Venue Preferred and Kicks SV FWD are worth comparing if your priorities are an easy-to-live-with small crossover and a predictable household budget. The Hyundai offers a compact footprint and useful cold-weather conveniences. The Nissan is longer and adds automatic climate control and distance-adapting cruise. The decision should start with your parking space and routine, not simply the newer model-year badge.
This Canadian comparison uses the 2026 Hyundai Venue Preferred FWD and 2027 Nissan Kicks SV FWD, without SV Premium. Hyundai’s current Canadian Venue specifications identify 2026; Nissan’s 2027 Canadian press kit supplies the newer Kicks data. Both selected vehicles are front-wheel drive. The available Kicks AWD is a different configuration, and the Venue’s terrain modes do not turn it into AWD.
The size difference is easy to measure
Hyundai’s Preferred specifications give Venue a length of 4,040 mm. Nissan’s Kicks matrix lists 4,365 mm. The difference is 325 mm, or 32.5 cm. That does not prove either one is easier to park in every space, but it gives you a useful dimension to check against a short garage or tight curbside spot.
Measure the space with room left to open the hatch and move around the car. Then compare the turning and sightline experience in a normal test drive. A shorter body can be useful in one parking arrangement while the hatch opening or door access matters more in another.
Do the passenger-and-baggage test before assuming the longer Nissan solves every space problem. Set the front seat for the actual driver, have a regular passenger sit behind it and load your usual bags with the rear seats available. This guide does not compare cargo numbers measured under different conditions or use a folded-seat maximum as a family-trip result.
The Preferred already covers important winter comforts
The 2026 Venue Preferred column includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, proximity entry and key-activated remote start. It retains manual air conditioning and conventional cruise control, with an 8-inch touchscreen. The selected engine is 1.6 litres, paired with Hyundai’s IVT.
The 2027 Kicks SV specification includes heated front seats and wheel, remote start, automatic temperature control and Intelligent Cruise Control. Its centre touchscreen is 12.3 inches, and the 2.0-litre engine uses Xtronic CVT. These differences are more useful to assess than calling one trim generally “better equipped” without saying what changes.
If you repeatedly adjust the fan and temperature on changing-weather drives, automatic climate control may be worth paying for. If long highway trips are common, ask for a demonstration of the Nissan’s cruise controls and their limits. Driver assistance still requires attention; the feature name is not permission to stop monitoring traffic.
The fuel-rating gap is small enough to keep in perspective
Hyundai’s Preferred data list 7.5 L/100 km combined, while Nissan’s FWD rating is 7.4. At 20,000 km per year, that difference equals 20 litres; at an assumed C$1.70/L, it is C$34 annually. These comparison ratings do not predict your actual bill, especially with short winter trips or a different city/highway mix.
A C$34 illustration is not a sensible reason to ignore a meaningful purchase-price difference, an uncomfortable seat or a parking problem. Use our vehicle ownership budget worksheet to put fuel alongside insurance, financing and tire expenses, with your own distance and price assumptions.
Use a real Preferred quote, not the cheapest Venue advertisement
At the time of this October 31, 2026 update, the exact 2027 Kicks SV FWD configuration’s current Canadian manufacturer-site price and complete fee basis remain unverified. Compare itemized quotes that identify the model year, SV trim and front-wheel drive, and check whether any incentive depends on paying cash, financing or leasing.
Do not substitute the Essential’s advertised starting figure for the Preferred’s heated-wheel and keyless equipment. Request both complete offers on the same payment basis, with optional products and borrowing costs separated.
Venue Preferred uses 15-inch alloy wheels with 185/65R15 tires. Get installed replacement and winter-setup quotes for both actual vehicles, then compare the service schedules and insurance quotations. Do not assume a smaller wheel always produces a specific saving, but do not hide recurring costs inside a single monthly payment either.
Which one should you try first?
Start with Venue Preferred if its shorter body fits your parking situation and its included winter conveniences cover your needs. Start with Kicks SV FWD if automatic climate control, adaptive-distance cruise and its cabin layout are worth the actual completed price. The fuel ratings are close enough that fit and the full quote deserve more attention than a tiny theoretical annual saving.
