The GMC Yukon AT4 and Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro are both full-size, three-row SUVs with factory off-road equipment. Their strongest differences are not the badges: the GMC offers an eight-seat possibility and electronically controlled damping, while the Toyota combines a hybrid powertrain, rear locker and TRD Pro-specific FOX suspension in a seven-seat configuration.
This comparison covers the 2026 regular-length Yukon AT4 with the standard 5.3-litre V8 and the 2026 Sequoia TRD Pro. It excludes Yukon XL and AT4 Ultimate. Verified Canadian 2026 specifications are used rather than carrying them into 2027: Toyota has already announced meaningful 2027 changes, but a complete Canadian 2027 TRD Pro configuration and pricing were not established in the sources checked. GMC’s detailed Canadian AT4 reference also remains 2026.
The short answer
Choose the Yukon AT4 if passenger flexibility and its particular suspension and comfort package fit your household. Choose the Sequoia TRD Pro if you want Toyota’s hybrid powertrain and its specific factory trail hardware without choosing a separate engine. Neither is an automatic winner for every family trip, and the hybrid badge is not proof that fuel savings will recover any purchase-price premium.
Suspension: do not confuse AT4 with AT4 Ultimate
GMC lists Magnetic Ride Control as standard on AT4. Four-corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and Active Response 4WD are available features, not universal equipment on the basic AT4. The trim also has 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, a front skid plate and recovery hooks. This distinction matters when comparing a base quote with an optioned demonstration vehicle. GMC Canada’s 2026 AT4 and AT4 Ultimate information.
The Sequoia TRD Pro uses 2.5-inch FOX internal-bypass front coil-overs and rear remote-reservoir shocks, with a 1.1-inch front lift. It includes a locking rear differential, skid plate and 18-inch forged BBS wheels. Toyota’s Canadian package summary specifies 285/65R18 tires. These are substantive equipment differences from choosing a luxury trim with rugged-looking wheels. Canadian 2026 Sequoia product summary, TRD Pro package.
The systems have different designs and priorities, but a specification list does not establish which rides better on your roads. Drive the actual tire and suspension configuration you would order. A brief trip over smooth pavement is a poor substitute for the broken surfaces, parking ramps and access roads that form part of your normal use. Do not import the forthcoming 2027 Toyota suspension description into the 2026 vehicle.
V8 choice versus a standard hybrid powertrain
The Yukon AT4’s Canadian engine choices include the 5.3-litre V8 used here, with the 6.2-litre V8 and 3.0-litre Duramax diesel available. Selecting either alternative changes the purchase and operating-cost calculation. The Sequoia TRD Pro uses Toyota’s twin-turbo V6 i-FORCE MAX hybrid system, rated at 437 system horsepower and 583 lb-ft, paired with a ten-speed automatic. This is a gasoline-electric hybrid, not a plug-in SUV.
That means the Sequoia does not require charging at home to use its hybrid system. It also does not mean every journey will deliver a particular fuel saving. The useful comparison is an exact engine-and-trim fuel label and your annual driving pattern, not the lowest figure found elsewhere in either model range. A diesel Yukon’s economy figure cannot be attached to a 5.3-litre quote.
Seven seats, eight seats and everyday cabin use
GMC advertises seating for up to eight in AT4; confirm whether the quoted vehicle has a second-row bench or captain’s chairs. Toyota specifies seven seats for TRD Pro, with second-row captain’s chairs. If the household genuinely needs eight seating positions, that is a decisive distinction before considering horsepower or audio upgrades.
Both offer heated and ventilated front seats. GMC’s AT4 information also specifies heated second-row outboard seating. Toyota equips TRD Pro with a heated steering wheel, a 14-inch multimedia screen and 14-speaker JBL audio. Do not substitute the heated and ventilated rear-seat specification from a Sequoia Platinum or Capstone into the TRD Pro.
For families, the more useful showroom test is a loaded one. Install the child seats you use, check access to the third row and try the normal luggage behind it. Moving or folding seats can change the apparent cargo advantage while removing passenger space. If all seats are regularly occupied, no expensive convenience package compensates for luggage that will not fit safely.
Canadian price reference and the cost of matching equipment
Toyota Canada’s Ontario configurator, checked October 31, 2026, gives an MSRP-plus-package total of C$101,258 for the 2026 Sequoia TRD Pro. This is the seven-seat TRD Pro package within the Limited range, not the eight-seat Nightshade configuration. Delivery, dealer and regulatory fees, any applicable luxury surcharge, sales tax, licensing, registration, insurance, added accessories and protection plans are extra. This is not an all-in purchase price or a guarantee of stock.
A comparable current Yukon AT4 quote is still needed before declaring a price winner. Keep the engine, seating layout, suspension, trailering equipment and convenience options visible on that quote. An AT4 with air suspension and additional technology is not the same purchase as the standard 5.3-litre AT4; an AT4 Ultimate is a separate trim altogether.
For ownership sensitivity, every verified 1 L/100 km difference at 20,000 km annually equals 200 litres. At an assumed $1.70 per litre, that is $340 per year. This is a budgeting tool, not a claimed consumption gap between these two vehicles. A $5,000 difference in purchase cost would require $1,000 in average annual savings over five years to recover before financing and resale effects. Use your actual price difference, insurance quotes and fuel grades rather than assuming the hybrid pays for itself.
Towing and the 2027 decision
Before matching a trailer, obtain the exact vehicle’s trailering information and load label. Occupants, luggage, fitted accessories and trailer tongue weight all use carrying capacity. The number of seats and an advertised tow ceiling do not guarantee that a fully occupied SUV can simultaneously tow at its maximum. Off-road suspension equipment is not a substitute for checking those limits. For the 2026 Sequoia, Toyota Canada requires a weight-distributing hitch with sufficient capacity when gross trailer weight exceeds 5,000 lb (2,268 kg). Follow the vehicle and hitch instructions and stay within every applicable weight rating.
Toyota’s Canadian 2027 announcement identifies revised TRD Pro shocks and newer safety and multimedia technology. Buyers deciding between available 2026 stock and waiting should price that decision separately; this article does not describe 2026 equipment as unchanged for 2027. Toyota’s announced 2027 Sequoia changes.
The final choice
Watch Jason’s 2026 GMC Yukon AT4 review. The filmed engine and installed options may differ from the base specification compared here.
Use the vehicle ownership budget worksheet to separate purchase price, fuel assumptions, insurance and tire costs. The GMC’s case is passenger and configuration flexibility with standard Magnetic Ride Control. The Toyota’s case is its defined seven-seat hybrid and trail-equipment package. Choose the one whose actual build answers your needs, not the one with the longest list of available features.
