AT4 equipment: look beyond the badge
A Canadian 2024 AT4 equipment listing documents the X31 package with hill-descent control, skid plates, off-road suspension and twin-tube Rancho shocks. Canadian AT4 equipment example. This is not evidence of AT4X equipment or of a factory lift carried over from a Sierra 1500.
Ask the retailer to identify the installed hardware on the particular truck. Inspect the underside and tires on a used example, and check for modifications rather than assuming its current suspension still matches its original build.
Gasoline or Duramax diesel
The Canadian 2024 fleet guide lists the HD range’s 6.6-litre gasoline V8 at 401 hp and 464 lb-ft, and the 6.6-litre Duramax diesel at 470 hp and 975 lb-ft. Both use an Allison ten-speed automatic. GM Canadian engine specifications. Engine availability and the installed configuration must be distinguished.
The shared displacement can be misleading in advertisements. Confirm fuel type, engine code and service history before comparing offers. A diesel truck and a gasoline truck should not be treated as identically configured examples simply because both say 6.6 litres.
Cabin and technology
The Canadian AT4 equipment example lists a 13.4-inch centre touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital driver display. Canadian cabin specification. Treat other photographed conveniences as equipment to verify, not proof that every AT4 has the same options.
Sit in both rows and try the controls while parked. Check the actual camera, roof, seat and tailgate options against the build sheet. If you carry work gear, assess where it will go without obstructing the cabin or interfering with passenger space.
Towing and payload
Use the exact 2500HD configuration and individual loading label when selecting a trailer. A Sierra 3500HD maximum is not a 2500HD rating, and a fifth-wheel or gooseneck figure is not automatically the conventional-trailer limit.
GMC’s Canadian announcement qualifies its capability figures by cab, drivetrain, equipment and hitch type. Manufacturer trailering qualifications. Count occupants, accessories, luggage and hitch or pin weight together. Ask for the matching documentation before making a trailer purchase.
Fuel and ownership planning
No light-duty Sierra L/100 km rating is assigned to this HD truck. The NRCan guide explains that certain heavy pickups fall outside mandatory fuel-consumption reporting. Canadian testing coverage. Light-duty figures are not a substitute for an HD fuel budget.

Who should consider it?
AT4 makes sense to investigate when its off-road equipment is useful to your work or recreation. If cabin finish is the main priority, compare Denali. If you need more specialized trail hardware, examine the distinct AT4X specification instead of assuming AT4 already includes it.
