The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 is aimed at buyers who want more specialized off-road hardware than the LT Trail Boss provides. Its locking differentials and suspension are more meaningful distinctions than the badge or exterior trim alone.

What makes ZR2 different
The Canadian 2024 model listing identifies Multimatic DSSV dampers and electronically locking front and rear differentials. Canadian 2024 ZR2 equipment section. The separate Canadian catalogue confirms driver-operated front and rear locks and a two-speed transfer case. ZR2 mechanical equipment.
These systems should be understood before use. Ask for a demonstration of the controls and read the appropriate operating instructions; the presence of off-road equipment does not remove the need to assess the trail, ground conditions and recovery plan.
Diesel or gasoline
For 2024, the Canadian catalogue lists the 3.0-litre Duramax diesel as standard and the 6.2-litre gasoline V8 as optional. Canadian engine availability. GM’s Canadian fleet guide rates those engines at 305 hp/495 lb-ft and 420 hp/460 lb-ft respectively, each with a ten-speed automatic. Exact-year output specifications.
Comfort and optional equipment
ZR2’s Canadian catalogue includes ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, Bose audio and the 13.4-inch centre display. Bison equipment, a sunroof and Multi-Flex tailgate are listed separately as options. Standard and optional ZR2 equipment. A ZR2 badge alone therefore does not establish that a truck is a Bison.
Towing and loading
The exact truck’s loading label and matching trailering documentation should guide a trailer purchase. Cab, bed, engine, axle ratio, passengers, accessories and hitch weight all matter. Do not assign the Silverado range’s headline towing maximum to this trim without verifying the individual configuration.
If considering the 6.2-litre V8, ask GM to check the VIN and completed repairs for Transport Canada recall 2025225. Certain 2024 Silverados with that engine can suffer engine failure and loss of drive power because of defective connecting-rod or crankshaft components. Confirm the required dealer inspection and remedy. This recall does not cover diesel or smaller gasoline engines; model year or the ZR2 badge alone does not prove a truck is affected.
Canadian fuel economy
NRCan lists separate 2024 ZR2 rows: the 3.0-litre diesel is rated at 11.9 city, 10.8 highway and 11.4 combined L/100 km; the 6.2-litre gasoline version is 16.8, 14.1 and 15.6 respectively. Neither should be replaced by an ordinary Silverado 4WD or mud-terrain-tire row. NRCan 2024 fuel-consumption guide.
Canadian trim comparison and pricing
Current Canadian manufacturer pricing for these exact 2024 Crew Cab short-box 4WD configurations has not been verified as of October 31, 2026. Vehicle prices and price differences are omitted; powertrains and equipment differ between the rows.
| 2024 trim | What changes |
|---|---|
| LT Trail Boss | 2-inch factory lift and automatic rear locker, rather than ZR2’s front/rear e-lockers. |
| High Country | Premium leather and open-pore wood interior; available Super Cruise. |
| ZR2 | Diesel base engine, DSSV dampers, front/rear e-lockers and 33-inch mud-terrain tires. |
Optional packages remain separate from the base configurations shown above.
High Country prioritizes a different package of comfort and appearance features. Choose ZR2 for its additional off-road equipment only if that hardware fits your use; these are not matched-engine configurations.
Who should consider it?
Consider ZR2 when its specialized off-road systems solve an actual requirement. If you mainly want the look of an off-road truck, first compare LT Trail Boss. If interior finish matters more than trail hardware, compare High Country before spending more.
