An occasional eighth passenger can settle this comparison before horsepower or screen size enters the conversation. The Canadian 2026 Honda Pilot Touring offers that extra position; the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse RS commits to seven seats and makes Super Cruise part of its equipment package.
This is a Canadian specification-based buying comparison, not a back-to-back road test. The useful question is which layout and equipment solve your family’s actual trips. Manufacturer specifications were checked on October 30, 2026; price references are dated below.

Exterior: the RS makes a stronger visual statement
The Traverse RS pairs its 22-inch black wheels with a blacked-out grille and roof rails. The Pilot Touring uses 20-inch machine-finished wheels with Pewter Grey accents. Wheel size alone does not settle ride comfort or replacement-tire cost, so compare the actual tire packages. Chevrolet’s RS equipment and Honda’s Touring specifications identify the standard wheels.
Interior and seating: start with your busiest trip
Both trims include heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row outboard seats, a heated steering wheel and three-zone automatic climate control. The Pilot Touring adds perforated leather with faux-suede accents; the RS has perforated leather-appointed seating with Torch Red accents.
Write down your busiest realistic trip, including grandparents, another child’s friend or a carpool passenger. If that trip needs eight belted positions, the Pilot Touring stays on the shortlist and this Traverse RS does not. Counting the seats you normally use can hide the one trip that forces a second vehicle.
If seven positions are sufficient, test the second-row arrangement with the people who will actually use it. Bring the child restraints, check the designated anchor locations in the manuals and try third-row entry without assuming a seat can move while a restraint is installed. Consider who will climb into the back when the weather is poor and everyone is wearing winter clothing.
Cargo access and folding seats
The Traverse RS supplies a power-folding 60/40 third row. Honda lists a flat-folding 60/40 third row and a removable second-row centre seat for Touring. The Chevrolet’s powered folding is convenient when changing the load area; the Honda’s removable centre position gives you a different way to switch between passenger arrangements.
For luggage, use the cabin in that same occupied configuration. A seats-folded cargo maximum cannot answer whether your stroller and weekend bags fit behind the passengers. Take those items to both appointments, close the tailgate and check that the load can be secured without obstructing a safe view. A verified like-for-like cargo measurement is needed before declaring a volume winner.
Super Cruise or the extra seating flexibility?
Chevrolet lists the Enhanced Driving Package with Super Cruise and a three-year trial as standard on RS. Operation is limited to compatible roads, with an attentive driver and the applicable active service. Check your usual routes and renewal terms before paying for equipment you expect to use. Chevrolet’s 2026 feature information explains the package and limitations.
For a family repeatedly making long trips on supported roads, that is a concrete reason to inspect the RS. It is not a substitute for a test drive or a promise that the vehicle drives itself. For a household whose bigger problem is changing passenger counts, seating flexibility is more useful than another assistance feature.
Infotainment: more than the centre screen
Beyond the 12.3-inch Honda and 17.7-inch Chevrolet touchscreens, the Pilot has a 10.2-inch instrument display and the Traverse an 11-inch Driver Information Centre. Both trims include 12-speaker Bose audio and wireless phone charging for compatible devices. Speaker count does not establish sound quality, and a charging pad does not guarantee that every phone or case will work.
Try navigation, climate adjustments and reversing-camera views while parked. Ask the dealer to demonstrate the functions you use with your own phone. A larger screen is easy to compare on paper; legibility, reach and the steps needed for a familiar task are personal checks.
Equal towing headlines, different shopping lists
Honda’s 5,000-lb claim requires an extra-cost accessory towing package. Chevrolet includes its Trailering Package. The Pilot quote therefore needs the required towing hardware priced before the two purchase totals are compared. Honda’s towing footnote and Chevrolet’s towing information are the relevant starting points.
Take the trailer’s loaded specification to the dealer, not just its empty weight. Ask for confirmation of the vehicle’s permitted loading, hitch and wiring, brake requirements and tongue-weight limits. Family members, luggage and accessories all need to fit within the actual vehicle’s allowances. Matching maximum tow ratings do not prove that either build suits your particular loaded trip.
Do not let a tiny fuel-rating gap make the decision
Using the combined ratings above, 20,000 km implies about 2,240 litres for the Pilot and 2,220 for the Traverse: a difference of only 20 litres a year. At an illustrative C$1.60/L, that is C$32. This is our arithmetic from standardized ratings, not observed consumption or a fuel-price forecast. NRCan explains how the ratings are produced.
That small planning difference is a poor reason to compromise the seating arrangement you need. Price the replacement tires, winter setup, insurance and finance terms as well. Cold starts, idling, towing and a different driving mix can change your real fuel bill.
Canadian pricing: compare the same subtotal
At the time of writing, October 31, 2026, Honda Canada’s configurator showed the 2026 Pilot Touring at C$65,000 MSRP with no-charge paint and no added accessories. This excludes freight/PDI, fees, taxes, licensing and insurance; required towing accessories are extra. MSRP is a vehicle-price reference, not an all-in purchase quote.
Checked October 31, 2026, Chevrolet Canada’s 2026 Traverse RS AWD configurator showed a C$67,799 standard vehicle price and C$71,042.50 displayed pre-tax total (Ontario) after C$2,400 freight, C$100 air-conditioning charge, C$699 dealer fees, C$22 OMVIC and C$22.50 tire handling. This is an Ontario configuration illustration, not a nationwide quotation or a guaranteed transaction price. Chevrolet Canada build summary.
Compare the Honda MSRP with the Chevrolet standard vehicle price; the Chevrolet total above also includes the listed fees. Get two written quotes on the same day, using the same province, required accessories, taxes and trade-in treatment. Put cash price, borrowing cost and optional products on separate lines. A lower payment can conceal a longer loan or a larger down payment.
Which one would make more sense for your family?
- Shortlist the Pilot Touring first if an eighth position is a genuine requirement or you want to assess its removable-centre-seat arrangement. Include the necessary towing accessories in the quote if you plan to tow.
- Shortlist the Traverse RS first if seven seats are enough and supported-road hands-free assistance is a feature you specifically want. Confirm the service terms rather than treating the trial as a lifetime inclusion.
- Choose neither yet if your restraints, luggage or loaded trailer have not been checked. Those tests can overturn a paper specification preference.
