2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Long Range AWD

The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Long Range AWD combines the IONIQ 5’s hatchback-style practicality with a dual-motor electric powertrain. Choosing it over the rear-wheel-drive model involves more than the AWD badge: purchase price, rated range, charging access and optional cabin equipment all deserve a separate comparison.

Models available

The Canadian model summary lists Preferred Long Range, Preferred Long Range AWD and the AWD model with Ultimate equipment. AWD does not, by itself, identify an Ultimate-equipped car. Check the build sheet before treating a panoramic roof, upgraded audio or head-up display as included. Hyundai Canada 2024 model summary, preserved PDF.

Electric powertrain

The Long Range battery is 77.4 kWh. Published output is 225 hp for rear-wheel drive and 320 hp for the dual-motor AWD version. The Canadian summary also lists a heat pump, battery heating and preconditioning. These are 2024 specifications, not figures borrowed from a newer IONIQ 5. 2024 powertrain specifications.

Range and charging

Natural Resources Canada rates the 2024 Long Range AWD at 410 km and 21.5 kWh/100 km combined. These are standardized ratings, not a promise of winter or highway range. The RWD model’s longer advertised range should not be used as the AWD car’s rating. NRCan 2024 Fuel Consumption Guide.

At 20,000 km, the combined rating corresponds to about 4,300 kWh. Multiply that by the charging rates you actually expect to pay; home electricity and public fast charging can produce very different budgets. This calculation is a planning tool, not a guaranteed bill.

Before buying, map charging stops on your regular long trips and establish where the car will charge overnight. A station advertised at 350 kW does not mean the vehicle accepts 350 kW continuously. Battery temperature, charge level and the station itself influence a session, so a single best-case charging claim is not enough to plan every stop.

Interior and practicality

The equipment summary distinguishes cloth upholstery and 19-inch wheels from available Ultimate leatherette and 20-inch wheels. Larger wheels and extra cabin equipment are separate purchasing choices rather than requirements for getting AWD. Canadian equipment distinctions.

For a family car, bring the items that normally travel with you. Try the rear seating with the front seats set for your drivers, then load a stroller or luggage with the rear seats raised. The shape of the cargo opening can matter more than a volume figure. Also check rear visibility and whether the charging-port position works with your parking arrangement.

Infotainment and connectivity

The 2024 summary lists a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch instrument display, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Pair your phone during the inspection and check its connection requirements; do not assume later-model wireless functionality applies. 2024 display and connectivity equipment.

Safety and driver assistance

Ask for a demonstration of the assistance systems fitted to the actual car, including their controls and warnings. Package names and promotional images are not substitutes for a build sheet. Driver assistance does not remove the need to watch the road, and AWD does not replace appropriate tires for winter braking.

Have Hyundai check the VIN and repair history for Transport Canada recall 2024701, which includes certain 2024 IONIQ 5 vehicles. A damaged integrated charging control unit can stop charging the 12-volt battery, leading to reduced power and potentially loss of drive if the vehicle continues operating. Warning lights and messages appear before a loss of power. This recall replaces 2024174; affected vehicles repaired under that earlier campaign still need the newer repair. The dealer updates software and checks whether the charging unit or its fuse needs replacement. Confirm VIN applicability rather than assuming every vehicle is affected.

Choosing a configuration

The regular AWD model is the useful starting point if the dual-motor powertrain is the priority. Treat the Ultimate premium as a separate decision: try its convenience features and decide whether they justify the additional cost for your household. If AWD is not essential, compare the RWD model’s price and range before automatically moving up.

Does Long Range AWD mean Ultimate?

No. The powertrain and equipment package are separate distinctions. Confirm the package on the vehicle’s own documentation.

Is 410 km a winter-range guarantee?

No. It is the standardized Canadian rating. Leave a practical charging margin for weather, speed, heating and route conditions.
