The Canadian Suburban catalog includes LS, LT, Z71, RST, Premier and High Country. For a focused equipment and price comparison, the table below uses RST and Premier with the same 5.3-litre engine and four-wheel drive. Canadian 2024 lineup.
Engine and transmission
The RST’s standard gas configuration uses a 5.3-litre V8 rated at 355 hp and 383 lb-ft, with a ten-speed automatic and four-wheel drive. Canadian RST/Premier specifications.
The Canadian RST catalog also lists a 6.2-litre V8 and 3.0-litre diesel as options. Its Sport Performance Package combines the 6.2-litre engine, Magnetic Ride Control and dual twin exhaust tips. Do not assume an RST has that package merely from the badge. RST engine and package choices.
If comparing used listings, ask for the engine and package codes before judging the price difference. A higher asking price might reflect engine, options, condition or kilometres rather than a better deal on the same specification.
Interior and practical use
The RST catalog offers upgrades through packages, including a heated steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats, surround-view cameras and power-folding rear seats. Their availability is not proof that they are fitted to every RST. Canadian RST package content.
Check the second-row layout in the actual vehicle. A bench and individual seats serve different family needs, particularly when child seats are installed. Test how you reach the back row and how much room remains for your normal luggage with the seats in use.
Fuel economy
NRCan’s 2024 Suburban 4WD reference ratings vary by engine. They are not measured consumption from the video or proof of the filmed engine. Canadian fuel-consumption data.
| 2024 Suburban 4WD | City L/100 km | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5.3L V8 — regular gasoline | 16.2 | 13.2 | 14.8 |
| 6.2L V8 — premium gasoline | 16.6 | 13.0 | 15.0 |
| 3.0L diesel | 11.7 | 9.0 | 10.5 |
For an illustrative 20,000 km year, the 5.3-litre combined figure represents 2,960 litres. At an assumed $1.60 per litre, that is $4,736, not a current pump-price quote. Compare the different fuels at their actual prices before drawing a cost conclusion; loading, winter driving and idling also affect use.
Towing and ownership
The RST offers a Max Trailering Package. Confirm the installed equipment and vehicle-specific rating before choosing a trailer. RST trailering package availability.
A family SUV can carry substantial passenger and luggage weight before a trailer is attached. Account for that load and tongue weight using the actual payload label. Do not apply the highest advertised Suburban tow figure to every engine and option combination.
Buying a 6.2-litre example? Transport Canada recall 2025225 includes certain 2024 Suburbans with the 6.2-litre gasoline V8. A connecting-rod or crankshaft defect can cause engine failure and loss of drive power. Ask GM to check the VIN and confirm the required inspection and remedy are complete. This recall does not cover the 5.3-litre or diesel versions; the RST badge alone does not establish the engine or recall status.

| 2024 trim | Catalog CAD price | Difference | What to compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| RST 4WD 5.3L | $93,099 | Reference | Available Sport Performance Package adds the 6.2-litre V8 and Magnetic Ride Control; not included in this 5.3-litre price. |
| Premier 4WD 5.3L | $99,799 | $6,700 more | Standard ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and heated steering wheel |
Premier’s extra standard comfort equipment may reduce the need to add packages, but compare your complete configurations before deciding. Standard versus optional equipment. Do not substitute an advertised two-wheel-drive LT price and present the entire gap as a trim-only difference.
Is RST the right choice?
RST is worth comparing when its particular configuration matches your priorities. Write down the engine, seating arrangement and comfort features you need, then price those on both RST and Premier. For used vehicles, balance equipment against maintenance history, condition and total ownership cost.
