2026 Honda CR-V Touring Hybrid vs 2026 Kia Sportage HEV SX: Canadian City Efficiency or Cabin Equipment?

The 2026 Honda CR-V Touring Hybrid AWD and 2026 Kia Sportage HEV SX AWD give Canadian buyers a useful choice between different efficiency patterns and cabin equipment. Honda’s city and combined ratings are lower; Kia’s highway rating is lower, and its SX specification adds comfort and camera functions that deserve a demonstration.

Checked October 30, 2026, using Canadian manufacturer information. This guide compares conventional hybrids, not plug-in models, and Canadian Touring/SX trims rather than similarly named U.S. versions. It is not a back-to-back driving test.

Which fuel rating matters to your route?

Honda Touring Hybrid is rated at 6.0/6.9/6.4 L/100 km city/highway/combined. Kia lists Sportage HEV at 6.7/6.6/6.7. Sources: Honda Canada Touring ratings; Kia Canada hybrid specifications.

That gives Honda a 0.7-L/100-km city advantage, while Kia’s highway figure is 0.3 lower. Do not flatten that into a claim that one always uses less fuel. Use the rating that best represents your route, while recognizing that weather, loads and driving style affect actual results.

At an illustrative 20,000 km a year using the combined figures, Honda calculates to 1,280 litres and Kia to 1,340: a 60-litre difference. At an assumed $1.60/L, that is $96 annually. The fuel price is an example, not a current-price claim, and the result is not guaranteed. A material quote difference can matter much more.

The Kia’s equipment is worth evaluating directly

Canadian Sportage HEV SX includes air-cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a head-up display, surround/blind-view monitors and remote parking assistance. Its quilted upholstery is synthetic leather, and the Canadian SX uses 18-inch wheels. Source: Kia Canada SX equipment and trim table.

Honda Touring lists 19-inch wheels, a 9-inch centre display, 10.2-inch driver display, Google built-in, 12-speaker Bose audio, a multi-angle rear camera and front/rear parking sensors. Source: Honda Canada Touring specifications.

Parking sensors and a surround-view image solve related but different tasks. Try both systems in the kind of space you regularly use, and have assistance limitations explained. Neither system replaces checking around the vehicle.

Test seat support and ventilation, then compare routine controls while parked. Kia’s feature list may be attractive, while Honda’s interface may suit a particular buyer better; no subjective usability or audio-quality winner is established by counting screens or speakers.

Wheel size belongs in the ownership calculation

Ask for tire replacement quotes for the actual fitments. Drive the vehicles over representative pavement rather than assuming that the smaller or larger wheel automatically guarantees a better ride. Do not use U.S.-market Sportage SX wheel information to price Canadian tires.

If you have a material preference, inspect the exact seats rather than interpreting the word leather loosely. A synthetic upholstery specification is not a durability verdict; compare comfort, care requirements and the quoted configuration.

Different powertrains need a real test drive

Honda’s 2.0-litre two-motor hybrid system is rated at 204 total horsepower with an eCVT. Kia’s 1.6-litre turbo hybrid is rated at 232 combined horsepower with a six-speed automatic. Both selected trims have AWD. Sources: Honda engineering information; Kia powertrain information.

The Kia’s 28-hp published advantage is not a measured acceleration result. Compare low-speed response, ordinary highway merging, braking feel and engine noise on a similar route. A hybrid badge does not mean the two systems behave identically.

Family fit and the final price still come first

Bring the child seats, passengers and cargo you normally carry. Set the front seats, then check rear access and luggage loading. Inspect cargo-floor position and storage rather than treating a litre figure as a guarantee your stroller or suitcase will fit.

Request itemized quotes for these exact trims, including freight, fees, taxes and incentive eligibility. Compare insurance, tires and total borrowing cost alongside the small combined-rating fuel difference. Confirm connected-service terms before valuing an included screen or app feature.

The verdict

Start with CR-V Touring Hybrid if urban efficiency and the actual Honda cabin/interface best suit your routine. Start with Sportage HEV SX if its ventilation, camera package and Canadian wheel/cabin specification matter more. For highway-heavy use, note Kia’s lower published highway figure rather than assuming Honda’s combined advantage applies to every trip.

Use our vehicle ownership budget worksheet to test how much the CR-V and Sportage fuel-rating difference matters at your annual distance; keep that estimate separate from the price of the cabin equipment you prefer.
