The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser Premium and 2026 Defender 110 P400 X-Dynamic SE are worth comparing as five-seat SUVs for people who want more than an urban crossover. The Toyota combines a full-hybrid powertrain with clearly identified off-road hardware. The selected Defender combines a mild-hybrid six-cylinder with a heavily equipped Canadian configuration. They are not equipment-identical alternatives, and treating them that way would hide the most important buying decisions.
The Defender uses a documented Canadian 2026 inventory configuration because the exact 2027 configuration was not fully established for this guide. Land Rover Canada now lists 2027 models; that does not make their equipment interchangeable with this vehicle. The comparison is specification-based, not a personal off-road or road-test verdict.
Full hybrid and mild hybrid mean different things
Toyota’s Canadian 2027 announcement specifies 326 combined horsepower and 465 lb-ft for the Land Cruiser’s hybrid system. The Canadian Defender record, VIN SALE27EU5T2661206, lists a 395-horsepower 3.0-litre inline-six, mild-hybrid hardware and an eight-speed automatic. Neither vehicle here is a plug-in model.
The Defender has the higher listed horsepower, but that does not establish a towing, fuel-cost or real-world acceleration winner. Hybrid systems and peak engine figures do not all describe the same operating situation. Drive both with a realistic load and compare how they respond at the speeds you actually use, especially when joining traffic or climbing a long hill.
A Toyota hybrid badge is not a promise that the gasoline engine stays off throughout a journey, and the Defender’s mild-hybrid label is not a claim of long electric-only trips. If running costs are central to the decision, obtain the applicable Canadian consumption labels and use the same distance and fuel-price assumptions. This guide does not manufacture savings from unlike efficiency figures.
Hardware matters more than the adventure photograph
The Canadian Land Cruiser product summary identifies a rear locking differential and front stabilizer disconnect. The selected Defender record identifies a two-speed transfer case, selectable terrain modes and air suspension. These are different pieces of hardware with different purposes; their presence does not by itself establish which vehicle suits a particular route.
Ask for a clear explanation of when and how the relevant functions are used, including their limitations. If you are new to off-road travel, a suitable training session is more useful than choosing from a dramatic marketing image. Plan routes that match your experience and equipment, and do not treat an electronic mode as protection against unsuitable terrain.
Wheel choice deserves equal attention. The Land Cruiser Premium specification uses 20-inch wheels, while this particular Defender is listed on 22-inch wheels. Neither diameter alone settles suitability, but the tire construction, replacement availability and approved alternative sizes matter if damaged surfaces are part of the plan. Confirm the exact tire, not just the wheel design.
A package comparison, not two starting prices
Toyota’s Premium package adds leather upholstery and heated, ventilated rear seats. The selected Defender lists Windsor leather, heated rear seats, a head-up display and additional interior equipment. The Defender is therefore an example configuration, not a claim that all X-Dynamic SE vehicles include every comfort feature shown in its listing.
Build a short list of the features you genuinely need. A household carrying adults in the back may value rear ventilation; someone who usually travels with bags may prefer to put the money elsewhere. Ask each retailer to identify the equipment codes on the actual vehicle and explain any package dependencies before comparing the total cost.
Both selected layouts have five seats. That makes them sensible alternatives for a five-person household, but seat count does not prove equal passenger room. Set the front seats for the usual occupants, fit the child restraints if needed and load the normal luggage. Do not allow a photograph of a different Defender seating arrangement to replace that check.
Put the two price types on the same footing
Checked October 31, 2026, Toyota Canada’s configurator listed a C$80,460 base MSRP plus C$6,375 for the Premium Package, giving C$86,835 before freight, fees and taxes for the 2027 Land Cruiser Premium. The illustrated Ontario build had no paid accessories or protection plans. Licensing and insurance are also additional. This is a manufacturer price basis, not a negotiated retailer offer.
On October 30, 2026, the selling retailer’s listing for this Defender VIN showed C$123,088 before a C$7,500 client incentive, or C$115,588 plus GST. That is a dated, vehicle-specific advertised offer—not a Canadian trim starting price. Confirm availability, eligibility and the final itemized total before relying on it.
The Toyota estimate and this Alberta Defender listing are different kinds of prices. Do not present their subtraction as a national saving: reconcile province, fees, accessories and incentive eligibility first. Use our vehicle quote comparison guide to request two complete offers for the actual configurations. Keep the cost of any approved alternative wheels or tires visible; an attractive payment does not answer whether the delivered vehicle is equipped for your planned route.
Leave capability margins in the plan
A trailer, roof platform or collection of accessories changes the load carried by the vehicle. Verify the exact build’s ratings and labels rather than taking a model-family maximum from a brochure. The same applies to suspension and differential features: this comparison does not borrow equipment from Defender X or OCTA, nor add hardware to the Toyota because another version has it.
Shortlist the Land Cruiser Premium if its full-hybrid layout and documented equipment fit your use without extensive customization. Shortlist the selected Defender if its six-cylinder response and specific comfort configuration are worth the additional specification work. Compare written Canadian quotes, actual delivery details and the cost of any necessary tires or accessories, not merely the two badges.
