The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 4MATIC SUV is an electric luxury SUV, not the similarly named EQS sedan. Its Canadian specification combines all-wheel drive with the option of an extra seating row, making it important to compare body style and seating layout as carefully as the badge.

Electric power and model identity
The Canadian 2023 introduction identifies the EQS 450 4MATIC SUV with two electric motors and 355 hp. Canadian model introduction, December 20, 2022. It should not be described using the rear-drive 450+ specification or the EQS sedan’s figures.
The 580 is a separate, more powerful choice. NRCan lists the 450 SUV at 265 kW and the 580 SUV at 400 kW. Canadian 2023 electric-vehicle ratings. Those are vehicle power ratings, not charger speeds. For a purchase, make sure the listing, build information and insurance quote identify the same model.
Battery, range and charging
Mercedes-Benz Canada’s 2023 preview specifies a 107.8-kWh battery, DC charging capability up to 200 kW and a 9.6-kW onboard charger. Manufacturer Canadian 2023 preview. Battery capacity and charging power describe different things; a 200-kW charger does not mean the battery holds 200 kWh.
NRCan’s February 8, 2023 guide lists 459 km of range for the EQS 450 4MATIC SUV. Exact-year Canadian range reference. This standardized rating is not a promise of distance in cold weather. The early manufacturer preview’s WLTP estimate uses another test method and should not replace the Canadian figure.
Plan charging around your parking arrangement and regular trips. Confirm a suitable home installation, find convenient public alternatives and allow extra time for cold conditions or busy charging stops. The vehicle, charger, battery temperature and state of charge all matter; a peak charging specification is not a constant charging rate.
Seating and cabin technology
The Canadian manufacturer preview describes a third row with two additional seats as optional. Canadian seating and design information. Do not assume every EQS SUV is a seven-seater. Check the actual seating configuration and the space left for luggage when every required seat is in use.
The same preview describes the MBUX Hyperscreen as available within the SUV range. That is not evidence that it is standard on the 450 or installed on the vehicle shown here. Inspect the actual dashboard and option list rather than applying a later model year’s equipment policy to a 2023 example.
What to verify before buying
Confirm the original equipment list, charging cable supplied, vehicle software status and any connected-service subscriptions. The Canadian 2023 EQS SUV owner documentation is a useful operating reference, but a manual can cover equipment not installed on every vehicle.
Canadian model comparison and pricing
These Canadian starting-price references come from the same dealer introduction dated December 20, 2022, checked October 29, 2026. They are historical model references, not current offers or an all-in quote. The article does not itemize every fee; obtain freight/PDI, taxes, applicable charges and options separately before comparing a transaction total.
| 2023 Canadian SUV | Historical starting reference (CAD) | Main reason to compare |
|---|---|---|
| EQS 450 4MATIC | $136,000 | Dual-motor AWD; 265-kW published vehicle power rating. |
| EQS 580 4MATIC | $158,500 | Dual-motor AWD with a 400-kW published vehicle power rating; cabin options remain a separate comparison. |
Source: Dated Canadian introduction. The published starting-price gap is $22,500. That gap is not a quote for upgrading one particular 450: packages, seating and other equipment must also match. The comparison deliberately excludes the sedan and U.S.-market 450+.
