The 2026 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport is a five-seat, gasoline-powered version of Toyota’s body-on-frame SUV. Its distinguishing equipment includes 20-inch wheels, a hood scoop, sport fabric upholstery and a sport-tuned suspension. This Canadian review examines the specifications and equipment without assigning features from the TRD Off Road, TRD Pro or hybrid grades to this model.

2026 4Runner models available

Canadian gasoline choices are SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off Road Premium and Limited. The i-FORCE MAX hybrid range includes TRD Off Road Premium, Platinum, TRD Pro and Trailhunter, with two Platinum running-board configurations listed in Toyota’s launch pricing. SR5 and gasoline Limited offer seven seats; TRD Sport has two rows and five seats. Hybrid models have five seats.
4Runner TRD Sport engine specifications

The i-FORCE 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder produces 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. It connects to an eight-speed automatic and part-time four-wheel drive. This is not the 326-hp, 465-lb-ft i-FORCE MAX hybrid. Full-time 4WD offered on some other grades is also a separate configuration.
Safety and driver assistance
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes pre-collision assistance, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, lane tracing, automatic high beams, road sign assistance and proactive driving assistance. The Canadian specification summary also lists blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a reversing camera. TRD Sport adds Intuitive Parking Assist with Auto Braking.
The Multi-Terrain Monitor and locking rear differential are equipment associated with the TRD Off Road Premium, while the panoramic-view camera appears on Limited equipment. They should not be described as standard TRD Sport features. Check the build sheet when comparing a dealer advertisement with a general 4Runner brochure.
Towing and payload
Toyota’s Canadian gasoline specification summary lists a towing capacity of 2,722 kg, approximately 6,000 lb. This is a properly equipped limit, not a trailer recommendation for every load. Verify the individual vehicle’s hitch equipment, owner’s manual and loading labels. Passengers, luggage, accessories and trailer tongue weight all count toward the load the SUV carries.
An integrated trailer brake controller is highlighted as new standard equipment on TRD Off Road Premium and Limited for 2026. That announcement does not make it standard on TRD Sport. Confirm the equipment required for the intended trailer rather than assuming the tow-rating headline includes every accessory.
Canadian fuel economy
NRCan rates the 2026 gasoline 4Runner with part-time 4WD at 12.4 L/100 km city, 9.6 highway and 11.2 combined. Limited and hybrid versions have separate ratings. Use this matching powertrain category for comparisons, and the vehicle’s EnerGuide label for the actual purchase. These figures are official test ratings rather than consumption recorded in the video.
4Runner TRD Sport interior and five-seat layout

TRD Sport has a two-row cabin with grey and black sport fabric seating. Its equipment includes heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, single-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. It also receives a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless phone charging and aluminum sport pedals.
The five-seat arrangement matters when comparing cargo space with an SR5 or Limited that has a third row. A cargo figure measured behind the third row of a seven-seat model does not describe this TRD Sport. Check the available luggage area with the rear bench in use and with it folded. Toyota’s power rear window is a characteristic feature, while a powered liftgate with a kick sensor is separate equipment found on other packages.

Infotainment and connectivity

TRD Sport retains the eight-inch Toyota Multimedia centre touchscreen and eight-speaker audio arrangement rather than the 14-inch system and JBL package added by higher grades. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included. The Canadian summary lists five USB-C ports, split between front and rear. The 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is the driver display and should not be confused with the centre touchscreen.
Connected navigation, remote functions and service features have separate trial and subscription terms. Confirm the current connected-service agreement and compatible phone requirements; smartphone integration does not itself require purchasing every connected-service option.
2026 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport Canadian pricing
Toyota’s January 2026 announcement lists TRD Sport at $60,072 CAD MSRP and an estimated vehicle price of $63,730. That estimated amount includes freight/PDI, A/C charge and the specified maximum fees, excluding taxes, licence, insurance and registration. For comparison, SR5 starts at $55,270 MSRP, TRD Off Road Premium at $65,212 and gasoline Limited at $69,394. These launch references should be checked against a current itemized quote.
Competition and trim selection
Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler are relevant body-on-frame alternatives, while Toyota Land Cruiser provides another Toyota option with a different powertrain and equipment mix. Buyers primarily seeking family seating can also compare conventional three-row SUVs, but their body construction and load specifications differ. Match the number of seats, usable cargo space, towing equipment, safety technology and total Canadian price.
TRD Sport makes sense when its five-seat layout and appearance equipment fit the purchase. Buyers wanting a third row should examine SR5 or Limited. Those wanting the locking rear differential and specialized terrain equipment should compare the appropriate off-road grade. Our other SUV reviews cover additional specifications and trim choices.
