The 2025 GMC Yukon XL Elevation is the starting point for buyers who want the extended Yukon body without immediately moving into Denali pricing. The important question is not just how much equipment it has, but whether its seating, cargo arrangement and optional packages match the way your family will use it.

Models available
The 2025 XL lineup includes Elevation, AT4, Denali, AT4 Ultimate and Denali Ultimate. XL identifies the extended body, not a more luxurious equipment grade. Compare XL with XL when looking at trim premiums; a cheaper standard-length Yukon is not a like-for-like substitution. Canadian XL trim catalog.
Engine and transmission
The standard Canadian Elevation configuration uses the 5.3-litre V8 and a ten-speed automatic. GMC’s Canadian 2025 engine listing rates the 5.3 at 355 hp and 383 lb-ft. The XL Elevation catalog also offers the 3.0-litre Duramax diesel; GMC announced 305 hp and 495 lb-ft for that engine, with late availability. Engine choice varies by vehicle. When comparing listings, start with the engine and drivetrain rather than the headline price. A diesel-equipped example and a standard V8 example can have different option packages as well as different fuel costs. Confirm the original configuration before treating a price difference as a dealer discount.
Towing and payload
The XL Elevation catalog separates basic trailering equipment from optional items such as an integrated trailer brake controller and Max Trailering Package. Do not assume that having a hitch means the vehicle has every towing upgrade. Standard and optional trailering equipment.
For your trailer, check the actual vehicle’s owner documentation and door-label payload. Account for everyone aboard, luggage, accessories and trailer tongue weight. Use the towing rating for the actual XL configuration.
Fuel economy
NRCan’s 2025 Yukon XL 4WD ratings are shown below. The 5.3-litre XL figure is not the same as the shorter Yukon’s rating. These are standardized reference figures, not results from this video. NRCan 2025 fuel-consumption data.
| XL 4WD engine | City (L/100 km) | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5.3L V8 | 17.1 | 12.6 | 15.1 |
| 3.0L diesel | 11.5 | 9.7 | 10.7 |
For an illustrative 20,000 km year, the 5.3-litre rating equates to 3,020 litres. At an assumed $1.60 per litre, that is $4,832. The diesel rating equates to 2,140 litres before applying a diesel price. Neither calculation guarantees your costs; include purchase price, maintenance and your driving pattern before deciding that one engine is automatically cheaper.
Interior, seats and cargo
The XL Elevation catalog lists heated front seats, a power-folding third row and a second-row bench as standard, with second-row bucket seats and front ventilation among the options. Check the actual seating arrangement before planning around passenger capacity or third-row access. Canadian Elevation seating and options.
For a useful showroom check, fit the child seats you use and leave the third row in its normal position. Then load the stroller, hockey bags or suitcases that need to fit behind it. Check the space required to fold the seats and whether access remains practical with child seats installed. Also allow room for the liftgate when measuring garage clearance.
Technology and safety
The 2025 refresh brings a 16.8-inch vertical infotainment display. Elevation’s Canadian equipment list includes wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability and a ten-speaker Bose system. GMC’s 2025 interior update; Elevation connectivity equipment.
Super Cruise is optional on Elevation, not something to assume from the large screen or adaptive cruise control. When fitted, it requires an active trial or paid subscription, compatible roads and an attentive driver. Check remaining trial eligibility on a used vehicle. Compare the XL body and the exact engine and equipment when evaluating Elevation, AT4 and Denali. A different engine or option package changes the configuration; no current manufacturer price difference is established here.
Is Elevation the right choice?
Start with Elevation if the extended body is the priority and you do not need the higher trim’s extra equipment. Price only the options you genuinely want, then compare the completed configuration against AT4 or Denali. A heavily optioned entry trim deserves a fresh comparison; the lowest starting price is not necessarily the lowest price for your desired specification.
