An off-road badge can answer the wrong question. A truck that spends its week hauling equipment and its weekend reaching a cottage does not necessarily need the same hardware as one that regularly crosses deep ruts or climbs uneven access tracks. The 2027 Ram 2500 Warlock and 2027 Ford F-250 XLT Tremor make that distinction unusually clear.
The Ram combines a straightforward work-truck foundation with all-terrain tires and additional traction equipment. The Ford’s Tremor package goes further into purpose-built off-road hardware. Neither description makes one a universal winner: the useful decision is whether the extra equipment solves a problem you actually encounter, without compromising the load, comfort or operating budget you need every day.
This is a Canadian specification comparison, checked October 31, 2026—not a claim that these exact trucks were driven together. The selected Ram is a documented Canadian Crew Cab 4×4 short-box Warlock with the high-output Cummins diesel. The Ford is a proposed Crew Cab 4×4, 6¾-foot-box XLT with the high-output Power Stroke and Tremor package, not a verified inventory VIN.
Know exactly what is being compared
The Ram is VIN 3C63R5CL1VG396195. Its factory equipment documents identify a 2027 model, the Warlock package on a Tradesman foundation, and several extra options. That distinction matters: a Warlock on another lot may have the same exterior identity without this example’s larger screen or climate-control equipment. Ram factory sticker.
Ford’s Canadian 2027 XLT page lists the high-output diesel as an option, and the Canadian model overview identifies Tremor availability on XLT. The intended combination still needs a completed Canadian order sheet before purchase. Do not compare a gas XLT’s starting configuration with the diesel Ram and assume the equipment or cost difference is settled. Ford XLT, Ford model overview.

Warlock: useful hardware, without borrowing another truck’s reputation
The selected Ram’s package includes Hill Descent Control and the anti-spin rear axle alongside its tire-and-wheel combination. The same-VIN build sheet identifies performance-tuned front and rear shocks. It does not establish a selectable rear locker, a front locker or a factory suspension lift. Ram equipment listing.
That is the important boundary around the Warlock name. Equipment associated with the Ram 1500 Warlock, Power Wagon or another HD trim cannot simply be credited to this truck. You are buying the components installed on the vehicle, not a collection of features found elsewhere in the brand’s off-road advertising.
For a maintained gravel approach, occasional muddy entrance or uneven worksite, this may be the more relevant starting point. That is a use-case assessment, not a trail-performance result. Ask where your current truck actually struggles: tire grip, exposed components, a steep descent, or clearance over a particular obstacle? Each answer points toward a different solution.
Tremor: the more comprehensive off-road specification
Ford’s Canadian 2027 Tremor description adds a limited-slip front differential, factory lift, skid plates and water-fording vent tubes to the locking rear axle and larger tires. It also lists Trail Control, Trail Turn Assist and Rock Crawl Mode. These are substantive package differences, not merely decals or dark wheels. Ford’s Canadian 2027 package description.
The specification-based case for the Ford is strongest when clearance and controlled low-speed progress are recurring needs. A selectable rear locker is a different tool from an anti-spin differential; neither its presence nor an electronic aid guarantees that a loaded truck will complete a route safely. Ask for a demonstration of when each system can be engaged, what restrictions apply and how the controls behave together.
Do not confuse Tremor with the separately named XL Off-Road 35-Inch Tire Package. Nor should a large tire be treated as a substitute for checking underbody protection. Package names can sound similar while specifying different equipment.
No exact ground-clearance, approach-angle or water-depth advantage is assigned here: those measurements have not been independently matched to both selected 2027 configurations. Vent tubes are not permission to cross unknown water. A route with uncertain depth, current or a hidden drop remains a route to avoid, not an opportunity to test the badge.
Tires, height and the everyday compromises
The wheel sizes reverse the impression some buyers take from a showroom: the Ram has the larger wheel, while Tremor has the larger advertised tire diameter. Wheel diameter alone does not describe the rubber between the rim and the road, the tread, or a tire’s suitability for the job.
Before ordering, compare replacement availability in the specified size and load rating near the places you actually travel. Check the spare’s size and permitted use too; the Ram sticker lists an 18-inch steel spare wheel, so assuming every wheel matches the four visible 20-inch wheels would be a mistake. Tire pressures and replacement specifications should come from the vehicle label and applicable instructions, not a generic off-road recommendation.
Height also has consequences after the interesting part of the trip. Try entering the cab in work boots, reaching into the bed from the side, and loading an awkward toolbox. Measure the garage entrance and any regular parking structure. A suspension package that helps at an obstacle can still require compromises during ordinary errands; no measured entry-height or parking-clearance comparison is claimed here.
All-terrain lettering alone does not establish winter stopping performance. Inspect the exact installed tire’s winter suitability and plan around your province and route rather than assuming four-wheel drive makes the tire decision for you.
Diesel power: a clear output difference, not a towing verdict
Ram Canada’s 2027 capability information rates the high-output Cummins at 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft, paired with the eight-speed automatic. Ford lists 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft for its high-output Power Stroke; the selected XLT uses a ten-speed automatic. Ram diesel specifications, Ford engine specifications.
The Ford therefore leads the published engine-output comparison. What those numbers do not tell us is how the two completed trucks feel with your trailer on a particular grade, how often they shift, or which is quieter at cruising speed. Those require comparable testing. More gears are not, by themselves, evidence of smoother operation or lower fuel consumption.
For shopping purposes, use the engine figures to frame a demonstration rather than finish the decision. With an appropriately arranged and permitted test, pay attention to low-speed control, visibility, braking feel and how naturally the controls work. An impressive torque number will not make an awkward seating position or an unsuitable load rating disappear.
Payload comes before the off-road wish list
A diesel, passengers, a hitch, tools and accessories all belong in the finished-truck load calculation. The Ram sticker’s 5,007 kg GVWR is not its payload allowance. It is not a figure to put in the bed, nor does it tell us the permissible tongue or pin load. The exact truck’s loading label, axle limits and towing documentation still matter.
Likewise, the F-250 name and Tremor equipment do not assign a towing rating to the proposed Ford. No range-wide maximum from either manufacturer’s headline is presented as the capability of these selected trucks. A heavy trailer may change which configuration—or duty class—you should be shopping before it changes which off-road package you prefer.
Make a realistic list of everything carried, including the people who travel with you and equipment added after delivery. Then have the selected combination checked against all applicable limits, not only one attractive headline figure. An off-road accessory is still cargo or added equipment when it is attached to the truck.
The Ram example has separately optioned fifth-wheel/gooseneck preparation and a trailer brake controller in its build sheet. Ford lists a brake controller on XLT. Preparation is not a complete hitch installation or proof that a particular trailer is suitable; identify the hitch, its approval and the completed truck’s documentation before committing. Ram build sheet, Ford XLT equipment.
Cab and cargo: work out how your equipment will travel
Both selected trucks use a Crew Cab and the shorter of their relevant pickup-box choices. The Ram build sheet calls its box a six-foot cargo box; this comparison does not turn that shorthand into an independently verified interior measurement. Ford’s target is the 6¾-foot box. If a particular machine, pallet or recreational vehicle must fit with the tailgate closed, measure the usable space and tie-down arrangement rather than relying on the category name.
The Ram build sheet specifies a folding rear seat and manually adjusted front seats; Ford lists a split rear bench for Crew Cab and a power-adjustable driver seat on XLT. These are more useful differences for daily work than an unsupported claim that one cab is universally roomier. Bring the items normally kept inside—child seats, boots, laptop case or lockable equipment—and try the actual layout.
One detail in the Ram listing deserves restraint: it contains both a rear-underseat-compartment reference and a “no underseat storage” entry. This article does not resolve that contradictory coding by inventing a storage feature. Inspect the actual truck if concealed storage is important.
The optioned Ram has the larger screen—not every Warlock
Tradesman Level 1 equips this Ram with a 12-inch Uconnect navigation screen, dual-zone automatic climate control, a sliding rear window and front/rear parking assistance. These are fitted options on this example, not automatic benefits of choosing Warlock. The standard-equipment column’s smaller display is superseded by the optioned system. Exact Ram equipment.
Ford’s XLT baseline uses an 8-inch SYNC 4 display and manual climate control; its larger screen and 360-degree camera are optional. The power driver seat may matter more to someone making frequent adjustments than display size, while a household sharing the cab may place greater value on the Ram’s dual-zone climate system. Compare completed equipment lists, not the best feature shown in each manufacturer’s gallery. Ford XLT interior.
Try phone connection, navigation, reversing views and commonly used controls while parked. Confirm any subscription terms for connected services separately. Neither a screen measurement nor a list of apps establishes faster response, better usability with gloves, or reliable reception at a remote worksite.
Road assistance is not the same as trail assistance
The Ram sticker lists adaptive cruise with stop, forward-collision warning and pedestrian/cyclist emergency braking. Ford’s XLT list includes automatic emergency braking, while blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage is optional. Do not assume the proposed XLT includes every assistance feature available higher in the range.
Parking sensors, a rear camera and a trailer-related camera system also do different jobs. Check coverage with the actual load and trailer, and read the operating restrictions. No crash-test superiority or winter-braking winner is claimed for either exact configuration. Off-road systems should not distract from the road visibility and assistance equipment you use much more often.
Fuel, maintenance and warranty: budget for the actual job
The Ram’s Canadian sticker explicitly identifies this as a heavy-duty vehicle without applicable consumption ratings. No comparable verified fuel-economy result for these exact two builds is offered here, so there is no invented L/100 km advantage, annual saving or tank-range claim.
Ask for an ownership plan that reflects your use: towing frequency, short trips, cold starts, idling and distance from service. Have the relevant maintenance schedule explained, including diesel-related service requirements and what changes under demanding operating conditions. Get service and replacement-tire estimates for the specified truck rather than assuming all diesel pickups cost the same to maintain.
Ram’s 2027 Canadian material states basic coverage of three years/60,000 km, powertrain coverage of five years/100,000 km, and a separate Cummins engine warranty of five years/160,000 km, each subject to its terms and the applicable first limit reached. Certain commercial uses are excluded from the stated general powertrain coverage. A longer promotion attached to another model year should not be carried over to this 2027 truck. A matching 2027 Canadian retail Ford warranty document was not independently verified for this exact order specification. Obtain it before treating warranty as a deciding advantage. Ford Pro’s published fleet extension has eligibility and original-sale requirements; it is not a blanket promise to every retail buyer. Compare covered components, exclusions and roadside assistance as well as headline time and distance. Ford Pro warranty conditions.
Canadian pricing and configuration
At the time of writing, October 31, 2026, a reproducible current Canadian manufacturer-configurator total was not verified for both of these exact diesel/off-road configurations. Numeric purchase prices and a price winner are therefore omitted. The Ram factory sticker establishes installed equipment; its printed amount is not substituted for a current manufacturer-website price.
Use the Ram Canadian configurator and Ford Canadian configurator to match year, cab, box, drivetrain, engine and packages. Record the province and date, and distinguish MSRP, freight, taxes and any conditional incentives. A promoted Big Horn or a gas-powered base XLT is not the selected vehicle.
Separate essential work equipment from route-specific hardware and cabin preferences. That makes it possible to see what the Tremor hardware adds to your own chosen Ford, or what Tradesman Level 1 contributes to the Ram, without pretending these two option lists are identical. The vehicle quote and total-cost guide helps keep that exercise organized.
Which one belongs on your shortlist?
Start with the Warlock if your use centres on work, towing within the approved limits and occasional rough access, and its verified traction package addresses those needs. This particular example also offers a well-equipped screen-and-climate combination. That is not proof it is cheaper, more comfortable or equally capable on every trail.
Put the XLT Tremor first if the factory lift, locking rear axle, front limited-slip differential and low-speed off-road systems address recurring obstacles. Its additional published engine output is another clear specification difference. Be prepared to evaluate entry height, tire replacement and any convenience options separately rather than assuming the off-road package supplies a premium cabin.
Choose neither configuration yet if your loaded-trailer requirements, parking clearance or exact equipment remain unresolved. The strongest purchase is the truck that fits the whole week—not just the route that makes the best photograph. Confirm the load case first, demonstrate the equipment second, and compare like-for-like manufacturer pricing when both builds can be reproduced.
