A Kia electric sedan can overlap a Mercedes on price without offering the same equipment mix. The useful Canadian comparison here is the 2027 Kia EV4 GT AWD versus the 2027 Mercedes-Benz CLA 350 4MATIC Electric with its included Premium package. Both are AWD electric sedans; neither is the least expensive version in its range. This is not a comparison with the rear-wheel-drive CLA 250+ or the lower-output EV4 GT-Line.
The decision in one paragraph
The EV4 GT makes sense for a buyer who wants its equipment and GT presentation in one specified trim. The CLA 350 deserves a look if higher rated output and its longer published range estimate matter more than having every available cabin feature in the starting package. Do not assume the Mercedes costs more merely because of the badge: the Canadian base MSRP comparison goes the other way.
Prices need matching packages, not just matching monthly payments
Kia’s Canadian 2027 specification-page data lists $58,595 MSRP for GT AWD. Mercedes-Benz Canada lists $55,900 MSRP for CLA 350 4MATIC Electric. That puts the Kia $2,695 higher on MSRP before freight, fees, taxes, options or any negotiated offer. This is a dated manufacturer-price comparison, checked October 30, 2026—not a claim about a dealer’s final transaction price. Kia Canada’s 2027 EV4 specifications and trim data.
Mercedes separately advertises $61,987 including its stated freight/PDI and applicable fees; taxes, insurance, registration and other exclusions remain. Do not compare that fee-inclusive number directly against Kia’s MSRP. Ask both dealers for itemized cash quotes, then compare financing separately. A lower monthly payment can reflect a longer term rather than a lower price.
Where the equipment changes the answer
The Kia GT’s Canadian trim data lists 20-inch GT-design wheels, suede/synthetic-leather seats and a head-up display. Mercedes includes a fixed panoramic sunroof, power front seats with memory and a heated steering wheel in Premium. A head-up display and 360-degree parking assistance are included in the extra-cost Pinnacle package; neither is standard in the Premium configuration compared here.
Checked October 31, 2026, Mercedes-Benz Canada’s CLA 350 configurator lists Exclusive at an additional C$3,100 and Pinnacle at C$4,900. The C$55,900 base plus the listed Pinnacle charge totals C$60,800 before other options, delivery, fees and taxes—C$2,205 above the Kia MSRP dated October 30 above. No registration province was selected for this package-price check, so this is not a provincial drive-away quote. Confirm any required option combinations in the completed build; the two equipment packages are not identical.
AWD does not make the powertrains interchangeable
Kia specifies 288 horsepower and 345 lb-ft for GT AWD, with an 81.4-kWh battery. The Canadian CLA 350 model page lists 349 horsepower, 380 lb-ft, an 85-kWh battery and a two-speed transmission. These are manufacturer specifications, not our instrumented performance results. Neither power output nor battery size alone establishes efficiency, ride comfort or how the cars respond on the same road. Canadian CLA 350 4MATIC Electric specifications.
The GT badge is also not the same as GT-Line. Kia’s Canadian AWD overview distinguishes the GT powertrain from the regular AWD trims. Use the exact GT AWD order sheet when comparing a quote or a demonstrator; a dealer listing that simply says “EV4 AWD” is not sufficiently precise. Kia Canada’s 2027 AWD trim overview.
Range and charging: compare the trip, not the biggest number
Kia lists 431 km for EV4 GT AWD. Mercedes publishes up to 502 km for CLA 350 4MATIC, identified as a manufacturer estimate using NRCan-approved methods. The published figures favour the CLA, but they are not a same-day Canadian winter test. Do not substitute the longer-range CLA 250+ or a different EV4 trim to improve either side of this comparison.
The CLA model page lists a maximum 320-kW DC charging rate and an estimated 22-minute 10–80-percent charging time. Those are suitable-condition figures, not a promise at every station. Kia identifies 400-volt fast charging for GT AWD; its table’s reference to a 350-kW charging station should not be read as a 350-kW vehicle acceptance rate. This article does not infer a charging-speed tie from station labels or declare a fixed number of minutes saved on every journey.
For a repeated route, check compatible chargers, practical spacing, backup stops and expected arrival charge. A high peak power figure matters less if the only convenient charger cannot deliver it. At home, obtain an electrical-installation quote and confirm the connector, equipment and charging capacity for the delivered vehicle. A showroom range figure cannot answer those installation questions.
Ownership costs that can reverse a purchase-price advantage
Without comparable verified energy-consumption figures for these exact Canadian configurations, there is no defensible annual electricity-cost winner here. Use measured or properly rated energy use, include charging losses and separate home charging from public fast charging. The home/public split can matter more than a small difference in the electricity used by the cars.
Get insurance quotes for the two exact models and price a suitable winter wheel-and-tire setup before signing. The Kia’s GT wheels are part of its specification, not evidence that replacement tires will cost less or more than the particular CLA setup you order. Likewise, do not turn a brand reputation into a guaranteed resale prediction. Use the vehicle quote and total-cost guide to compare the same ownership period and payment assumptions.
What to watch and test in person
Watch Jason’s 2027 Mercedes CLA 350 EV review. The filmed option package may differ from the Premium configuration compared here.
Test the rear-seat fit, visibility, seat comfort and everyday screen controls with your normal passengers. Choose the Kia if its specific GT equipment is worth the price to you. Choose the CLA if its powertrain and published range advantages address your driving needs without forcing you into options you do not want. Neither conclusion requires assuming a luxury badge is automatically better—or automatically more expensive.
