The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Highline is a useful middle ground to examine in the three-row Atlas range. It adds cabin and convenience equipment over Comfortline without including every Execline feature. The first decision is still whether you need three rows: Atlas Cross Sport is a separate two-row vehicle, not another Highline package.

Engine and transmission
The 2024 Canadian Atlas uses a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder rated at 269 hp and 273 lb-ft, with an eight-speed automatic and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The previous VR6 is not the engine specification for this model year. Canadian 2024 powertrain announcement.
Highline equipment
Highline adds a panoramic sunroof, 20-inch wheels, leather seating, Harman Kardon audio, navigation, driver memory and heated outer second-row seats. Captain’s chairs are optional. Volkswagen Canada’s 2024 buyer’s guide.
The second-row layout deserves a personal check. If you use child seats, test third-row access with your intended installation rather than judging it with an empty cabin. Also check the room left for luggage when all required seats are occupied.
Technology and trim limits
The range includes a 12-inch infotainment screen, wireless phone integration and a heated steering wheel. Execline adds a head-up display and Area View cameras; those should not be described as standard Highline equipment. Canadian equipment matrix.
Try the controls and connect your phone before making a decision. Test the features you will use repeatedly, including climate adjustments, navigation and parking aids. A larger feature list is not necessarily a better fit if the controls do not suit you.
Fuel economy
NRCan has a separate Highline/Execline row, so the lowest Comfortline combined figure should not be substituted. These are Canadian ratings, not measurements from the video. NRCan 2024 data.
| 2024 Atlas 4MOTION trim | City L/100 km | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comfortline | 12.2 | 9.2 | 10.8 |
| Highline / Execline | 12.6 | 9.4 | 11.2 |
| Peak Edition | 13.0 | 9.7 | 11.5 |
At 20,000 km a year, Highline’s combined rating represents 2,240 litres. At an assumed $1.60 per litre, that is $3,584. This is an illustrative calculation, not a current fuel-price quote or a prediction for your route; cold weather, idling and loading change consumption.
Towing and loading
Volkswagen lists up to 2,268 kg (5,000 pounds) of braked towing with the towing package, excluding the mount and ball. Verify the individual vehicle’s equipment, limits and payload before towing. Towing specification.
Passengers, luggage and trailer tongue weight need to be considered together. Do not assume that seating every passenger and filling every cargo space leaves enough capacity for any trailer below the headline maximum.
Canadian trim comparison
Current Canadian manufacturer pricing for these exact 2024 configurations has not been verified as of October 31, 2026. Vehicle prices, fee amounts and price differences are omitted; the table compares equipment only.
| 2024 Atlas trim | Equipment focus |
|---|---|
| Comfortline | 18-inch wheels, 12-inch touchscreen and three-zone climate control |
| Peak Edition | All-terrain tires, black 18-inch wheels and orange interior stitching |
| Highline | Leather, sunroof and upgraded audio |
| Execline R-Line | R-Line styling, head-up display and Area View |
The equipment distinctions follow Volkswagen’s Canadian matrix. The table is not a current manufacturer price quote or a price list for individual upgrades.
Who should consider Highline?
Highline is worth comparing if its added seating, audio and sunroof equipment matters to you but Execline’s extra technology does not. For a used example, condition, service records and a VIN-specific recall check should be part of the decision alongside the trim level.
Check the VIN for outstanding recalls. Transport Canada recall 2024354 concerns certain Atlas vehicles, including model year 2024, whose passenger detection system can switch off the front passenger airbag despite an occupant. Volkswagen advises not using that seat if a PODS error appears or the airbag indicator says “passenger airbag off” with someone seated. The repair replaces the sensor mat and seat harness. Confirm whether the individual VIN is affected and repaired; this is not a complete recall list.
