The 2026 Audi Q3 Technik and 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 4MATIC approach compact luxury differently. The Audi makes a stronger case through its power output and included assistance equipment; the Mercedes starts with a useful comfort specification but requires closer attention to optional driving aids. Neither badge tells you whether the particular SUV on the lot has every feature you want.
This Canadian comparison uses the documented 2026 versions. Canadian 2027 specifications were not established for these two configurations during this check. It is a specification-based buying guide, not a back-to-back road test; no ride-quality or real-world fuel-economy winner is claimed.
Power is a difference; a mild-hybrid label is not a fuel verdict
Audi specifies a 255-hp, 273-lb-ft turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, seven-speed S tronic transmission and quattro AWD. Mercedes lists a 221-hp, 258-lb-ft turbocharged 2.0-litre mild-hybrid engine, eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and 4MATIC AWD. Sources: Audi Canada Q3 overview and Mercedes-Benz Canada GLA specifications.
The Audi’s higher published output is a reason to try it if passing response matters, not proof that its transmission will suit every driver better. On the same test route, check the response from a rolling start and the smoothness of parking-speed manoeuvres. Those are different questions from peak horsepower.
The GLA’s mild-hybrid description should not be confused with a plug-in vehicle or treated as a promise of long electric-only trips. Mercedes currently marks the Canadian city and highway fuel figures as TBD on the cited page, so this comparison does not invent an annual fuel-saving calculation. Ask for the applicable Canadian fuel label before assigning a running-cost advantage.
Compare assistance equipment before comparing payments
The Canadian Audi inventory specification for Technik lists adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go and Park assist plus. Mercedes lists Active Parking Assist and a rear camera as standard, but DISTRONIC adaptive cruise and a 360-degree camera as optional. The Audi evidence is the structured standard-equipment section, not the dealer’s promotional description: Canadian Q3 Technik equipment listing.
That makes highway assistance a potentially meaningful quote difference. If adaptive cruise is non-negotiable, ask the Mercedes retailer to identify the installed option on the actual vehicle before comparing its payment with the Audi. Conversely, do not pay for an assistance bundle merely because its name sounds comprehensive. Have the salesperson demonstrate the specific function you intend to use; parking assistance and following-distance control do different jobs.
Cabin choices worth testing in person
Audi provides an 11.9-inch driver display and 12.8-inch centre screen, with a sliding, reclining, 40/20/40 rear bench. Mercedes lists dual 10.25-inch displays and a reclining 40/20/40 rear seat. Both include a panoramic roof and heated front seats; the GLA also explicitly includes a heated steering wheel and power front seats with memory. The Technik equipment listing includes leather seating surfaces and three-zone climate control, while the GLA lists ARTICO upholstery.
A larger screen is not automatically easier to operate. Pair your phone, find a frequent destination and adjust a setting while parked. Then sit behind your own driving position. For a household carrying a child seat and long luggage, the rear-seat arrangement deserves more attention than the diagonal size of the display.
Bring the actual stroller or usual bags rather than choosing from maximum folded-seat volume. Moving a sliding bench to create luggage room can change passenger space, so check the Audi with the seat where your passengers will actually sit. Keep the front seats in realistic positions in both vehicles.
Which belongs on your shortlist?
Start with the Q3 Technik if the higher output, rear-seat flexibility and included adaptive cruise are priorities. Start with the GLA 250 if its seating, controls and standard comfort equipment fit you better, then price the assistance options you genuinely need. Neither recommendation requires assuming that one interior is universally more luxurious.
For the final decision, obtain itemized Canadian quotes for the actual stock vehicles, including freight, fees, taxes and installed packages. Compare the same financing term and down payment. Keep an inexpensive-looking base quote separate from the cost of the specification you intend to buy.
