The 2027 Ram 2500 Tradesman and 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD WT are sensible starting points for a Canadian buyer who wants a working pickup rather than a luxury package. Their published equipment takes different directions, but the biggest buying mistake would be to compare them using a maximum towing number that belongs to another configuration.
This article compares gasoline Crew Cab 4×4 pickups in the three-quarter-ton class. Model years are intentionally mixed. Chevrolet has announced a substantially updated 2027 HD, but its Canadian preview still describes ordering and pricing as forthcoming and directs immediate buyers to 2026 inventory. The Chevrolet specifications below are explicitly 2026—not assumed 2027 carryovers.

Why a 2026 Chevrolet is included
Chevrolet’s Canadian 2027 preview announces an enhanced gas engine, new steering and braking systems and an available new diesel. It says availability is anticipated later in 2026. If you can wait, obtain current order and delivery information before buying an outgoing-year truck; if you need a truck now, compare actual 2026 inventory. An announced replacement is not a reason to invent its trim equipment or price. It also does not make an available 2026 automatically a bargain. Any discount must be weighed against the particular truck’s configuration, financing cost and your required delivery date.
The verified equipment priorities
The Canadian 2027 Tradesman manufacturer sticker lists an 8.4-inch Uconnect 5 display, LED headlamps/fog lamps, adaptive cruise with Stop, pedestrian/cyclist emergency braking, an engine block heater and a vinyl front bench. Its Class V receiver and four-/seven-pin wiring are standard; its powered-mirror and chrome appearance groups are separately listed options. FCA Canada Tradesman Crew Cab 4×4 sticker.
Chevrolet’s Canadian WT specification emphasizes the 6.6-litre gas V8 and ten-speed automatic, rear automatic locking differential, trailering package, towing mirrors and 12 standard bed tie-downs. These are useful work-truck features, not evidence that every optional comfort or trailer-camera feature is included. Chevrolet Canada’s 2026 Silverado HD trim guide.
The Ram’s documented assistance equipment deserves attention if long journeys form a large part of the job. The WT’s bed and driveline equipment deserves a practical check if securing material and accessing variable surfaces are daily priorities. Do not turn either observation into a claim that the other truck cannot be equipped for the same work.
Gas power: similar purpose, different specification
Ram Canada rates the 2027 6.4-litre HEMI at 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Chevrolet’s 2026 6.6-litre is rated at 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft with ten speeds. Those figures belong to these model years; the announced 2027 Chevrolet gas engine has a different specification. Ram Canada capability; Chevrolet Canada 2026 powertrains.
The Chevrolet’s higher published torque is not, by itself, proof that the selected WT can tow more. Nor do four additional rated horsepower make the Ram quicker in a loaded test that has not been performed. Axle selection, truck weight, ratings and the trailer combination remain essential.
A real WT example shows why the door label matters
A Canadian dealer’s 2026 WT Crew Cab 4WD gas listing identifies an optional C4M lowered 9,900-lb GVWR, expressly noting reduced payload and towing capacity. It also lists a WT Convenience Package rather than treating its contents as base equipment. This is a configuration example, not a claim that the vehicle is still available or that an expired advertised incentive remains valid. Boyer Chevrolet listing, VIN 2GC1KLE74T1209627.
The Ram manufacturer sticker used here also lists 9,900-lb GVWR. Equal gross vehicle ratings do not mean equal payload: the trucks and their equipment do not necessarily weigh the same. GVWR is a total vehicle-weight limit, not an amount of cargo you may place in the bed.
For each proposed truck, obtain the actual payload and towing configuration, then account for occupants, tools, accessories and hitch hardware. Add the trailer tongue or pin load carried by the pickup, and check axle and hitch limits. A trim-level maximum cannot replace that exercise.
Work through the bed, cab and trailer setup
Take a list of the fixed-size items you carry and measure the usable bed with the tailgate closed. Allow for a toolbox, hitch or other permanent installation. Cab and box names are not standardized enough to assume the two Crew Cab trucks have identical cargo dimensions or parking footprints.
Check mirror adjustment and visibility with the relevant trailer size. Confirm the brake-controller arrangement and any factory hitch preparation explicitly; a receiver and electrical connector do not answer every towing-equipment question. If a camera feature is important, have the seller demonstrate the actual installed system.
Inside, test the seating layout and access while wearing the clothing or work gear you normally use. A base vinyl cabin may be entirely appropriate, but comfort and storage still matter on a long day. Price the needed convenience equipment before deciding that a bare starting price represents the truck you want.
The buying decision
Ask for complete, comparable offers with the same treatment of freight, fees, taxes and accessories. Keep the outgoing Chevrolet’s incentive, finance terms and delivery timing visible separately. No numeric price winner is declared without current configured offers.
Shortlist the Tradesman if its documented standard assistance and lighting equipment match your priorities. Shortlist the WT if the available 2026 configuration, bed equipment and real transaction terms fit your work. If the 2027 Chevrolet changes are important to you, resolve ordering and timing before committing; do not mistake this article for a review of that future configuration.
