The 2026 Audi Q5 Progressiv and 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC are worth comparing as complete configurations, not merely as German luxury badges. Audi’s middle trim brings a defined equipment bundle and a flexible rear bench. Mercedes lets buyers start with its standard comfort features and add selected upgrades. The better fit depends on passenger use, cargo shape and what actually appears on the quote.
This is deliberately a mixed-year Canadian comparison. Audi Canada currently documents the 2026 Q5; an exact Canadian 2027 Progressiv specification has not been verified here. Mercedes Canada identifies the GLC 300 as 2027. Neither is the performance derivative, a coupe-bodied alternative or a plug-in model.
Rear-seat flexibility can matter more than a cargo total
Audi’s Canadian overview describes a rear bench that slides, reclines and folds 40/20/40. The GLC also lists a 40/20/40 folding split. The Audi’s documented adjustment gives you a specific function to try when balancing passenger room and luggage, rather than deciding from two maximum cargo-volume numbers measured under potentially different conditions.
Bring the items that make your current vehicle awkward: a stroller, instrument case or sports bag. Set the front seats for their regular occupants before testing rear-seat space. Then try the load with everyone’s seating position respected. More adjustment is useful only if the resulting arrangement remains comfortable and the cargo can be secured safely.
A narrow centre opening may suit a long item while retaining the two outer rear positions, but verify its dimensions and the restraint arrangement. Do not use the existence of a folding centre section as permission to transport unsecured equipment through the passenger compartment.
Canadian Progressiv equipment and optional packages
The Canadian Audi stock-car equipment record for 2026 Progressiv VIN WA15AAGU4T2061730 identifies three-zone climate control and power-adjustable steering. Its embedded Progressiv description lists a panoramic roof, 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio, adaptive cruise assist, Topview camera and head-up display. This particular vehicle also has a separately identified S line black package; its sport seats and 20-inch wheels must not be assigned to every Progressiv.
That distinction is important if the demonstrator’s seats are what attract you. Try the actual seat specification you intend to buy, including the head restraint and adjustment range. An appearance package can change the cabin experience without changing the engine. Ask for the package codes and equipment record rather than relying on a photograph of a similarly coloured vehicle.
What the GLC includes—and what remains optional
Mercedes’ 2027 Canadian equipment data lists heated power front seats with memory, heated steering wheel, ARTICO upholstery and dual-zone climate control as standard. Its panoramic roof, Burmester audio, head-up display, 360-degree camera and Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC are optional. That is not a criticism of the base configuration; it means the comparable Mercedes quote must reflect the features you actually want.
If you rarely use premium audio and prefer not to pay for a glass roof, the Mercedes’ starting specification may suit your priorities. If several of those extras are essential, compare a fully itemized GLC with the Audi rather than declaring a price winner from two entry figures. Confirm current package combinations, because the availability of an individual feature does not establish that it can be ordered independently.
Screens and powertrains need a real demonstration
Audi pairs an 11.9-inch instrument display with a 14.5-inch central screen. Mercedes lists a 12.3-inch instrument display and 11.9-inch central screen. Try navigation, phone pairing and the climate controls; combining diagonal measurements into one supposedly superior screen score would not tell you which interface is easier to use.
Both use turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines and all-wheel drive. The Audi has a seven-speed S tronic; the Mercedes has a nine-speed automatic with mild-hybrid assistance. These descriptions do not establish a ride, acceleration or fuel-cost winner in this comparison. Evaluate low-speed response and braking on a representative route in the actual configurations.
The sensible shortlist
Start with Q5 Progressiv if its equipment bundle and adjustable rear-seat layout address regular needs. Start with GLC 300 if its standard cabin suits you or you prefer to choose upgrades more selectively. Keep wheel packages, delivery availability and all required fees visible in the final quotes. This is specification-based buying analysis, not a claim of back-to-back testing.
Keep the Audi trim and Mercedes assistance options aligned. The vehicle quote and total-cost guide provides a written framework for that comparison.
