: Chevrolet Custom specifications; Ford STX specifications.
The STX already includes a power-lock tailgate; that is not the same claim as Chevrolet’s listed EZ Lift assistance and power release. If easier loading matters, try those functions rather than comparing the word “power” on two equipment lists. Have the Ford quote identify the remote-start and tailgate functions you want before treating the convenience packages as equivalent.
Try the tailgate and load access in person. For the display, connect your phone and find routine controls while parked. Wheel diameter is a measurable difference but does not establish better ride, grip or value. Check the actual tire fitment and replacement cost.
Standard engines: modest output differences, different transmissions
STX starts with the 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6, rated at 325 hp and 400 lb-ft, with a ten-speed automatic. Custom’s TurboMax produces 310 hp and 430 lb-ft with an eight-speed automatic. Sources: Ford Canada powertrain information; Chevrolet Canada engine information.
Ford has 15 more published horsepower; Chevrolet has 30 lb-ft more torque. Neither number makes a towing winner, and ten ratios versus eight does not establish a better transmission in your use. Drive both on representative roads and compare ordinary response, shifting and noise.
Do not import the off-road packages
Ford identifies the STX FX4 201A group as an option. Chevrolet’s Custom Trail Boss is a different trim with equipment that must not be attributed to ordinary Custom. Sources: Ford STX package information; Chevrolet trim comparison.
If you need specific off-road hardware, identify it separately and price the appropriate configuration. A body-colour bumper, dark wheel or familiar badge does not establish a locker, skid plates or a factory lift.
Match cab, drivetrain and the load before the payment
Specify the required cab, bed and drivetrain on both quotes. If towing, obtain the configuration-specific trailer limit and actual loading label. Include passengers, accessories, cargo and tongue load, and identify the controller, connectors and hitch equipment required for your trailer. A package called Trailering is not a substitute for checking the contents and limits.
Request itemized Canadian quotes showing essential equipment, freight, fees, taxes and incentive eligibility. Use the selected builds’ EnerGuide information and local fuel prices for the running-cost estimate. Compare total borrowing cost if financing.
The verdict
Start with STX if its bucket-seat/console layout and standard interface suit how you use the cabin. Start with Custom if the front bench and listed convenience equipment solve more of your needs. The sensible choice is the complete seating-and-equipment package, not simply black wheels versus silver wheels.
