2027 Ram Power Wagon vs 2027 Ford F-250 XLT Tremor: Canadian Gas Off-Road Truck Comparison

The 2027 Ram 2500 Power Wagon and Ford F-250 Tremor are not simply work trucks with off-road decals. Their hardware differs in ways that matter when a trail becomes uneven or traction is limited. For a Canadian buyer, the useful comparison starts with the exact package and ends with whether the loaded truck still meets the job.

Here the Ram is a 2027 Power Wagon Crew Cab 4×4 with the 6.4-litre gas engine. The Ford is a 2027 F-250 XLT Crew Cab 4×4 with the 7.3-litre gas engine and Tremor Off-Road Package. Tremor is a package, not a standalone trim. The shorter-bed configurations are the focus; the manufacturers’ box lengths are not identical. This is specification-based analysis, not a trail-test verdict.

The hardware difference: front locker versus front limited-slip

A Canadian manufacturer sticker verifies the Power Wagon Off-Road Group with raised ride height, 4.10 axle ratio, Tru-Lok front and rear axles, Articulink front suspension and a disconnecting front stabilizer bar. It specifies LT285/70R17D all-terrain tyres and 17-inch wheels. Its 6.4-litre HEMI uses an eight-speed automatic. FCA Canada’s 2027 Power Wagon sticker.

Ford’s Canadian 2027 Tremor announcement specifies a rear electronic locker and front limited-slip differential, 35-inch LT285/75R18 Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tyres, factory-lifted Tremor suspension, skid plates, Trail Control, Trail Turn Assist and Rock Crawl mode. These are Tremor features, not permission to label every Ford 35-inch tyre package a Tremor. Ford Canada’s 2027 Super Duty update.

The distinction is useful: a front limited-slip differential is not the same specification as a selectable front locking axle. The Ram also explicitly supplies a disconnecting stabilizer bar. Ford’s listed trail-speed and turn-assistance functions address a different set of manoeuvres. Those facts give you questions to investigate; they do not establish that one truck will clear every obstacle the other cannot.

Learn the operating conditions and restrictions for each system from the correct owner’s manual. Ask for a demonstration in an appropriate environment rather than experimenting in traffic or on a surface where a drivetrain setting is unsuitable. Neither a locking axle nor electronic assistance replaces route planning and judgement.

Bigger tyres are only one part of trail fit

The Ford’s nominal 35-inch tyres are a clear specification difference, but tyre diameter alone is not a complete off-road ranking. Wheelbase, overhangs, load, tyre construction and the actual trail all matter. A full-size heavy-duty pickup may be limited by width or turning room long before it needs more engine output.

Check your usual access roads, gates, parking areas and storage space before choosing a package. If an uneven track is the real use case, distinguish it from technical rock crawling or deep mud. Buying hardware for a situation you never encounter can increase cost without improving the daily work that justified the truck.

Cabin specification still matters

The documented Power Wagon standard column includes heated front seats and steering wheel, a power driver’s seat, 12-inch centre and instrument displays, adaptive cruise and blind-spot monitoring. The same sticker has optional equipment above that baseline; it must not be treated as proof that every Power Wagon includes every feature on the photographed truck.

The XLT starts with a power driver’s seat, an 8-inch centre display and trailer brake controller; heated front seats and larger-screen/camera equipment require option checking. Build the XLT to your actual cabin requirements before comparing offers. A premium-trim Tremor advertisement is not the price or equipment of an XLT Tremor. Ford Canada’s 2027 XLT specifications.

Do not assume a winch is included

No winch is assigned to the Power Wagon configuration in this comparison: the verified Canadian sticker does not establish one. That is not a claim that a winch is unavailable. Ask for the exact order code, fitment, rating and installation details if recovery equipment is part of your plan.

The same approach applies to the Ford and to other recovery accessories. Confirm what is supplied, what is optional and what adds weight to the truck. Do not infer equipment from a grille photograph, an older model year or the reputation of a trim name.

A towing decision needs the off-road truck’s own ratings

Ram Canada confirms a diesel option for the 2027 Power Wagon, but this article deliberately compares gas with gas. The 2027 6.4-litre is listed at 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft; Ford’s 7.3-litre is rated at 420 horsepower and 445 lb-ft with a ten-speed automatic. Do not apply diesel towing claims to these engines. Ram Canada capability; Ford Canada XLT.

More importantly, do not apply a basic work truck’s maximum payload to an off-road build. Obtain the proposed truck’s ratings and loading-label information, then account for occupants, camping equipment, accessories, hitch hardware and trailer tongue or pin load. Confirm axle and hitch limits as well. If the combination does not leave adequate capacity, a different configuration is needed—not a more optimistic interpretation of the brochure.

Which should you investigate first?

Start with the Power Wagon if the explicitly documented front/rear locking hardware and disconnecting stabilizer are central to your use. Start with the XLT Tremor if its tyre package and trail-control features align with the terrain you encounter and its cabin can be configured within budget.

Neither gets an automatic win. Price the complete build, confirm its load limits and evaluate whether its size and equipment suit the actual route. For a truck that must work during the week and travel off pavement on weekends, that is more valuable than a generic ‘most capable’ label.

For Power Wagon and XLT Tremor, include the off-road package and required towing equipment in the same completed purchase comparison. Our guide to comparing complete vehicle quotes can help organize that comparison.
