2027 IONIQ 9 Luxury AWD vs 2026 Kia EV9 Premium: Canadian Seven-Seat or Six-Seat Choice

The most important difference between these two three-row electric SUVs is not acceleration or screen size. It is where the seventh passenger goes. This comparison selects the Canadian 2027 Hyundai IONIQ 9 Luxury AWD and 2026 Kia EV9 Land AWD with Premium Package: two well-equipped configurations that make different decisions about the second row.

The model years are intentionally different. Hyundai’s Canadian showroom identifies the IONIQ 9 as a 2027; Kia’s current Canadian brochure and specifications page document the 2026 EV9. Canadian dealer pages have begun listing 2027 EV9 versions, but their exact equipment has not been established here from a Canadian manufacturer specification. Treat this as a documented-configuration comparison, not a claim that 2026 is the only EV9 available or that a 2027 is unchanged.

Start with the seating plan

Hyundai’s Canadian specifications give the Luxury AWD a second-row bench, power-folding third row, heated second-row seats and ventilated front seats. The Canadian showroom identifies the bench layout as seven-passenger seating. Kia’s 2026 Canadian brochure makes Premium a six-passenger configuration with second-row captain’s chairs, including heating and ventilation.

That is a real decision rather than a cosmetic distinction. If you regularly carry seven people, the selected Kia configuration cannot solve that requirement simply by folding or sliding a seat. If you normally carry four and occasionally six, the individual middle-row seats may be more appealing than preserving an extra position. Neither conclusion requires declaring one vehicle universally more spacious.

Bring the actual child seats and the adults who will use the rear rows. Check the approved installation positions in each owner’s manual, then rehearse entry with the child seats installed. An attractive aisle or convenient folding mechanism is not a substitute for confirming how your particular seating arrangement works. Repeat the exercise with the luggage you would carry while every required passenger seat is occupied.

Comfort equipment is not identical

The EV9 Premium also brings a surround-view monitor, Meridian audio and a driver’s power relaxation seat. However, Kia lists power-folding third-row seats and the head-up display as additions at GT-Line, not Premium. Hyundai’s Luxury has power third-row folding but reserves its head-up display and ventilated second-row seats for Ultimate Calligraphy. These are different bundles, not equivalent names for the same specification.

Prioritize the features you will actually operate. Power folding is useful when frequently changing the cargo layout; it matters less if the third row stays upright all week. Rear-seat ventilation deserves a test by the people who sit there. Do not buy an entire higher package merely because a showroom demonstration makes one convenience look indispensable.

Plan charging around the actual trip

The manufacturer documents list 110.3 kWh for the selected Hyundai and 99.8 kWh for the long-range Kia. Both list 10.9 kW onboard AC charging and NACS charge ports. Battery capacity alone does not establish a highway-range winner, while the port shape alone does not guarantee the same speed at every public charger.

Ask for a demonstration of the supplied adapters and confirm which charging networks support the exact vehicle. Before choosing, map a frequent intercity journey with a realistic arrival reserve and a backup stop. Compare charging at the sites you would genuinely use rather than treating a charger’s advertised peak output as power the vehicle will necessarily receive.

At home, have the proposed installation assessed before building a daily routine around overnight charging. The useful question is whether your available supply can replenish your typical driving during the hours the SUV is parked. A larger battery can provide flexibility, but it does not remove the need for a workable charging arrangement.

Which configuration deserves your test drive?

Start with IONIQ 9 Luxury if keeping seven seats and convenient third-row conversion matters most. Start with EV9 Premium if six seats suit your household and second-row comfort is a priority. Obtain itemized Canadian quotes for these exact years and packages, then confirm stock and delivery timing. No incentive, transaction price, towing advantage or guaranteed real-world range is assumed here.

Confirm the seven-seat Hyundai and six-seat Kia layouts on the actual orders. Our vehicle-quote checklist helps keep seating packages and options visible in the completed purchase totals.
