2026 Mazda CX-30 GS Kuro vs 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross LE Premium: Canadian Price Formats, Features and Fuel

The Canadian 2026 Mazda CX-30 GS Kuro AWD and 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross LE Premium AWD gas sit close enough in manufacturer base pricing to deserve a careful equipment comparison. Yet their equipment and fuel ratings tell different stories. This guide separates those issues instead of naming a value winner from one incomplete subtotal.

Start with the right price basis

Checked October 31, 2026, Mazda’s Canadian configurator lists the 2026 CX-30 GS Kuro AWD at C$34,400 MSRP with Ontario selected. Toyota’s Canadian configurator, currently set to Alberta, lists the 2026 gasoline Corolla Cross LE AWD at C$31,905 plus C$2,225 for LE Premium: C$34,130 before delivery and fees. Both figures exclude extra-cost paint, accessories, freight/PDI, taxes, registration, insurance and other charges; no incentive is deducted. Toyota’s separately listed Alberta block heater is also excluded. These are manufacturer base/package figures, not matching provincial drive-away quotes.

Mazda’s base MSRP is C$270 higher than Toyota’s MSRP-plus-Premium-package amount. That does not establish the out-the-door difference: the configurations were priced in different provinces and exclude delivery, fees and accessories. Obtain same-day itemized quotes for the same province and payment method before deciding which costs less.

What the packages buy

CX-30 GS Kuro has a naturally aspirated 186-hp, 186-lb-ft 2.5-litre engine, 6-speed automatic and AWD. Kuro adds a moonroof, power driver’s seat with memory and cloth/leatherette seating. GS provides a 10.25-inch display with wireless smartphone integration; touch operation applies to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Mazda 2026 equipment.

The gas Corolla Cross has a 169-hp 2.0-litre engine and CVT. LE Premium AWD adds 18-inch wheels, moonroof, roof rails, wireless phone charging and a 10.5-inch centre screen. Power-adjustable front seats, SofTex and the power tailgate are XLE upgrades, not features to assume here. Toyota 2026 trim breakdown.

The useful Mazda upgrade may be the seat—not the styling

For two drivers sharing one vehicle, memory adjustment can remove a daily inconvenience. Have both drivers find a comfortable position and test the recall function. Then compare the Toyota’s actual seat adjustment and support. A power seat is only an advantage if it helps you sit better; the material name does not establish long-term comfort or durability.

Try Mazda’s commander controls and Toyota’s touchscreen with the same phone tasks while parked. Enter a destination, change audio and return to navigation. The displays are similar in nominal size, but the interaction differs. Do not assume every Mazda menu is touch-operated just because phone projection supports touch.

Fuel consumption: match the ratings to your routes

The 2026 NRCan guide rates the non-turbo Mazda CX-30 AWD at 9.6 city, 7.5 highway and 8.7 combined L/100 km; this is the 2.5-litre, 6-speed automatic powertrain used by GS Kuro. The gas Toyota Corolla Cross AWD is rated at 8.1 city, 7.6 highway and 7.8 combined L/100 km, applicable to the LE Premium AWD configuration compared here. Mazda Canada ratings; Toyota Canada configuration; Toyota combined rating; NRCan 2026 fuel guide.

The highway ratings are nearly tied, with Mazda 0.1 L/100 km lower. Toyota has the lower city and combined ratings, by 1.5 and 0.9 L/100 km respectively, so looking only at highway consumption misses an important difference for mixed or urban driving. These are standardized ratings, not observed results or a promise of the fuel consumption you will see.

The C$270 base-price difference alone cannot establish a precise payback period. The final purchase totals are not established, actual fuel use varies, and insurance, tires and finance charges also matter. Use your completed quotes and realistic route mix instead.

Test the load and the response

Bring the luggage, stroller or mobility equipment you actually carry, with the rear seats positioned for passengers. Check access and loading rather than using unmatched cargo measurements to claim a winner. Drive both on the same route with similar loads; the Mazda’s higher horsepower does not by itself prove acceleration, refinement or reliability superiority.

Start with CX-30 GS Kuro if driver memory, its control approach and your test drive justify its package. Start with Corolla Cross LE Premium gas AWD if its equipment is sufficient and its fuel ratings suit your use. Compare the same price subtotal before deciding value.

After settling on the equipment you need, compare the written offers with our vehicle quote comparison guide, keeping vehicle price and borrowing costs separate.
