The 2024 cabin update

The same listing describes additional convenience, technology and off-road packages; do not treat every feature shown on that example as universal LTZ equipment.

Gasoline and diesel choices

GM’s Canadian 2024 fleet guide specifies a 6.6-litre gasoline V8 at 401 hp and 464 lb-ft, and a 6.6-litre Duramax diesel V8 at 470 hp and 975 lb-ft. Both use an Allison ten-speed automatic. Canadian HD powertrain specifications.

The identical displacement does not identify fuel type. Confirm the engine on the actual truck and compare service history and ownership costs. Do not assume LTZ means diesel, or transfer the engine specification from a Silverado 1500 with the same trim name.

Towing and payload

Passengers, tools, accessories and hitch or pin weight all contribute to loading. A higher trim does not automatically provide a higher usable payload. Avoid using a 3500HD maximum, and do not substitute a gooseneck capacity for a conventional-trailer rating.

Fuel and ownership

Light-duty Silverado fuel-consumption ratings do not apply to the HD truck. NRCan explains that some heavy pickups are outside mandatory fuel-consumption testing. Canadian testing coverage.
