The 2023 Honda Passport TrailSport sits in the middle of Canada’s Passport range. It is worth examining if you want the two-row SUV’s passenger and cargo layout with the TrailSport look and cabin equipment, without automatically moving to the more expensive Touring.

Models available and powertrain
Canada’s 2023 trims are Sport, TrailSport and Touring. All have a 3.5L V6 rated at 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft, a nine-speed automatic and i-VTM4 all-wheel drive. Moving to TrailSport does not buy more engine power. Honda Canada’s 2023 specification sheet.
All three trims share the same engine and AWD system, so the choice comes down to their equipment and styling differences.
What TrailSport brings
The Canadian sheet lists TrailSport leather-trimmed seating, heated outboard second-row seats and 18-inch wheels. Importantly, its original tyre specification is all-season, not a claim that every 2023 TrailSport has the later model’s all-terrain hardware. Canadian trim and tyre details.
Check the tyres actually installed on a used example. Their condition and suitability for your driving matter more than a trim name. If your plans involve rough roads, identify the terrain and load first, then assess the actual vehicle and equipment rather than assuming an outdoors-oriented badge answers every capability question.
Cabin technology and convenience
The TrailSport’s equipment should be compared with Touring before paying for the upper trim. Honda’s Canadian chart places ventilated front seats and integrated navigation on Touring; it does not make them standard TrailSport features. Equipment comparison.
Try your usual phone connection and navigation workflow before buying. Check that climate controls and seat adjustments are easy to reach, then test rear-seat comfort with the front seats positioned for the regular occupants. Make a list of the features you genuinely use so a long sales description does not distract from missing essentials.
Passenger space and cargo
The Passport is a two-row choice, so compare it on the space available with all passengers aboard rather than against a three-row SUV with its rear seats folded. Bring your stroller, sports bags or other regular cargo to a viewing. Check loading height and liftgate clearance in the places you will use them.
If child seats are part of the routine, install them during your assessment and check access to buckles and doors. For a household sharing the vehicle, both drivers should try their preferred seat positions. These checks are more useful than assuming that a large exterior automatically means the right interior layout.
Fuel consumption and towing
| 2023 Passport AWD | City | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| L/100 km | 12.5 | 9.8 | 11.3 |
Source: NRCan 2023 ratings. These are standardized figures, not results from our video. At 20,000 km annually, the combined rating equates to approximately 2,260 litres, with actual use depending on conditions.
Honda lists 1,588 kg or an available 2,268 kg towing rating and specifies an accessory towing package requirement. Have the retailer confirm the equipment and applicable limit for the exact vehicle, then account for passengers, cargo and trailer tongue weight. Do not assume the higher figure from the trim badge alone. Towing specifications and footnote.
Canadian trim comparison and pricing
Historical 2023 Canadian starting-price references checked October 29, 2026. These dealer research pages list the same three base figures; they are not current offers or the price of the review vehicle. Treat freight/PDI, dealer charges, taxes, licensing and options separately; the pages do not provide a complete transaction quote or original price-effective date.
| Trim | CAD starting reference | Difference from TrailSport | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sport | $47,090 | Save $4,000 | Same powertrain/AWD with a lower-cost equipment mix |
| TrailSport | $51,090 | Reference | TrailSport seating and appearance; heated outer rear seats |
| Touring | $53,790 | Add $2,700 | Ventilated front seats and integrated navigation |
Price references: GP Honda and Bannister Honda. Equipment: Honda Canada.
TrailSport is worth the middle step if its particular cabin and styling changes appeal to you. Touring is only $2,700 higher on this historical base-price comparison, so it deserves a direct look if ventilation or built-in navigation is important. Sport remains relevant when you mainly need the shared engine, AWD and two-row layout.
Competition and buying verdict
Compare the Subaru Outback and two-row Jeep Grand Cherokee using the same passenger, luggage and equipment checklist. The Passport TrailSport is a sensible candidate when its layout and features fit your life. Judge the specific 2023 vehicle on its condition and specification, not on expectations created by a newer TrailSport.
