The 2024 Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition combines the turbocharged CX-50 powertrain with a different wheel-and-tire package and distinctive exterior details. In Canada, it builds on GT Turbo equipment rather than replacing the premium cabin with a stripped-down off-road interior.
Watch our 2024 Mazda CX-50 Meridian video below. This guide covers Canadian specifications, equipment choices and buying considerations. The comparison below separates the standard Meridian equipment from the optional Apex Package.

Models available
The Canadian lineup includes GS-L, GT, GT Turbo and Meridian Edition. The first two use the naturally aspirated engine; Meridian shares the turbocharged engine with GT Turbo. All have all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic. Mazda Canada 2024 specification guide.
That makes GT Turbo the most useful starting point for deciding whether Meridian is worth the extra money. Comparing only with GS-L combines an engine upgrade, a cabin upgrade and the Meridian-specific changes into one price gap.
Engine and fuel
The 2.5-litre turbo produces 256 hp and 320 lb-ft on 93-octane gasoline, or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on 87-octane. Those ratings describe different fuels in the same engine—not separate Meridian engine choices. Mazda Canada powertrain announcement.
For an ownership budget, use the fuel grade you actually intend to buy. Do not combine the premium-fuel output with a regular-fuel cost estimate and present it as one guaranteed result.
Fuel economy and towing
The Canadian turbo specification lists 10.4 L/100 km city, 8.2 highway and 9.4 combined. Its towing limit is 3,500 lb (1,588 kg), compared with 2,000 lb for the non-turbo. Canadian consumption and towing specifications. Fuel economy is a standardized reference; actual use varies.
At 20,000 km annually, the published combined figure corresponds to about 1,880 litres. Your own mix of short trips, winter use and loads can change that calculation. Before towing, check the exact vehicle’s equipment, permitted loading and towing instructions rather than treating the advertised maximum as an unconditional allowance.
What makes Meridian different?
Meridian replaces GT Turbo’s 20-inch wheel setup with black-finish 18-inch wheels and all-terrain tires. Hood graphics, side rocker trim and Terracotta leather are part of its identity. The optional Apex Package adds black roof crossbars, a roof platform and splash guards; it is not included merely because the vehicle carries a Meridian badge. Meridian and Apex equipment.
Think of this as a choice between two versions of the same turbo CX-50, not a new engine or a completely different vehicle. Inspect tire condition and replacement costs on a used example. A roof platform also needs to be considered together with the load it will carry and the applicable roof and accessory limits.
Interior and technology
The Canadian equipment walk places Meridian above GT Turbo, retaining features such as ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, Bose audio, a head-up display and the 360-degree camera. The centre screen is 10.25 inches, with touch operation described for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Canadian equipment walk.
Practicality
There are five seats. Mazda lists 889 litres behind the rear seat and 1,595 litres with the rear seats folded. Seating and cargo specifications.
