The 2027 Ram 2500 Laramie and Ford F-250 Lariat sit where heavy-duty capability meets a more comfortable daily cabin. Their similar positions in the range do not mean their assistance features or upgrade packages match. For Canadian shoppers, the clearest distinction is which conveniences are included before the larger option groups are added.
This comparison focuses on Crew Cab 4×4 pickups with their standard gasoline powertrains: Ram’s 6.4-litre HEMI and Ford’s 7.3-litre V8. It is not a diesel towing comparison. The equipment analysis uses Canadian manufacturer documentation and distinguishes a configured inventory truck from the base trim. No first-hand road-test impressions are claimed.

Laramie: adaptive cruise without assuming the biggest screen
A Canadian 2027 Laramie manufacturer sticker separates the trim’s standard equipment from a diesel, Night Edition and Level 2 Plus build. The standard column includes adaptive cruise with Stop, heated front seats and steering wheel, power adjustment for both front occupants, dual-zone climate control, 12-inch centre and instrument displays, nine-speaker Alpine audio, LED projector headlights, blind-spot monitoring and front/rear parking sensors. FCA Canada Laramie window sticker.
That document is not used as a gas-truck price or capacity example: its installed engine is the optional diesel. It is useful because the standard and optional columns are explicit. Its larger 14.4-inch display, 17-speaker audio and dual wireless charging are part of Level 2 Plus, not equipment to assign automatically to every Laramie.
Ask the dealer to quote the exact package you need. A photograph of a Night Edition truck can make the wheels, cabin and technology look like the ordinary starting specification when several upgrades are doing the work. The appearance package itself is not a towing-capacity increase.
Lariat: cameras and ventilated fronts, but check adaptive cruise
Ford Canada lists a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, heated/ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate, power-folding/extending towing mirrors, 12-inch centre and instrument displays and eight-speaker B&O audio on the Lariat. Adaptive cruise and Pro Trailer Hitch/Backup Assist appear as options. Ford Canada’s 2027 F-250 Lariat guide.
This is a practical distinction for buyers who regularly manoeuvre in tight yards or use adaptive cruise on longer journeys. Decide which functions you need before comparing the trim names. A standard camera system is not the same as every available trailer-assistance function being included.
The Canadian Ford page contains inconsistent upholstery descriptions, so this article does not declare a leather-versus-synthetic winner. Confirm the actual seat material and layout on the order. Likewise, absence of a feature from a short Ram sticker summary is not enough to declare that it cannot be fitted.
How to test the features that drive the purchase
If cameras are a priority, inspect the image and camera controls in conditions similar to your own driveway or worksite. Check how easily you can select the view you need while staying attentive to the surroundings. An impressive list of views does not remove the need to look around the truck and trailer.
If seat comfort is the priority, spend time in both front seats. Evaluate support, steering reach and the position of frequently used controls. Heated or ventilated seating is useful only within a cabin that fits you; it cannot correct a seat shape you find uncomfortable.
For towing mirrors, test the adjustment and folding operation on the actual truck. Confirm visibility with the trailer you intend to use. A mirror’s power functions and a blind-spot system are separate features, and the selected trailer configuration can affect how assistance systems operate.
Standard gas engines, not optional diesel headlines
Ram Canada identifies its 6.4-litre gas V8 as standard for Crew Cab models and lists 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft with an eight-speed automatic. Ford’s 2027 Lariat lists the standard 7.3-litre at 420 horsepower and 445 lb-ft with a ten-speed automatic. Ram Canada capability; Ford Canada Lariat.
Those numbers describe engines, not a verified towing contest. Do not borrow a maximum from a diesel, a regular cab or a one-ton truck. The correct question is whether the selected gas Crew Cab, axle and equipment package meet your trailer and carrying requirements.
Get the exact build’s ratings, and inspect the loading and certification labels on an inventory vehicle. Account for occupants, tools, cargo, accessories and hitch weight, including the trailer load carried by the truck. Higher trim equipment does not increase the amount of useful load you can assume remains.
Make the two quotes comparable
Begin with the features that change your daily use: camera coverage, adaptive cruise, seat functions, towing mirrors and the desired hitch equipment. Obtain a complete build for each with those requirements met. Then compare the final prices using the same treatment of freight, fees, tax and installed accessories.
Keep optional diesel power, appearance packages and luxury upgrades outside the initial comparison unless you genuinely need them. If you later add them, revisit the ratings and price rather than assuming the earlier gas configuration still describes the purchase.
No price or fuel-economy winner is declared without comparable configured offers and usage evidence. Heavy-duty running costs should be planned around the actual workload, maintenance requirements and tyre specification, not a fuel figure borrowed from a lighter pickup.
Verdict
The Laramie is a logical starting point if its documented standard adaptive cruise and cabin equipment align with your requirements. The Lariat deserves close attention if included surround-view cameras, ventilated front seats and powered towing mirrors are higher priorities. The better value is the completed configuration that does the job—not whichever trim sounds more luxurious.
For Laramie and Lariat, separate included cabin features from the packages required to match your preferred equipment. Our guide to comparing complete vehicle quotes can help organize that comparison.
