2026 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate PHEV vs 2026 Kia Sportage PHEV SX: Cabin Features and Everyday Value

The Canadian 2026 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate Plug-in Hybrid AWD and 2026 Kia Sportage PHEV SX AWD both offer 268 hp, but their cabins give buyers different reasons to choose them. The Tucson pairs leather seating with Bose audio; the Sportage SX uses quilted synthetic upholstery and a Harman Kardon system. Start with the seating and controls you prefer, then compare the complete cost of the equipment you want. This is a specification-based comparison, not a back-to-back driving review.

What is genuinely similar?

Hyundai’s Ultimate PHEV uses a 268-hp 1.6-litre turbo plug-in hybrid system, six-speed automatic and AWD. Its equipment includes leather seating, ventilated fronts, heated rear seats, panoramic roof, Bose audio, head-up display and surround-view camera. Hyundai Canada 2026 brochure.

Kia’s Sportage PHEV also lists 268 hp, a six-speed automatic and AWD. SX includes quilted synthetic upholstery, air-cooled front seats, heated rear seats, panoramic roof, Harman Kardon audio, head-up display and surround-view camera. Both selected models are plug-ins; regular-hybrid or gas trim figures should not be mixed into the comparison. Kia Canada 2026 PHEV brochure.

Those similarities are a reason to narrow your questions, not declare the vehicles identical. Shared output numbers do not prove identical acceleration, ride, noise or control calibration. Those require a test drive under similar conditions.

Two kilometres of rated range should not choose the car

NRCan lists Tucson PHEV at 51 km electric range and Sportage PHEV at 53 km. Their gasoline combined ratings are 6.7 and 6.6 L/100 km respectively. The energy-equivalent figures are 3.1 and 2.8 Le/100 km; Le is not literal gasoline consumption. NRCan 2026 plug-in-hybrid tables.

The two-kilometre rated-range difference is too small to treat as a guarantee that one will complete your commute electrically and the other will not. Weather, cabin heating, speed and operating conditions can outweigh that gap. Plan a winter buffer and confirm your charging routine instead of building the decision around the last rated kilometre.

The gasoline combined gap is only 0.1 L/100 km: 10 litres over an illustrative 10,000 km driven at those gasoline-mode ratings. At an assumed $1.60 per litre, that is $16. Actual total cost also depends on electric travel, tariffs and charging losses. A meaningful quote, insurance or tire-cost difference can easily be more important.

The useful differences are inside

Try the Tucson’s leather and the Kia’s quilted synthetic upholstery rather than assuming the material name alone establishes comfort or durability. Sit for more than a quick showroom minute, adjust the lumbar support and have rear passengers assess their own space. Test the sound systems with the same familiar recording at a similar volume; a brand badge is not an audio verdict.

Kia lists Highway Driving Assist 2 on SX; Hyundai lists Highway Driving Assist on Ultimate. These equipment names are not proof of a safety ranking or autonomous operation. Have each system’s functions, road requirements and limitations demonstrated and read the corresponding owner’s documentation. Kia assistance equipment; Hyundai assistance equipment.

While parked, connect your phone, change a destination, adjust the climate and try the parking views. Count the steps for functions you use daily. Check screen glare and reach from your normal driving position. These small usability differences will recur much more often than a showroom comparison of maximum horsepower.

Charging, cargo and towing checks

Confirm the exact charging equipment supplied, the connection you will use and the installation cost if home electrical work is needed. Have the dealer demonstrate charging schedules. Do not compare charge times unless the power supply and battery starting and ending levels match.

Both list towing up to 2,000 lb, subject to equipment and loading conditions. The gas Tucson’s higher rating is not applicable to this PHEV. Hyundai powertrain-specific towing information; Kia towing specification.

Verify payload, tongue weight, hardware and trailer-brake requirements for your loaded trip. Bring your actual stroller or luggage and set both cargo floors and rear seats as you would use them; published volumes can depend on floor position and measurement method. A nominal litre advantage should not replace a loading test.

The verdict: let the useful details and quote decide

Choose Tucson Ultimate PHEV if its seating material, control layout and actual deal suit you better. Choose Sportage PHEV SX if its cabin treatment and equipment are more useful to you at the quoted price. Compare taxes, fees, accessories, finance terms and charging costs on the same basis before signing.
