The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss Extended Range and GMC Sierra EV AT4 Extended Range share a broad rough-road brief, but the GMC’s higher reference price needs to be justified by equipment you will use. The useful comparison is not between the largest range numbers on their homepages. It is between these two specific Extended Range configurations, their cabins and their complete quotes.
Canadian 2026 configuration records identify Chevrolet style 472290 and GMC style 471585. Exact Canadian 2027 equivalents have not been established here, so this is a clearly labelled 2026 comparison. It does not reuse the Standard Range LT/Elevation or Max Range LT/Denali configurations, and it is researched buying analysis rather than a claimed back-to-back test.
The reference price gap is $12,000—not a range-upgrade price
On October 30, 2026, the Canadian configuration records displayed $94,098 for Trail Boss Extended Range and $106,098 for AT4 Extended Range. Both use the same price-disclosure wording: freight, $100 A/C charge, up to $699 dealer fee, applicable estimated federal luxury tax and other specified fees are included; sales tax, licence, insurance and registration are extra. Region and dealer can change the actual amount. These are manufacturer configuration references, not matched dealer offers.
The arithmetic difference is $12,000. Both selected records identify Extended Range, so that difference should not be described as the cost of moving from an Extended battery to Max Range. The comparable build links are Chevrolet’s selected Trail Boss configuration and GMC’s selected AT4 configuration.
Before deciding whether the gap is reasonable, price any Chevrolet upgrades you want and remove unwanted GMC dealer accessories from the comparison. A truck already in inventory may not match either reference configuration. Keep the trade allowance and finance terms separate from the vehicle price.
Shared trail-oriented features do not make the GMC automatically more capable
Both manufacturers describe a two-inch lift, 18-inch wheels with roughly 35-inch all-terrain tires and four-wheel steering for these trims. Chevrolet calls its diagonal low-speed function Sidewinder; GMC uses CrabWalk. Their names alone do not establish that one is more useful on a particular trail. Chevrolet Canada’s 2026 Trail Boss description and GMC Canada’s 2026 AT4 description.
Try the low-speed steering functions in an appropriate demonstration area, following the operating instructions. Then consider how often they would help on your routes. Neither a lift nor diagonal steering proves safe passage through an unfamiliar obstacle. This comparison does not claim one truck has superior trail performance without a matched test.
The cabin is where the AT4 makes its more obvious case
GMC’s AT4 page identifies ventilated front seats and heated rear outboard seats, while the selected Chevrolet feature list specifies heated front seats. The exact GMC record also lists a power-adjustable front passenger seat and head-up display; Chevrolet’s specific passenger-seat entry is four-way manual. Its steering column is manual, versus a powered column listed for AT4. Selected Canadian AT4 equipment record; selected Canadian Trail Boss equipment record.
Those are meaningful things to test with both regular front occupants. A powered passenger seat matters only if its adjustment range improves the fit. Rear-seat heating matters more to someone regularly carrying passengers than to a driver who almost always travels alone. Put a personal value on those benefits rather than assuming every extra feature earns back its cost.
The configuration data includes generic option-dependency notes, and Chevrolet’s generic bucket-seat description conflicts with its more specific adjustment entries. Use the specific entries for this comparison and confirm the delivered truck’s window label before signing. Do not assume a broadly worded seat description establishes a fully powered cabin.
A multifunction tailgate is not a Midgate
AT4’s selected record includes the six-function MultiPro tailgate. Trail Boss’s selected record has a conventional tailgate with lift/lower assistance. Test loading and step access with the equipment you actually carry, including any fitted hitch accessory. A multifunction tailgate can be useful without changing the truck’s allowable cargo weight.
Do not confuse that with a Midgate, which opens between the cabin and bed. GMC’s AT4 Premium package lists the Midgate and additional camera/trailering equipment. Those features should not silently appear in the base AT4 comparison just because an advertising image shows them. Ask for the exact package contents on both quotes.
Charging is clearer than the conflicting range copy
The exact Extended Range equipment records list up to 300 kW DC charging capability and 11.5 kW onboard AC charging for both selected trucks. A shared maximum does not guarantee identical charging curves or stop lengths. Battery temperature, starting charge, equipment and station output affect the result. Do not borrow a Max Range truck’s 350-kW capability or advertised ten-minute range addition.
No numerical range winner is declared here. GMC’s Canadian overview and AT4-specific page currently give different Extended Range estimates. The configuration record establishes the selected battery designation but does not resolve that discrepancy. Verify the current Canadian label and exact build before using a range difference to choose between them; no number is substituted from a US model or another battery.
For ownership, price home electrical work and the charging equipment needed for your installation. The vehicle’s AC capability is not a promise that an existing outlet or supplied cord can deliver it. Map your repeated long trips, including compatible backup charging locations and the effect of towing or winter conditions.
The decision should survive a complete cost comparison
There is no verified annual electricity-cost advantage here that can repay the GMC premium. Use actual or applicable rated consumption, charging losses and your home/public charging mix before calculating running costs. Obtain insurance and replacement-tire quotes for the exact trucks, and check payload and trailer documentation rather than applying a model-range towing headline.
Use the vehicle quote and total-cost guide to compare the completed builds. Start with Trail Boss if its cabin adjustment and tailgate meet your needs. Consider AT4 when its passenger comfort, head-up display and multifunction tailgate are worth the actual remaining price difference. Neither conclusion requires inventing a range advantage or assuming a more expensive badge is better off-road.
