The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss combines the lifted Trail Boss layout with a more substantial cabin technology package than Custom Trail Boss. It is an alternative to spending more on ZR2, but it should not be mistaken for the same off-road hardware under a different badge.

Custom Trail Boss is an alternative equipment comparison, while ZR2 is the higher off-road-focused alternative. Match the cab, box, engine and drivetrain before comparing prices. An ordinary Custom or LT is not automatically equivalent to its Trail Boss counterpart.
Engine and transmission
| Engine configuration | Manufacturer-rated output | Transmission |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7L TurboMax | 310 hp / 430 lb-ft | 8-speed automatic |
| 5.3L V8 | 355 hp / 383 lb-ft | 10-speed automatic |
| 6.2L V8 | 420 hp / 460 lb-ft | 10-speed automatic |
| 3.0L Duramax diesel | 305 hp / 495 lb-ft | 10-speed automatic |
The Canadian base catalogue uses TurboMax. Canadian LT Trail Boss listings also establish the V8 and diesel configurations: TurboMax catalogue, 5.3-litre example, 6.2-litre Canadian dealer example and diesel example. Engine outputs are corroborated by the 2025 GM Canadian Fleet Guide.
Off-road equipment
Chevrolet describes Trail Boss equipment around a factory two-inch lift, Z71 suspension, two-speed transfer case, skid protection and an automatic-locking rear differential. The Canadian 2025 LT Trail Boss inventory reference corroborates the lifted suspension and protection. Chevrolet Canada Trail Boss explanation; exact-year Canadian example.
Do not confuse an automatic rear locker with the driver-selectable front and rear lockers offered by ZR2. Likewise, the lift and appearance do not establish a particular towing rating. Check the fitted tire specification and any aftermarket changes before comparing one truck with another.
Fuel economy
NRCan separates ordinary four-wheel-drive Silverados from mud-terrain-tire configurations. The following combined figures show why the exact build matters; they are not a verified rating for the filmed truck. 2025 NRCan dataset.
| Engine | Ordinary Silverado 4WD combined | 4WD Mud Terrain Tire combined |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7L TurboMax | 12.9 L/100 km | 14.3 L/100 km |
| 5.3L V8 | 13.9 L/100 km | 14.5 L/100 km |
| 6.2L V8 | 14.1 L/100 km | 15.7 L/100 km |
| 3.0L diesel | 10.1 L/100 km | 10.6 L/100 km |
These columns should not be assigned from the trim badge alone. Match the vehicle’s EnerGuide information and equipment. Special Sport Mode, flex-fuel and ZR2 entries are separate. Budgeting from the lowest number in the Silverado range can understate fuel use for a different configuration.
Interior and infotainment
The LT Trail Boss cabin features the 13.4-inch centre screen and 12.3-inch driver display described by Chevrolet. LT Trail Boss technology comparison. The exact-year Canadian 5.3-litre example lists heated cloth front seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and remote start. Canadian cabin equipment reference.
Leather and upgraded audio require closer inspection. The Canadian diesel example specifically lists Leather and Convenience Package II equipment, including Bose audio; that does not make those items standard on every LT Trail Boss. Optioned Canadian diesel example.
Towing and safety checks
Use the truck’s own load label and trailering documentation rather than a range-wide maximum. Allow for occupants, accessories, bed cargo and trailer tongue weight together. Verify the fitted brake controller and camera functions, and do not assume an optioned dealer example represents every truck.
Driver-assistance features have operating limitations and still require an attentive driver.
Canadian trim comparison and pricing
Current Canadian manufacturer pricing for these exact 2025 configurations has not been verified as of October 31, 2026. Vehicle prices and price differences are therefore omitted; the chart compares equipment only.
| 2025 configuration | What changes |
|---|---|
| Custom Trail Boss, 2.7L | 2-inch factory lift, Z71 equipment and automatic rear locker; smaller centre display than LT Trail Boss. |
| LT Trail Boss, 2.7L | 2-inch lift plus 13.4-inch centre screen and 12.3-inch driver display. |
| ZR2, 3.0L diesel | Different engine plus DSSV dampers and selectable front/rear lockers. |
Check Chevrolet Canada’s official Silverado page for manufacturer pricing. Match the model year, cab, box, drivetrain and engine; dealer-catalogue figures are not used as current manufacturer prices.
ZR2 hardware is documented in the Canadian 2025 ZR2 build reference. The engine changes as well, so compare matched engines and options before attributing a cost difference solely to trim.
Frequently asked questions
Is LT Trail Boss always a V8?
No. The Canadian entry configuration uses TurboMax, and other powertrains are available. Verify the individual truck.
Is LT Trail Boss the same as ZR2?
No. The differential and suspension hardware differ, in addition to other equipment and configuration choices.
Should I choose Custom Trail Boss or LT Trail Boss?
Start by deciding whether the larger displays and desired cabin equipment justify the price difference on matching builds. Do not pay for an engine or package you have not compared directly.
