The 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport Premium sits at the well-equipped end of the non-hybrid Sport range. The most useful comparison is not simply Tacoma versus another truck: it is Sport Premium versus the less expensive Sport and Sport+ configurations, with the same cab, bed and transmission.

Models available
Canada’s TRD Sport Premium is a six-foot-bed Double Cab, not a manual or hybrid configuration. Toyota Canada’s 2024 announcement.
Engine and transmission
The non-hybrid 2.4-litre turbo four-cylinder pairs with an eight-speed automatic, rated at 278 hp and 317 lb-ft. Canadian powertrain specification.
When shopping used, verify the exact grade and transmission rather than relying on a short advertisement. Canadian and American package names can differ, and “TRD Sport” alone does not establish the Premium equipment level.
Interior and technology
Sport Premium adds SofTex upholstery, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a 14-inch screen, panoramic-view monitoring and a 400-watt outlet over Sport+. Premium equipment details.
Fuel economy
Toyota Canada’s 2024 product summary lists TRD Sport Premium at 12.4 L/100 km city, 10.2 highway and 11.4 combined. These exact-trim figures match NRCan’s three-mode automatic Tacoma 4WD row, rather than its separate two-mode reference. Toyota Canada’s 2024 Tacoma Gas product summary, page 3.
| 2024 non-hybrid automatic configuration | City L/100 km | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tacoma TRD Sport Premium | 12.4 | 10.2 | 11.4 |
At an illustrative 20,000 km a year, the 11.4 L/100 km combined rating represents 2,280 litres. That calculation excludes fuel-price assumptions; winter conditions, idling, loading and towing can change actual consumption.
Towing, bed and payload checks
Before choosing a trailer, use the specific truck’s ratings and payload label. Include passengers, cargo, accessories and tongue weight. Do not apply the maximum for the entire Tacoma range to an individual truck without checking its configuration.
For the bed, measure what you actually carry and consider how a cover or other accessory changes access. Check garage clearance with the tailgate closed and confirm that a longer load can be secured properly. Payload and usable space are separate questions.
Canadian trim comparison
Canadian launch MSRPs from November 28, 2023; checked October 29, 2026. Six-foot non-hybrid automatics; freight, taxes and fees excluded. Original Canadian pricing.
| 2024 grade | Launch MSRP | Difference from Premium | Equipment step |
|---|---|---|---|
| TRD Sport | $50,050 | $8,100 less | Sport-tuned suspension |
| TRD Sport+ | $54,450 | $3,700 less | Adds moonroof, JBL audio and power seats |
| TRD Sport Premium | $58,150 | Reference | SofTex, front ventilation, dual-zone climate, 14-inch screen and panoramic-view monitor |
The $3,700 step from Sport+ is the most direct value question if you already want its equipment. Decide which Premium additions you will use, then compare complete quotes. Used asking prices also reflect kilometres, condition, accessories and service history, not just original trim differences.
Is Sport Premium worth considering?
Sport Premium makes sense to compare when cabin equipment matters as much as having a pickup bed. It is not automatically the right choice merely because it sits above Sport+. A lower grade that meets your requirements may leave more room in the budget for maintenance and the accessories you actually need.
Frequently asked questions
What should I verify on a used truck?
Confirm the equipment list, maintenance records, condition and any outstanding recall work.
Ask Toyota to check the VIN for Transport Canada recall 2025363. It includes certain 2024 Tacoma 4WD trucks with 16-inch brakes and 17- or 18-inch Toyota wheels. Rear brake hoses can become damaged and leak, reducing braking; the repair replaces those hoses. This campaign replaces recall 2025051, but vehicles repaired under that earlier recall do not need this repair. Confirm applicability and repair history for the individual truck.
Are the prices out-the-door totals?
No. They are original base MSRPs before freight, fees and taxes.
