The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Comfortline makes the most sense to compare when you want two rows rather than a third row you rarely use. Comfortline is the starting trim, but that does not mean every useful comfort feature requires a step up to Highline.

Engine and transmission
The Canadian 2024 specification is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 269 hp and 273 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed automatic and standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive. Canadian model introduction.
Comfortline equipment
The Canadian guide lists heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a power liftgate, a 12-inch touchscreen and wireless phone integration on Comfortline. 2024 Canadian Cross Sport buyer’s guide.
That makes the upgrade decision more specific than “base trim versus luxury trim.” Start by testing the equipment already included. You may prefer to spend on the exact seating or audio features you want rather than assuming the entry version needs several packages.
Body and practical use
Volkswagen gives Cross Sport a 4,966 mm overall length. Its two-row layout should be evaluated on its own merits rather than treated as a substitute for three-row seating. Cross Sport dimensions.
Try your normal luggage with the rear seats in use. Maximum cargo measurements with seats folded do not answer how much you can carry with passengers aboard. Check rear-seat access and the loading opening, and confirm the vehicle fits your parking space with the liftgate open.
Fuel economy
NRCan’s 2024 Atlas Cross Sport 4MOTION row lists 12.2 L/100 km city, 9.2 highway and 10.8 combined. These agree with the Comfortline city/highway figures in the Canadian buyer’s guide; actual consumption varies with conditions. NRCan 2024 ratings; Comfortline fuel-rating note.
| 2024 Cross Sport Comfortline reference | L/100 km |
|---|---|
| City | 12.2 |
| Highway | 9.2 |
| Combined | 10.8 |
At an illustrative 20,000 km a year, 10.8 L/100 km represents 2,160 litres. Calculate cost with the fuel price you actually pay, and leave room for winter use, idling, loading and different routes. Do not use a three-row Atlas trim’s rating as a substitute.
Towing and loading
The Canadian guide lists up to 2,268 kg (5,000 pounds) of braked towing and notes that the mount and ball are not included. Confirm the installed equipment, individual ratings and loaded combination before towing. Canadian towing information.
Passenger weight, cargo and trailer tongue weight must be assessed together. The headline towing limit does not establish how much payload remains with your household and luggage on board.
Canadian trim comparison
Historical 2024 Canadian MSRP references reported September 28, 2023, checked October 29, 2026. CAD base prices exclude freight, fees, taxes and options; they are not current offers. All rows are Cross Sport, not three-row Atlas. Original Canadian trim pricing.
| 2024 Cross Sport trim | Original MSRP | Difference | What the step adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comfortline | $48,895 | Reference | Heated/ventilated front seats, heated wheel, power liftgate and 12-inch screen |
| Highline | $55,895 | $7,000 more | Leather, panoramic sunroof and Harman Kardon audio |
| Execline R-Line | $58,895 | $10,000 more | Adds head-up display, Area View and R-Line styling |
Equipment distinctions are from Volkswagen’s Canadian guide. The extra money is buying specific amenities, not a different base engine. Compare your priorities with the actual used vehicle’s options, condition and maintenance record.
Is Comfortline enough?
Comfortline is a reasonable place to start if you want the Cross Sport layout and can do without the higher trims’ additional cabin and camera equipment. Make the decision after trying both configurations rather than assuming the highest trim is automatically best for daily use.
