2026 Ford F-150 XLT vs 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT: Canadian Standard Engines, Hybrid and Diesel Paths

The 2026 Ford F-150 XLT and 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT are useful starting points for buyers who want more than a basic work truck without jumping to a luxury trim. The standard-engine comparison is close on published output; the optional powertrain paths are more distinctive. Ford offers a full hybrid, while Chevrolet offers a diesel.

Checked October 30, 2026, using Canadian manufacturer information. This is a specification-based guide, not a back-to-back road test. It compares ordinary XLT and LT, not an assumed fully optioned Ford, RST or LT Trail Boss.

Standard engines do not produce an obvious winner

XLT’s standard 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 makes 325 hp and 400 lb-ft with a 10-speed automatic. LT starts with TurboMax at 310 hp and 430 lb-ft with an 8-speed automatic. Sources: Ford Canada XLT specifications; Chevrolet Canada LT engine information.

The Ford has 15 more horsepower; the Chevrolet has 30 lb-ft more torque. Those numbers do not settle everyday drivability, towing suitability or ownership cost. Compare response and shifting on a representative route, then obtain the actual build’s ratings for the load you intend to carry.

Hybrid and diesel options should be separate comparisons

Ford lists PowerBoost full hybrid as available on XLT. Chevrolet lists a 5.3-litre V8 and Duramax diesel as LT alternatives; its 6.2-litre V8 availability list does not include ordinary LT. Sources: Ford engine alternatives; Chevrolet trim-specific engine availability.

If either alternative is the reason for shopping, request a complete quote for that configuration. Do not use the optional engine’s capability or consumption while retaining the standard-engine price. Likewise, do not import an RST or LT Trail Boss engine choice into LT.

Ford’s available hybrid can be configured with up to 7.2 kW of Pro Power Onboard export power. Confirm the actual output option and operating limits if running equipment is part of your plan. It is not a feature rating for every XLT. Source: Ford Canada hybrid/export-power description. Ford’s 2026 F-150 manual prohibits connecting the 2.4-kW or 7.2-kW vehicle power outlets to premises or the main electrical supply. Use the generator only outdoors: the gasoline engine can start automatically and emits carbon monoxide. Ford owner’s manual, page 218.

Use exact-build EnerGuide figures, local fuel prices, annual mileage and the configured purchase cost. Include relevant operating and maintenance requirements. A different powertrain is not automatically a saving.

Screens and cameras are separate decisions

XLT lists 12-inch centre and instrument displays. LT lists a 13.4-inch centre screen and a 12.3-inch driver display, with HD Surround Vision available through a Safety Package. Sources: Ford display information; Chevrolet LT equipment.

The larger Chevrolet centre screen is not proof that every camera is included. Put the desired camera views on the checklist and verify the exact equipment on both trucks. Try phone connection and everyday controls while parked; interface quality is not decided by diagonal size.

Match the cabin package before comparing the payment

Ford lists cloth 40/20/40 seating as standard, with several comfort upgrades optional. Chevrolet lists front buckets and a centre console as available on LT. Sources: Ford XLT seating; Chevrolet LT seating options.

Decide whether you need the front centre seating position or prefer a fixed console. Then verify heating, seat adjustment, climate controls and storage on the actual order sheets. Neither a showroom photograph nor a mid-level badge guarantees your desired layout.

Take regular passengers along, adjust the driving position and check rear access. Choose the cab and bed for your actual people and cargo, and confirm the complete truck fits your parking space.

Ratings and total costs belong to the final builds

For towing, obtain the actual loading label and configuration-specific trailer limit. Include passengers, accessories, cargo and tongue load. Identify the required hitch, brake controller and connectors. Model-family maxima and trailer-assistance features do not replace the rating check.

Request itemized quotes showing required equipment, engine upgrades, freight, fees, taxes and incentive eligibility. Compare borrowing totals if financing and budget insurance and tires alongside fuel.

The verdict

Start with XLT if its selected equipment package or optional hybrid electrical utility fits your use. Start with LT if its interface or available V8/diesel route is a better fit. For the standard gasoline trucks, let the actual seating, load requirements, driving impressions and final quotes decide rather than overstating small output differences.
