The 2027 Mercedes-AMG G 63 combines the upright G-Class body with a hand-built twin-turbo V8 and a five-seat luxury cabin. Its specification includes a low-range transfer case and three locking differentials, alongside modern screens and assistance features. Canadian buyers should also distinguish the standard adaptive suspension from the optional AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL system.

Models and options available

The G-Class family includes the gasoline G 550, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 and the electric G 580. This article focuses on the G 63. Their engines, energy use and available equipment differ, so a G-Class badge alone does not identify the specification.
G 63 personalization includes AMG Night packages, carbon-fibre treatments, MANUFAKTUR finishes and several wheel designs. Interior upgrades include different leathers, trim materials and seat packages. These choices can change the price substantially without changing the underlying model name.
2027 Mercedes-AMG G 63 engine specs

The hand-built 4.0-litre biturbo V8 produces 577 hp at 6,000 rpm and 627 lb-ft at 2,500–3,500 rpm. It works with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT nine-speed automatic and permanent all-wheel drive. A mild-hybrid integrated starter-generator assists the engine; the vehicle does not require plug-in charging.
Cylinder-management technology can deactivate four cylinders under suitable conditions. Premium unleaded gasoline is required, and the tank holds 100 litres. The electric assistance should not be treated as a separate output to add to the published V8 horsepower.
A two-speed transfer case provides low range. The centre, rear and front differentials can be locked sequentially. Standard chassis equipment includes adaptive damping, independent double-wishbone front suspension and a rigid rear axle with coil springs.
AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL with roll stabilization is optional. It should not be confused with the standard adaptive damping. The base wheels measure 20 inches and use 275/50 R20 summer performance tires. Larger wheels and different finishes are available at additional cost.
Towing capacity and fuel economy
Mercedes-Benz Canada lists a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 kg, approximately 7,716 lb. A trailer hitch and Trailer Stability Assist are standard. Trailer Manoeuvring Assist is optional. The loaded trailer, tongue weight and vehicle loading must still remain within the applicable limits.
A Canadian dealer’s 2027 G 63 listing quotes estimated consumption of 17.4 L/100 km city, 14.7 highway and 16.2 combined. Another dealer comparison identifies those figures as carried over from 2026. They are useful provisional references, but should not be presented as a newly verified 2027 EnerGuide rating.
Confirm the model-specific Canadian fuel label before purchase. Wheel and tire choices, winter temperatures and vehicle loading can affect actual fuel use. A large tank changes refill frequency rather than the amount of fuel the engine consumes per kilometre.
Interior, seating and cargo

The G 63 has five seats and standard Nappa leather upholstery. Heated front and rear seats, heated front armrests and a heated steering wheel are included. Power front seats with memory and a power-adjustable steering column support different seating positions.
Three-zone THERMOTRONIC climate control, ambient lighting and climate-controlled front cupholders are also standard. The glass sunroof tilts and slides. It should not be described as a panoramic roof merely because it is part of a premium cabin.
Front-seat ventilation requires Climate Comfort equipment. Multicontour seating and enhanced seat functions are also optional. Check the actual seat package before assuming that a G 63 has ventilation or massage as standard.
Mercedes lists cargo capacity at 640–2,010 litres, with 60/40 folding rear seats. Overall length is 4,873 mm including the rear spare tire, and height is 1,976 mm. The rear-mounted spare is therefore part of the published exterior length.
The tall body, rear cargo access and overall height deserve attention when checking a garage or parking space. The five-seat arrangement also matters for shoppers who need a third row: the G 63 is a two-row vehicle.

Infotainment and connectivity

MBUX uses a 12.3-inch centre touchscreen and a separate 12.3-inch digital driver display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB-C ports and front-cabin wireless charging are included. Burmester 3D surround audio with Dolby Atmos is standard.
Navigation includes augmented-reality functions. The Canadian equipment list specifies one year of map updates and live traffic information. Connected features require the relevant account and activation, and their individual service periods should be checked.
The OFFROAD COCKPIT can display vehicle information such as steering angle and tire pressure. A Transparent Hood display is listed with the off-road menu. Rear-seat entertainment and wireless headsets are optional rather than standard cabin screens.
Safety features
Standard assistance includes Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist. DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control and Active Steering Assist are also listed. Traffic Sign Assist, ATTENTION ASSIST and emergency-stop assistance add further support functions.
A 360-degree camera, PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist and rear cross-traffic alerts are included. These are separate from the optional trailer-manoeuvring upgrade. MULTIBEAM LED lighting, adaptive high beams and rain-sensing wipers are also standard.
The Canadian list includes 11 airbags and a front centre airbag, alongside PRE-SAFE and PRE-SAFE Sound. Assistance features have operating limits and require an attentive driver. They should not be described as making the vehicle autonomous.
2027 Mercedes-AMG G 63 pricing
The manufacturer’s Canadian model page showed “Build Coming Soon”. For a advertised price reference, Mercedes-Benz Moncton advertised a 2027 G 63 at $287,485 CAD, including freight and PDI and $26,135 in luxury tax. Applicable sales tax and licensing were extra.
This is a dealer-published example rather than a verified national bare MSRP. It should not be compared directly with a price that excludes freight or luxury tax. A written quote should identify the vehicle specification, options, levies and sales tax separately.
Paint, MANUFAKTUR interior treatments, larger wheels and chassis or seat upgrades can add to the total. Compare two vehicles with matching equipment before deciding that a difference in advertised price represents a saving.
Competition and buying considerations
Other premium SUVs to compare include the Range Rover, Land Rover Defender V8 and BMW X5 M Competition. Their seating layouts, cargo access and towing specifications differ. Compare those practical details with the G 63’s two-row cabin and published towing limit.
Within the G-Class family, the G 550 offers a different gasoline powertrain, while the electric G 580 changes the ownership and charging requirements. For a G 63 purchase, the key equipment checks include seat ventilation, optional chassis hardware and the complete price after vehicle-specific taxes and fees.

Frequently asked questions
Is the AMG G 63 a plug-in hybrid?
No. Its twin-turbo V8 uses mild-hybrid assistance and does not require plugging in. The electric assistance should not simply be added to the published 577-horsepower V8 output.
Is AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL standard?
It is optional on the configuration covered here. The standard adaptive suspension and the optional system are different equipment specifications.
Does the G 63 have a panoramic sunroof?
The standard glass sunroof tilts and slides; it should not be described as a panoramic roof. Front-seat ventilation and other enhanced seat functions also depend on optional equipment.
