The 2026 GMC Canyon AT4 combines a five-seat Crew Cab with a factory lift, four-wheel drive and a turbocharged gasoline engine. It sits between the Elevation and the more specialized AT4X, giving Canadian buyers an alternative to a full-size pickup without moving to the AT4X’s suspension and equipment.
This guide separates standard AT4 equipment from optional packages, with Canadian pricing and fuel-consumption references. The walkaround below shows the featured truck’s exterior and cabin.

2026 GMC Canyon AT4: Engine and Configuration

The Canadian Canyon lineup offers Elevation, AT4, Denali and AT4X. The Canadian configurator lists Crew Cab, Short Box and 4WD; there is no regular-cab or long-box choice in that selection. All four trims use a 2.7-litre TurboMax four-cylinder rated at 310 hp and 430 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed automatic. The AT4 is not a diesel or a hybrid.
AT4 Hardware and Exterior
AT4 equipment includes a 2-inch factory suspension lift, 18-inch aluminum wheels with all-terrain tires, an automatic locking rear differential, a two-speed Autotrac transfer case and a transfer-case shield. Normal, Terrain, Tow/Haul and Off-Road modes are included. MultiStow tailgate storage provides a separate compartment for small items.
The AT4X adds different hardware, including front and rear selectable electronic locking differentials and Multimatic DSSV dampers. Those features should not be credited to a regular AT4. Nightfall packages also change the exterior equipment; check the package list when comparing two AT4 listings.
2026 GMC Canyon AT4 Towing and Payload

GMC Canada advertises towing up to 3,492 kg (7,700 lb) when properly equipped. That is a maximum, rather than proof that every loaded AT4 can tow a trailer of that weight. GMC’s 2026 trailering chart lists 7,700 lb for AT4, compared with 6,000 lb for AT4X and 5,500 lb for AT4X AEV.
Payload and towing are connected. Passengers, accessories, tools and the trailer’s tongue load all use the truck’s available payload. Use the actual vehicle’s certification and loading labels, hitch limits and owner’s manual before buying a trailer. A trailer’s empty weight alone is insufficient; calculate its loaded weight and tongue weight. The AT4X’s additional equipment is one reason a more expensive Canyon does not automatically offer a higher tow rating.
Fuel Economy in Canada
Natural Resources Canada’s 2026 guide rates the Canyon 4WD at 13.6 L/100 km city, 10.7 highway and 12.3 combined, using regular gasoline. This is the relevant published model category for the AT4; the guide lists AT4X separately at 14.0 combined and AT4X AEV at 14.9 combined.
At the AT4’s 12.3 combined rating, 20,000 km represents approximately 2,460 litres. Multiply that amount by your local gasoline price for a simple annual budget. The result is an estimate based on the laboratory rating. Winter conditions, idling, cargo and towing can change consumption, so leave room in the budget for your actual use.
Interior, Seating and Storage

The AT4 seats five, with two front seats and a rear bench. Heated front seats and an eight-way power driver’s seat are part of the trim. Leather-appointed and ventilated front seating are available through the AT4 Premium Package; neither should be assumed from the AT4 badge alone. The cabin uses Jet Black with Timber accents.
A midsize Crew Cab still needs to fit your passengers and gear. Check rear-seat clearance with your own child seats, and account for the space a front passenger needs at the same time. For the cargo bed, compare usable dimensions with the longest item you regularly carry, then consider the effect of a tonneau cover, liner or bed-mounted accessory on usable space and payload.

Infotainment and Connected Features

The Canyon has an 11.3-inch centre touchscreen and an 11-inch digital driver display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility let supported phones connect without a cable. Google built-in compatibility is included, but full connected functionality can require subscriptions. The optional Bose system has seven speakers.
A head-up display and additional camera views are available features, rather than equipment on every AT4. When comparing packages, prioritize the functions you will actually use: parking cameras, a trailer camera view and phone integration solve different needs. Ask which connected services remain active after any included trial expires.
2026 GMC Canyon AT4 Safety Features
GMC’s Canadian safety detail lists Canyon Pro Safety as standard: automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, a following-distance indicator, automatic high beams and lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning. Canyon Safety Plus adds rear parking assistance, rear cross-traffic braking and blind-zone steering assistance with trailering.
The same page identifies rear pedestrian alert and the Safety Alert Seat as additional AT4X equipment. Adaptive cruise control is not established as standard AT4 equipment by that package list; verify it on the selected build. Driver-assistance features do not establish a crash-test rating, and an available camera package should not be treated as included on a truck without it.
Canadian Pricing and Trim Choices
The GMC Canada configurator displays these starting references: Elevation C$55,343, AT4 C$59,343, Denali C$66,943 and AT4X C$72,343. These figures describe the configurator’s “MSRP from” amounts, not the featured truck’s confirmed price.
AT4 Premium, technology packages, paint and accessories can move the final amount substantially. Obtain a written breakdown showing the vehicle, options, freight and fees, taxes and any incentive conditions. The jump from AT4 to AT4X should be evaluated against the equipment you need and the lower advertised towing maximum. Denali is another route if cabin materials and included technology take priority.
Competition and Buying Considerations
Compare the Canyon AT4 with a Chevrolet Colorado Z71, Ford Ranger equipped for off-road use, Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road and Nissan Frontier PRO-4X. Start with matching cab, drivetrain, towing needs and installed packages. Comparing an optioned AT4 with an entry-level competitor’s advertised price will obscure the cost difference.
The AT4’s appeal is its combination of a lifted chassis, a two-speed transfer case and a midsize body. Its compromises include one Canadian cab/box combination and the extra cost of optional cabin and technology equipment. Buyers needing more passenger space or payload should also compare an appropriately configured full-size pickup before committing.
