The A6 Technik makes a strong case for passengers in the back: its documented Canadian equipment includes heated rear seats and four-zone climate control. The E 450 counters with standard Burmester audio, a 360-degree camera and a flexible split-folding rear seat. Both bring six-cylinder power and all-wheel drive, but the equipment you actually order matters more than the small horsepower gap.
The cars compared here are the Canadian 2026 Audi A6 Sedan Technik TFSI quattro S tronic and 2027 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4MATIC Sedan. Audi VIN WAU65CFN0TN029020 provides the specific equipment example. This is a different-model-year comparison of two gasoline sedans, not a comparison with the electric A6 Sportback e-tron.
Engines and transmissions: V6 or mild-hybrid inline-six
Audi Canada’s 2026 A6 page specifies a turbocharged V6 producing 362 hp and 406 lb-ft, quattro AWD and a seven-speed S tronic transmission. Mercedes-Benz Canada’s 2027 E 450 page describes an inline-six with mild-hybrid assistance, with the gasoline engine rated at 375 hp and 369 lb-ft. Do not simply add the advertised temporary electric-assistance figure to the engine rating and call it a continuously available combined output.
The Mercedes uses a 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic, rather than the Audi’s 7-speed S tronic. Gear count and peak output do not tell you how smoothly a car creeps through traffic or responds during a merge; those are useful priorities for a back-to-back drive.
Interior comfort: the back seat changes the comparison
The Canadian Technik inventory equipment list specifies leather seating, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats and four-zone automatic climate control. The E 450’s Canadian equipment data lists heated and ventilated front seats, leather and a panoramic roof as standard, while rear-seat heating is optional. A household regularly carrying adults in back should make that option visible in the Mercedes quote.
The Audi’s four-zone arrangement is a meaningful equipment difference from the E 450’s standard THERMATIC dual-zone climate control. Mercedes also lists front-seat memory and four-way lumbar support as standard. Its leather specification covers the seat inserts, with ARTICO on the side trim, bolsters and head restraints; “leather” should not be read as every seating surface.
For regular rear passengers, compare the seating position behind your normal front-seat setting, foot space and access to the heating and climate controls. The Audi’s extra rear comfort equipment is useful only if the seat itself fits the people who will use it.
The E 450 lists its 360-degree camera and DISTRONIC as standard. Audi’s national A6 page describes top-view cameras and adaptive cruise assistance as available across the range. For the selected Technik, the final build sheet—not a model-wide highlight—settles the included systems and package dependencies.
Exterior, wheels and ride: compare the actual builds
The Audi’s exterior combines flush door handles and a continuous rear LED light bar; OLED rear lights are available. The E 450’s Canadian specification lists standard 18-inch wheels with 225/55R18 all-season runflat tires. That is a starting configuration, not proof that every Mercedes on a dealer lot has those wheels.
AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering are optional on the E 450. A demonstrator fitted with them is not a reliable guide to how a differently equipped order will feel or manoeuvre.
The selected Audi inventory record displays 21-inch wheels with 255/35 R21 performance tires, while its generic S line black package description mentions 20-inch wheels. That is a configuration detail to reconcile, not a reason to announce that every Technik uses either size. Inspect the wheel and tire specification on this VIN and the final order sheet before budgeting replacements or winter equipment.
Ask for an approved winter setup with the correct load and speed specification and check storage and seasonal-change costs. Do not infer a Canadian winter-braking advantage from quattro or 4MATIC alone. AWD cannot turn an unsuitable tire into a suitable seasonal choice, and wheel diameter by itself is not a ride-quality test.
Infotainment: similar centre-screen size, different equipment
The Audi pairs its centre screen with an 11.9-inch driver display; the Mercedes uses third-generation MBUX. Here is how the main entertainment equipment compares:
| Feature | 2026 Audi A6 | 2027 Mercedes-Benz E 450 |
|---|---|---|
| Centre touchscreen | 14.5-inch MMI — standard | 14.4-inch MBUX — standard |
| Front-passenger display | 10.9-inch — available | 12.3-inch with optional MBUX Superscreen |
| Premium audio | Bang & Olufsen: 20 speakers, 810 W — available; confirm on the selected VIN | Burmester 4D: 17 speakers, 750 W — standard |
The centre screens differ by only 0.1 inch, making menu layout more useful to compare than diagonal size. Speaker counts and amplifier output are equipment facts, not a sound-quality verdict. Passenger displays are optional choices; their included functions and connectivity requirements deserve a look before paying for them.
Trunk access and long-item flexibility
The documented Audi has powered trunk opening and closing. The E 450’s standard EASY-PACK power trunk closer also lets you open the lid from the driver’s door switch or key, then close it with the button under the lid. Both cars here are sedans; do not substitute an A6 Avant or electric Sportback cargo specification.
Mercedes specifies standard 40/20/40-split folding rear seatbacks, with release handles in the trunk. Folding the centre section can accommodate a long item between two rear passengers. For bulky luggage, check the opening and the shape of your usual bags, not just a capacity figure; secure loads appropriately and keep the seats needed for passengers available.
Fuel economy and premium-fuel costs
The E 450 specifies premium unleaded gasoline, while the selected Audi’s equipment record identifies its fuel as Plus/Premium. Budget with the applicable premium-fuel price rather than a regular-grade price that makes ownership look cheaper.
A fuel-cost verdict needs consumption labels that match these exact cars and model years. Use the same annual distance and fuel price for both estimates; neither engine output nor mild-hybrid branding alone proves which will cost less to fuel.
Read the price breakdown without counting fees twice
Checked October 31, 2026, Audi Canada’s 2026 A6 Technik configurator lists C$90,350 vehicle price with standard 19-inch wheels and no optional packages. Its C$94,010 displayed total adds freight/PDI, the maximum administration fee and federal A/C tax. Sales taxes, licensing, insurance, registration, provincial fees and dealer-added equipment or services are extra. No province or dealer was selected. This is grade-level context, not the featured VIN’s price: its listed 21-inch wheels and S line package still require configuration reconciliation. Do not add the included fees a second time.
The Audi baseline is not an equipment-matched E 450 quote, so it does not establish a like-for-like price advantage. Rear-seat heating, suspension options, paint and winter wheels can change the comparison. Compare complete provincial totals, keeping finance costs and any trade-in debt separate from the car’s selling price.
Service plans are separate from a reliability prediction
As checked October 31, 2026, Audi Canada’s current A6 Technik configurator lists Audi Care as standard. That does not confirm the coverage attached to the featured VIN: check its actual contract, service start date and remaining covered visits. The Audi Care terms explain the scheduled-maintenance programme. Mercedes-Benz offers Prepaid Maintenance; verify whether a plan is included with the E 450 offer and price any optional plan separately.
A useful comparison covers the same ownership period and driving distance. Confirm which scheduled work is included, what remains payable and when coverage begins. Keep tires and other excluded items in the budget. Do not count the entire cost of a service package as a saving without comparing the covered work, or treat maintenance coverage as a warranty against every repair.
Use our vehicle quote comparison guide to keep the equipment and service contracts attached to each written offer. Start with the A6 Technik if its documented rear-passenger comfort package matches your needs. Start with the E 450 if its cabin, standard assistance features and available chassis options better suit your preferences. Then resolve the exact build and price details before declaring either one better value.
