The 2026 Ford Maverick Tremor and Lobo make the same compact-truck idea useful in different ways. Tremor is the choice to investigate for rough-road hardware; Lobo puts the emphasis on steering, suspension and its driver-focused transmission. The important buying question is whether those differences fit your actual routine after the appearance has won your attention.
This comparison uses verified Canadian 2026 specifications. Canadian retailers have begun listing 2027 Mavericks, but sufficiently complete Canadian 2027 trim-equipment evidence was not established for this comparison. Do not apply the prices or equipment below to a 2027 order. This is researched buying analysis, not a claim that the two trucks were driven back-to-back.
Same engine category, different controls
Both use a 250-hp, 2.0-litre EcoBoost gasoline engine and Ford’s Advanced 4WD. Tremor has an eight-speed automatic. Lobo uses a seven-speed quick-shift transmission with paddles, performance-oriented steering and suspension, and enhanced brakes. Its special Lobo mode is designated for track use, not public-road driving. Neither of these configurations is a hybrid. See Ford Canada’s Tremor specifications and Lobo specifications.
The transmission distinction is worth a normal-road test, but it does not establish a measured acceleration or lap-time winner. Try low-speed manoeuvres, merging and your usual commuting route. If the Lobo’s appeal depends on track use, investigate the venue requirements, preparation, consumables and applicable coverage before assigning that feature a dollar value.
Choose the hardware for the places you actually go
Tremor’s Canadian list includes off-road suspension, skid plates, exposed front tow hooks, a lockable rear drive unit and Trail Control with Trail 1-Pedal Drive. Its standard tires are 235/65R17 all-terrains. Lobo uses 225/55R19 tires on its standard 19-inch turbofan-style wheels; the alternate machined-face wheels are optional.
Ask yourself how often the truck will leave maintained pavement and what the roughest access road actually looks like. Bring photographs or measurements of a difficult entrance to the dealer rather than assuming a trim badge solves the problem. Conversely, if nearly every kilometre is a commute on pavement, try the Lobo over the broken surfaces and driveway transitions you encounter daily. Neither wheel size nor suspension branding proves which truck will feel more comfortable to you.
Get installed replacement-tire quotes for the exact sizes, and plan winter equipment separately. Do not assume an all-terrain label answers every cold-weather requirement or that the larger wheel necessarily creates a particular annual expense. The relevant number is a suitable, correctly rated tire package priced for your truck.
Neither is the 4,000-lb towing Maverick
The model-specific Canadian pages give both trucks a 2,000-lb maximum towing figure. Advertised maximum payload is 1,140 lb for Tremor and 1,045 lb for Lobo. Ford’s general lineup FAQ contains a conflicting broader 4K-package statement; this article uses the trim-specific limits rather than transferring another Maverick’s rating.
That advertised payload difference is only 95 lb, or about 43 kg. It should not substitute for reading the label on the actual truck. Load the calculation with people, accessories, cargo and trailer tongue weight before deciding whether either version has enough margin. If the intended loaded trailer exceeds the applicable limit, neither styling preference resolves the mismatch. A receiver or an added controller does not by itself authorize a higher tow rating.
Match cabin equipment before calling the Lobo cheaper
Tremor lists heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, B&O audio and a 360-degree camera as standard. Ford lists those features as optional on Lobo. The comparison therefore starts with the standard Lobo, not an assumption that a more highly equipped showroom example represents every truck bearing the name.
Create a short must-have list before requesting prices. If seat heat and camera coverage matter more than the wheel design, compare a Lobo actually equipped with them against Tremor. Ask for the equipment group and individual options in writing; do not transfer a package description from a 2025 video or a US order guide. Check the rear seat with your passengers and test storage with the items you normally keep inside.
Canadian price and fuel numbers put the decision in perspective
On October 30, 2026, Ford Canada’s 2026 model-selection page displayed starting prices of C$44,495 for Lobo and C$50,695 for Tremor: a C$6,200 spread. These are dated advertised starting figures, not matched, fully equipped transaction quotes or a promise of today’s dealer selling price. A complete local fee breakdown has not been confirmed for these starting figures. Confirm freight/PDI treatment, levies, options, sales tax, licensing and any incentive conditions on the written offer rather than adding charges that may already be included.
The 2026 Natural Resources Canada fuel guide lists Tremor at 11.2 city, 8.7 highway and 10.1 combined L/100 km; Lobo is 11.2, 7.8 and 9.7 respectively. The city ratings match. At 20,000 km using the combined ratings, the calculated difference is 80 litres annually. At an illustrative C$1.60–C$2.00 per litre, that is C$128–C$160, not a forecast of your bill. Weather, loading and driving change the result.
Those fuel numbers are useful scale, but they do not price the equipment difference. Use our vehicle-quote comparison guide to match the Lobo’s required options with Tremor’s standard equipment. Then put your actual tire, service and insurance estimates into the ownership budget worksheet. Avoid treating the starting-price gap as the cost of suspension hardware alone.
The practical choice
Choose Tremor if its rough-road equipment addresses a recurring need and the included cabin features match your priorities. Put Lobo first if you want its driver controls and road-focused setup, provided the actual cabin specification and everyday usability work for you. If you need substantially more trailer capacity or want hybrid fuel use, reopen the shortlist instead of forcing either specialist Maverick into the wrong job.
