The 2025 Toyota Camry SE puts the redesigned Camry’s hybrid powertrain at the entry point of the Canadian range. The useful buying question is how much extra equipment you need beyond SE, rather than whether you should pay more just to get the hybrid.

Models available
The Canadian lineup is SE FWD, SE Upgrade FWD, SE Upgrade AWD, XSE AWD and XLE AWD. All are hybrids. Toyota Canada’s 2025 introduction.
Engine and hybrid system
A 2.5L four-cylinder works with the hybrid system and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Combined output is 225 horsepower for FWD and 232 for AWD. Those are system ratings, not figures to add to the gasoline engine’s separate output. Toyota’s Canadian product information.
Do not choose between these versions solely on the seven-horsepower difference. The more useful questions are whether you want AWD, what equipment comes with the chosen package and what the complete price difference looks like. A test drive remains the right way to assess how the hybrid responds on your normal routes.
SE equipment and everyday controls
Standard SE includes an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. SE Upgrade adds 18-inch wheels, a moonroof and smart entry. Canadian grade equipment.
Before paying for the upgrade, try the basic cabin with your phone, usual seating position and everyday items. Check whether the screen is easy to read, the phone fits where you want to keep it and the controls you use most are convenient. A larger specification list is not necessarily a better match if the base equipment already covers your routine.
Space and practicality
A sedan should be judged with the items you actually carry. Bring your larger bags and check the trunk opening, not just the space beyond it. If you use a child seat, install it behind the normal front-seat position and check entry, exit and available legroom. Those checks help distinguish a comfortable-looking cabin from one that works for your household.
Consider the trade-off against a crossover before moving up in vehicle size. If bulky cargo and easier loading are occasional needs rather than everyday requirements, a sedan may still suit the job. Conversely, do not overlook a difficult loading task simply because a fuel-consumption figure is attractive.
Fuel consumption
| 2025 NRCan configuration | City | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Camry FWD | 4.9 | 4.9 | 4.9 |
| Camry AWD SE/XLE | 5.1 | 5.1 | 5.1 |
| Camry AWD XSE | 5.3 | 5.5 | 5.3 |
All figures are L/100 km from NRCan’s 2025 dataset, standardized laboratory ratings. The FWD rating does not apply to AWD models. Match the rating to the drivetrain and trim.
At 20,000 km a year, 4.9 L/100 km works out to about 980 litres, while 5.1 works out to about 1,020 litres. That 40-litre difference is a comparison calculation, not a promise of a particular owner’s annual consumption. Winter, trip length and driving conditions can change the outcome.
Canadian trim comparison and pricing
Current Canadian manufacturer pricing for these exact 2025 configurations has not been verified as of October 31, 2026. Vehicle prices and price differences are therefore omitted; the chart compares equipment only.
| Configuration | Main upgrade |
|---|---|
| SE FWD | Hybrid entry point |
| SE Upgrade FWD | Moonroof, wheels and smart entry |
| SE Upgrade AWD | Upgrade equipment plus AWD |
| XSE AWD | Ventilated front seats and upgraded displays, with sport-oriented styling |
| XLE AWD | Ventilated front seats, upgraded displays and driver-seat memory |
Compare SE Upgrade FWD with SE Upgrade AWD to isolate the drivetrain choice. Moving from base SE to SE Upgrade AWD also changes equipment, so it is not an AWD-only comparison. XSE and XLE add ventilated front seats and upgraded displays; XLE also brings driver-seat memory.
Competition and buying verdict
Compare the Camry with an appropriately equipped Honda Accord Hybrid or Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, where available, using actual local quotes rather than headline prices from different markets. SE is the sensible starting point if your priority is the hybrid powertrain and everyday essentials. Move higher only when the added equipment solves a need you have identified.
For a used example, maintenance records, condition, tires and the exact equipment list matter alongside trim. Ask for the original specification or window sticker and compare it with the vehicle. Do not assume that a short listing title establishes its drivetrain or every factory option.
Check the VIN for outstanding recalls. Recall 2026383 affects certain 2025–2026 Camrys with a 7-inch instrument display: a software fault can blank the cluster and disable turn signals or hazard lights; the remedy is a software update. Recall 2025693 addresses an inverter bolt on certain 2025–2026 Camry hybrids, with possible loss of drive power or fire risk; dealers inspect and tighten the bolt or replace the inverter as needed. Ask Toyota to confirm applicability and completed repairs for the individual VIN. These examples are not a complete recall list.
