The 2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime XSE pairs a plug-in hybrid powertrain with additional cabin and exterior equipment over SE. The important distinction is between an ordinary XSE and an XSE with the Technology Package: the badge alone does not prove that the more expensive features are fitted.

Models available
The Canadian Prime range consists of SE AWD and XSE AWD, with a Technology Package available on XSE. The regular RAV4 Hybrid XSE is a separate, non-plug-in model. Canadian 2023 Prime matrix.
Plug-in hybrid powertrain
Prime uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid system, E-CVT and AWD, with 302 hp combined output. Its published charging hardware includes a 6.6-kW AC charger. Canadian powertrain specifications.
Electric driving and charging
Toyota advertised up to 68 km of electric-only driving for the 2023 Prime. That is a published range figure, not a guarantee in winter or a result from this video. Toyota Canada range announcement.
The useful question is how often you can replenish the battery. Map your regular trips against charging opportunities at home or work, and compare the electricity cost with the fuel you would otherwise use. Frequent uncharged driving changes the value calculation considerably.
An AC charging-power rating is not a promise that every outlet can supply that power. Check the charging equipment, circuit and cable arrangement before purchase. Ask the seller to demonstrate charging and supply the included equipment; a charge-port photo is not proof that the system works correctly.
Interior and practicality
Standard XSE uses a mix of SofTex and fabric and has 19-inch wheels. The Technology Package adds features including ventilated front seats, a head-up display and a panoramic roof. These should not be assumed from an XSE title alone. Canadian package breakdown.
Infotainment and safety
The standard Canadian XSE reference lists an 8-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch instrument display. The Technology Package adds upgraded multimedia and JBL audio. Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is the applicable 2023 system, not a later model’s version. Canadian 2023 equipment announcement.
Toyota’s product summary warns that some 2023 vehicles originally specified with a digital rear-view mirror were built with an auto-dimming mirror instead because of supply shortages. Inspect the actual mirror rather than treating the published XSE feature list as build confirmation. Manufacturer supply-change footnote.

|---|---|---|---|
| SE AWD | $49,390 | −$4,960 | Same Prime powertrain; lower equipment level. |
| XSE AWD | $54,350 | Reference | 19-inch wheels and upgraded cabin treatment. |
| XSE AWD Technology Package | $59,740 | +$5,390 | Ventilation, surround-view camera, HUD and other technology upgrades. |

Choosing a trim
Start with charging access and the actual purchase premium over a non-plug-in alternative. Then decide whether the XSE equipment adds enough value over SE. If buying used, price missing or damaged accessories before agreeing that a particular example is a bargain.
Does XSE automatically include the Technology Package?
No. It is a separate package in the Canadian 2023 range. Verify the build and equipment before paying for it.
