The 2023 Audi Q5 Progressiv sits between Komfort and Technik in the Canadian range. It pairs the stronger 45 TFSI powertrain with useful cabin technology, making the decision less about chasing the highest badge and more about which features you will actually use. S line appearance packages are a separate choice from the Progressiv equipment grade.

Engine and quattro AWD
The Canadian gasoline Progressiv uses a 261-hp 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and quattro all-wheel drive. Komfort also offers a lower-output 201-hp 40 TFSI configuration. The 45 TFSI is standard for Progressiv and Technik, according to Audi Blainville’s Canadian 2023 equipment overview.
Cabin and technology
Leather seating, heated front seats and three-zone climate control are part of the Canadian Q5 equipment offering. Progressiv adds navigation and a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit. Its instrument display is separate from the 10.1-inch central MMI touchscreen.
That makes Progressiv worth comparing with Komfort if navigation and the digital instrument layout are high on your list. If your priority is the powertrain rather than those features, a Komfort 45 TFSI offers a useful alternative to examine.
What does S line mean?
S line Sport and S line Black are appearance/equipment package choices, not another name for the SQ5. Compare the original equipment list when shopping two S line cars: the badge by itself does not establish an identical set of seats, wheels or options. The video above shows the Progressiv S line review; the comparison below covers the underlying Canadian Q5 grades before optional packages.
Fuel economy
Natural Resources Canada lists the 2023 Q5 45 TFSI quattro at 10.6 L/100 km city, 8.2 highway and 9.5 combined. At 20,000 km a year, the combined rating corresponds to roughly 1,900 litres. Actual consumption depends on conditions and use. NRCan fuel-consumption ratings.
Canadian trim comparison
The following historical 2023 Canadian base MSRPs are listed by Unhaggle, checked October 29, 2026. They apply to the conventional Q5 body, not Sportback, and exclude freight/PDI, taxes, licensing and options. They are a new-vehicle trim comparison—not current used prices or the original total for the car in the video.
| 2023 Q5 configuration | Base MSRP (CAD) | Difference versus Progressiv | Reason to compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Komfort 40 TFSI | $48,400 | −$8,600 | 201-hp entry powertrain; lower purchase-price starting point. |
| Komfort 45 TFSI | $51,100 | −$5,900 | 261-hp powertrain without the Progressiv equipment step. |
| Progressiv 45 TFSI | $57,000 | Reference | Navigation and 12.3-inch virtual cockpit. |
| Technik 45 TFSI | $61,400 | +$4,400 | Heated rear seats and top-view camera among the upgrades. |
The $5,900 step from Komfort 45 to Progressiv buys equipment rather than the move to the 261-hp engine, since both already have that powertrain. The $4,400 step from Progressiv to Technik is worth weighing if rear-seat heating and the top-view camera matter to you. Confirm the equipment on any used example, including options that may narrow the gap between grades.
S line package costs sit outside these base prices. Decide on the comfort and technology features first, then compare appearance packages and wheels. A higher original MSRP does not guarantee a better-value used purchase when mileage, service history and condition differ.
Practicality and daily use
Check the conventional Q5’s rear-seat access and cargo opening with your usual passengers and luggage rather than borrowing measurements from a Sportback listing. Try the seat support and control layout, and pair your phone with MMI. If you depend on connected services, establish which functions require a subscription and whether any trial remains.
Which version makes sense?
Progressiv is the natural comparison point for buyers who want the 45 TFSI powertrain plus navigation and the virtual cockpit without automatically moving to Technik. Komfort 45 deserves a look if those cabin upgrades are less important; Technik merits the extra comparison if its passenger-comfort and camera features are priorities.
For any used Q5, put maintenance history, an independent inspection and VIN-specific recall checks ahead of the package name. Include tires, brakes, keys and insurance in the ownership budget, then compare the total price of vehicles with genuinely similar equipment.
