For a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST, the most useful starting point is the exact truck for sale. Engine, cab, seats and factory packages can change its suitability for passengers and towing. Body-colour styling and the larger-screen cabin make RST attractive below the luxury trims, but the equipment list determines whether an individual example is good value.
The accompanying original walkaround shows the vehicle’s design and cabin. Published capability figures below describe configurations in the model range; they are not measurements from the filmed truck.

Where the RST fits in the Silverado lineup
The Silverado 1500 range includes WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country and ZR2. RST is an appearance and equipment trim, not one specific engine or a guarantee of a particular tow rating. A truck with additional off-road equipment needs to be compared using its actual package list.
For an RST purchase, start with the required body and drivetrain, then the engine and seats. Comparing a base-price truck against a Crew Cab with a V8, bucket seats, leather and trailering upgrades can create a misleading price gap. The optioned RST may also overlap with another trim once both quotes include the features you actually want.
2025 Silverado RST engine choices
| Engine | Published output | Automatic transmission |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7-litre TurboMax turbo four-cylinder | 310 hp / 430 lb-ft | Eight-speed |
| 5.3-litre EcoTec3 V8 | 355 hp / 383 lb-ft | Ten-speed |
| 6.2-litre EcoTec3 V8 | 420 hp / 460 lb-ft | Ten-speed |
| 3.0-litre Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six | 305 hp / 495 lb-ft | Ten-speed |
These are four engine choices across eligible RST configurations, with availability depending on the build. Chevrolet Canada’s 2025 configurator lists the 6.2-litre RST with front bucket seats and the ten-speed transmission. Check the cab, drivetrain and equipment combination before treating any engine as available on every RST.
Horsepower and torque describe different aspects of the specification. The TurboMax’s torque figure does not mean it has the V8’s horsepower, nor does the diesel’s peak torque establish a universal towing advantage for every cab. Compare the truck’s complete specification and the loads you need to carry.
Towing: find the right row in the chart
Chevrolet’s Canadian 2025 trailering chart lists a Silverado 1500 maximum of 13,300 lb for qualifying diesel configurations. That number should not be attached to every RST. For the 6.2-litre Crew Cab 4WD entries, the chart lists up to 13,200 lb with the specified RST, Max Trailering Package and 20-inch-wheel requirements.
The same chart contains substantially lower ratings for other combinations. Identify the engine, cab, bed, drivetrain, required package and wheel specification before choosing a number. Then check the individual truck’s labels and owner’s manual. Passengers, accessories, cargo and trailer tongue weight can restrict the usable load even when the advertised trailer weight looks sufficient.
For a used truck, the presence of a receiver does not prove that the factory Max Trailering Package is installed. Ask for the build record and inspect any aftermarket towing equipment. Confirm the hitch’s permitted arrangement, trailer-brake provisions and the loaded trailer weight before planning a combination.
Interior, seating and infotainment
RST configurations can have a front bench for six occupants or front buckets and a centre console for five. That choice changes both passenger capacity and front-row storage. Check rear-seat space with the people or child seats you plan to carry, and consider how tools and valuables will be secured when the truck is parked.
The RST’s dashboard includes a 13.4-inch touchscreen with Google built-in compatibility and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for compatible phones. Connected navigation and other online services can depend on accounts, service plans and trial terms. Demonstrate the functions you need rather than assuming everything on a screen remains included indefinitely.
Canadian 2025 RST listings include heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and dual-zone climate control. Leather seating, Bose audio, a sunroof, additional cameras and other convenience features depend on equipment. Heated seats should not be confused with ventilated seats: a listing needs to confirm the specific function rather than grouping both together as an assumed package.
Safety and assistance equipment
Chevrolet Safety Assist includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator and IntelliBeam automatic high beams. Additional parking, blind-zone, camera and cruise-control equipment must be checked against the truck’s build.
On an inspection, test camera views and look for damage or modifications around sensors. Ask whether repaired or replaced components required calibration. Driver-assistance features have operating limits and do not establish that a collision will be avoided. A seller’s broad description such as “fully loaded” is not an equipment list.
Fuel economy and a realistic ownership budget
There is no single consumption figure for every 2025 RST. Fuel type, engine, drivetrain and configuration must match the fuel-consumption record being used. Do not compare a two-wheel-drive TurboMax rating with a four-wheel-drive V8 and attribute the entire difference to trim.
For a transparent example, an assumed 13 L/100 km over 20,000 km uses 2,600 litres. At an illustrative $1.60 per litre, that is $4,160 annually. Those are budgeting assumptions, not an RST certification or current pump-price claim. Substitute the matching published rating and your expected use, then add insurance, servicing, tires and financing.
Pricing and buying a 2025 example now
A launch price is not a current used-truck valuation. Compare listings with matching engine, cab, drivetrain and major packages, then account for kilometres, condition, service history and warranty remaining. Ask whether an advertised price depends on financing or a trade-in, and obtain the cash price and borrowing costs separately.
A useful comparison sheet records the vehicle price, fees, tax, engine, seating, towing package, tire condition and documented service work. A lower-priced truck that immediately needs tires or has unsuitable towing equipment may be a poorer match than a more expensive example with the right specification.
RST versus other trims and rivals
Compare LT when the large-screen cabin matters more than the RST’s exterior treatment. Compare LT Trail Boss or ZR2 when their specific off-road hardware is the reason for buying. Check LTZ or High Country if the RST quote grows substantially after adding luxury and assistance packages.
The Ford F-150, Ram 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 are relevant alternatives, but match model year, body style, engine and equipment. Range-wide towing maximums and unrelated entry prices do not make a fair comparison between individual trucks.
Before you commit
- Confirm the VIN, engine, seating layout and factory build record.
- Photograph payload, tire and trailering labels for the actual truck.
- Review service history, applicable recalls and evidence of completed repairs.
- Have a qualified independent technician inspect a used example, including modifications and towing hardware.
- Compare the full written price and financing costs with an equivalent alternative.
The RST is most relevant when its styling and equipment suit your needs without adding packages you will rarely use. Its value depends on the configuration and condition being purchased.
