The 2024 GMC Yukon XL Denali combines the extended Yukon body with Denali equipment. It is a different comparison from the standard-length Yukon: buyers should keep body length, engine and options consistent when weighing one listing against another.

For this guide, the useful step-up comparison is Yukon XL Denali versus Yukon XL Denali Ultimate. Both price rows below are XL 4WD models, not the shorter Yukon. The Ultimate name describes a higher equipment level; it does not mean every ordinary Denali has the same features.
Engine and transmission
The Canadian gas Denali specification is a 6.2-litre V8 rated at 420 hp and 460 lb-ft, paired with a ten-speed automatic and four-wheel drive. A 3.0-litre diesel is also an option; the actual engine must be checked on the build sheet. 2024 XL Denali gas specification; Engine availability.
An engine choice changes more than the headline output. Compare fuel requirements, maintenance records and the way you will load the vehicle. Do not transfer the updated diesel figures from a later model year to a 2024 vehicle.
Cabin and equipment
The Canadian equipment comparison lists heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and a head-up display for Denali. Air suspension, a panoramic roof and power-retractable steps are optional on Denali but included on Denali Ultimate; Ultimate also adds front massage. Denali equipment comparison.
The 2024 XL Denali equipment listing uses a 10.2-inch infotainment display with Google built-in. This is not the later refreshed dashboard. Connected-service availability and any subscriptions should be checked separately when buying used. Canadian 2024 vehicle equipment listing.
Bring the items you regularly carry when checking the cabin: a stroller, sports bags or travel cases are more useful than guessing from photographs. Test access to the third row with your intended second-row layout, and make sure all seat-folding controls operate correctly.
Fuel economy
These standardized NRCan figures apply to 2024 Yukon XL 4WD engine configurations, not short-body Yukon. Canadian fuel-consumption data.
| 2024 Yukon XL 4WD | City L/100 km | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6.2L V8 — premium gasoline | 16.6 | 13.0 | 15.0 |
| 3.0L diesel | 11.7 | 9.0 | 10.5 |
At 20,000 km annually, the combined figures represent 3,000 litres of gasoline or 2,100 litres of diesel. Those quantities are not a dollar saving: the fuels have different prices, and purchase and maintenance costs also matter. Actual consumption varies with route, weather, loading and idling.
Towing and ownership checks
Use the specific vehicle’s trailering documentation and payload label rather than assuming the highest Yukon-family rating applies. Engine, installed equipment and loading matter. Include everyone and everything travelling in the SUV when assessing a trailer combination.
For a used example, review service records and check all electronic and suspension functions. Obtain a VIN-specific recall check and confirm completion of any applicable repairs. A model description cannot establish the status of the individual vehicle you are buying.
For a 6.2-litre V8 example, ask GM to check the VIN for Transport Canada recall 2025225. Certain 2024 Yukon XL vehicles can suffer engine failure and loss of drive power because of defective connecting-rod or crankshaft components. This recall does not cover the diesel or 5.3-litre V8. Confirm completion of the required dealer inspection and remedy; the model name alone does not establish recall status.

| 2024 XL trim | Catalog CAD price | Difference | Equipment distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Denali | $108,999 | Reference | 6.2L V8; head-up display and heated/ventilated fronts |
| Denali Ultimate | $133,399 | $24,400 more | Air suspension, panoramic roof, retractable steps and front massage |
The source pages also contain unrelated comparison vehicles; only the explicitly identified 2024 Yukon XL rows are used here. Equipment distinctions are supported by the Canadian Denali/Ultimate equipment table. Compare equivalent options before deciding whether an upgraded Denali or Ultimate makes more sense.
Is Denali enough?
Start with the features you would actually use, then compare the complete quotes. The Ultimate premium is not automatically worthwhile for every household, but an option-heavy Denali should not be compared with an unoptioned headline price. Condition and service history remain important when the vehicles are used.
